I thought this topic deserved its own thread. I just heard on the 1st Quarter conference call that 25 locations will be remodeled in between now and the first quarter of 2019. They didn't mention where the locations would be but I believe they will be "spread out" in different markets. Stores will be staying open during the remodeling process. So, you just might find your local CEC changing sometime in the next year.

Right. They're trying to make it more appealing to parents- the ones with the money who bring their kids. That's the entire reason behind the remodels and improving the menu. |

Single quarter results don't accurately represent a company's financial stability at all. |

There is no list for the stores that are getting 2.0 |

Well, there probably is a list but I imagine it's only being shared with certain people in the company who are not about to leak it.

Yes, if sales aren't up then they are down. |

Oh there is a list. I've seen it. But as you said, it's not public knowledge. Everybody needs to just chill and enjoy their stores and shows for as long as they can. I will let you guys know that just because a store may be on the list, it does not mean it will go through with 2.0. There are many variables. They may select a store but have to go through many different approvals from the city, county, etc and if anything happens along the way, the plans can change very quickly. I can also tell you that construction at a number of these stores has already been pushed back to the end of the year. Some were looking at already being in the process or completed with the remodel by this point and time in 2018, but like I stated earlier, things can happen in the approval process. I too love the animatronics and hate to see the shows go, but 2.0 looks great and there are many new things about It I welcome. |

2.0 (and the interesting specialty pizzas they've added in the last few years) makes me want to go to CEC and spend money on food and games and I haven't set foot in one since like 1990.

They aren't just focused on PPP and 2.0. They are also focused on closing older stores. Some of them aren't struggling but CEC doesn't see them as safe stores. There are quite a few closings this year and the ones announced publicly are only 10-20% of them. Edited by CECArizona, May 21 2018, 07:10 PM.

^ I think he means safe as in unsafe areas (fights, brawls, crime, etc). I think it's more complicated because these stores are not making a profit anymore. TBH, some of the CEC's are starting to become ghosts of their former selves. Now I do enjoy looking at the old stuff, and I thought pre-phase 4 was the best because they had a more restaurant feel. Now they look like a kiddie corner at the mall. I'm not saying get rid of the animatronics, but if they don't do something and FAST, CEC will just be another past relic (just saw on here yet another store closing...how many does that make this year alone?) |

This is surely the land of confusion.
|
I think they should give the stores a choice if they want their original show or not. The removel of the shows is really the only problem that is and others have with 2.0. Edited by PizzaCade and the CyberStars, May 22 2018, 09:34 AM.

Some of you are going to be really upset when the animatronics are gone and I hope you can get over it and still enjoy the shows (yes, on the video monitor) and games and food. Enjoy the animatronics now, but just realize that they aren't going to be there forever. Change is not a bad thing, it's just hard to accept sometimes. |

Btw Wesleyan is closing now so obviously corp is shutting down older stores. Most of them are in bad areas and the areas are very old, pre-1970’s. |

Right, but structures do wear down. You don't want to remodel a building with the idea of it sticking to that model for upwards of a decade based on an old structure, because then you'll have a nice, redone building built over and old and rotting structure, so I guess he IS right on this one. Some of the older stores are pretty small and might not be really suitable to the 2.0 / open store concept. I know of several locations where the showroom walls are still up because they have to stay up (I think for structural reasons).

Yeah, there are locations that just won't work with 2.0 My own personal example for such a case is York (Well, what wouldn't it be? It's one I've visited a multitude of times over the past 3 years ), that location still has an early 90's layout (Heck, if it was the SPP that used to be in York, then 1980's Showbiz layout). The location's showroom is about as big, if not bigger than the Gameroom, and I honestly can't imagine it getting 2.0 unless the entire store was completely remodeled (It'd save money to just relocate honestly, given it's part of a shopping complex).
