25 more stores will be remodeled in 2018

I thought this topic deserved its own thread.

I just heard on the 1st Quarter conference call that 25 locations will be remodeled in between now and the first quarter of 2019. They didn't mention where the locations would be but I believe they will be "spread out" in different markets.

Stores will be staying open during the remodeling process.

So, you just might find your local CEC changing sometime in the next year. :)

I can't wait until the ancient stores that still have the Phase 3 elements (!) are finally remodeled! They look so dated and tired.
wow way to speak for almost nobody in the fandom

can you please stop?
So what if his viewpoints don't represent everyone in the fandom? He has every right to have his own opinion. It's perfectly fine to disagree with his opinions, but just because his viewpoints greatly contrast with your own doesn't give him any right to be silenced in any manner. He views this situation from a business aspect, which is perfectly fine. You view it from a fanboy aspect, which is perfectly fine. This website's a forum, a place to discuss news and other topics revolving around a main subject. A good discussion usually involves differing opinions contrasting each other, while maintaining a respectful mood. Yes, you mind find this hypocritical as I've said this website revolves around a main subject.

"Studio Stage, this is an ANIMATRONIC board, if he hates animatronics, why should he even be here!?"

This happens to be a Chuck E. Cheese subforum, a section of the site where discussion is not just limited to animatronics. Other company news and information can be discussed.

Anyway, my own stance on the 2.0 remodels, is I'm at least kind of relieved they have a set amount of locations to remodel this year (Kind of takes away a little bit of the edge of never knowing what'll be remodeled, and what won't). Though I am very disappointed by the cutting back on certain 2.0 aspects. Removing the unique exterior and open kitchen (Two of the better parts of 2.0), while keeping the worst part, the animatronic removal with a dance floor just feels like the typical results of this company's experiment. They try something new and bold, but it's always too expensive, so they end up cutting down the experiment so it's cheaper, resulting in an experience far worse from the original concept. The same happened to Studio C over the span of several years, and I imagine 2.0 will very likely go down the same slope, evolving into just a cheap way to gut the show, with maybe a few decorated walls and fancier floor/booths. Pathetic, 2.0 at best had some impressive architecture to it (For CEC standards).

Guys, every store is going to get remodeled at some point- either to 2.0, or to something similar to it that they haven't fully developed yet. Stores don't stay frozen in an old design forever (even though it might seem like it). It's just a matter of time at this point. I would not be surprised to see every store remodeled withn about 5 years. Look for a lot more closings in that time period too.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that idea, history shows this company can barely sustain an idea for a good several years. Studio C is really the prime example of such a drastic change and remodel, that was meant to be represent the next generation of the company, yet here we are over 20 years later, and Rockford still has their Rocker Stage, we still have at least 150 or so full animatronic stages, and locations that haven't been remodeled in over 15-20 years. 5 years is just too short of a time, I'd give it more like a decade to see how things would go.
Well yeah but the 2.0 remodels are meant to look forward to the future long-term.

Studio C was introduced 20 years ago (!) under different management in a different era altogether. And yes, it was pretty poorly thought out with how expensive it would've been to replace everything with Studio C Alphas.

Man, I can't believe Studio C is that old already! Time flies...

Ok...so I'm gonna clear some stuff up. Yes 25 stores are being remodeled. Will they be 2.0 remodels? Yes. But they won't be quite as elaborate as the ones seen in San Antonio. Many won't get a full blown exterior remodel, or the open kitchen concepts. To those of you who thought 2.0 failed. You were VERY wrong. All 7 stores that were remodeled last year have seen very solid profits since the remodels.

You Huntsville fans don't need to worry. It's not on the list. I will give you guys three stores that are on the list: Parma, Buford, and San Bruno.
Are any of the WI locations targeted to be remodeled?
There are no plans to remodel any Wisconsin stores in 2018.

Don't forget Pasadena CA, Newark CA, and Tampa FL. I don't think any New England stores on the list. I think they'll wait until 2.0 flops. Phase 5 is now discontinued. A Garland store got the 2.0 exterior and Phase 4 interior.

I both agree and disagree. It's sad to see my childhood, aka Avenger Chuck go away entirely, but I do think it's necessary. When Avenger CEC remains in a store, it just looks dated and in all honesty, confusing. It might be the artist in me, but when I look one way and see 90's/00's wall art, then turn and see 2017 art, it just messes with my mind. Also, I speak from experience, kids don't even recognize Avenger Chuck anymore, instead asking "who's that?"

Now, for the shows going away. As much as I hate to say this, it's time for MMBB to go away. Most of the time the show isn't well maintained and overall looks dirty. I'm not saying that's the case for every stage, but when Chuck looks like a limp, broken rag doll than a live character *cough cough* Tallahassee *cough cough*, it's time to go.

Avenger Phase 3 isn't that bad but if we are talking tux era or Phase 2 in my book. That is a whole different story which there is still a lot left.

Garland has been put on delay for 2.0 remodels but should resume soon. They were Phase 4 for almost a decade.

Pasadena and Tampa are NOT on the list for 2018.

You guys can speculate all you want...but 2.0 isn't hitting every store that's rumored...at least not for this year.

Instead of wasting time speculating about what store will be remodeled when, why not go and enjoy your favorite CEC locations now as they are now while you still can? That's what I'd do. :)

I think CEC is in trouble. I keep reading more about a possible store closing than I do about a store opening. If they don't do something fast, it will go the way of Toys R Us

Yeah, I've noticed that too. That's really the whole reason why CEC 2.0 is being enforced, the company hasn't been doing too hot these past several years, and unless they take drastic measures (2.0), the company will probably be in trouble. If profits remained as they were since the early 2000's, we probably never would've seen Rockstar Chuck, and 2.0 would likely not be as much of a drastic change (Heck we could still be in the Phase 4 era for all I know).

Amarillo isn't a high volume store but in Houston and Dallas it's happening. Any older stores will probably be closed an relocated to a new spot like FM-1960 for an example. They opened in the 80's and corporate is looking to close older stores.

It makes sense to close older stores that were build or configured during the PTT era. A lot has changed since then. The upshot to this is they'd probably relocate to a space in a better area that will allow more room for games and more seating.

Any news about the Utah locations?
Layton seems to be the most likely to be remolded.

CEC took a break from opening stores to focus on developing the 2.0 concept as well as Peter Piper, understandably. The 2.0 remodels will come with more store openings as well over the next few years, guys. Just because CEC is removing the shows and doesn't look like it did while you were growing up does not mean they are in financial trouble

Just for the record in case anybody misinterprets that, though - I am opposed to removal of animatronics strongly, but not the 2.0 concept. 2.0 will not cause financial struggles for the company most likely.
