I thought this topic deserved its own thread. I just heard on the 1st Quarter conference call that 25 locations will be remodeled in between now and the first quarter of 2019. They didn't mention where the locations would be but I believe they will be "spread out" in different markets. Stores will be staying open during the remodeling process. So, you just might find your local CEC changing sometime in the next year.

There are a lot of factors involved in a decision to close a store. It's complicated and it varies from location to location. |

I know I'm in the minority here but I'm excited about these remodels. I love how they look and I think the kids love the dance floor. |

Let me give you all an honest opinion about 2.0. CEC is a dying company, they have been dying for a long time. 2.0 is just another remodel and that will never help. CEC's reputation has been squashed because of all the fights and ghetto activity they have. CEC doesn't care if they remodel ghetto stores and CEC will always be a ghetto place because of that. No one likes CEC nowadays because of their reputation. They are losing lots of buisness to competitors like Dave and Busters that are bringing concepts to attract more kids like new prize areas and other stuff that CEC has done in the past. 2.0 is legit just another remodel and all it will do is make the company go bankrupt faster. Phase 5 hasn't been around for long and they have been removing animatronics since 2012. Has that helped, no. It just wastes more money and makes them die quicker. CEC only has around 7-10 years left before they really go bankrupt. My opinion is that they should become an international-only chain because their reputation here has not hurt their reputation in international markets. If you have seen quarterly reports, international revenue is far higher than US & Canada revenue.

I wouldn't go that far with the claim that the company is going to go bankrupt. Of course their image has been tainted since it's heyday in the 2000's, but not enough for the company to be out within a decade. I wouldn't be surprised if it was gone before the 2040's, but I just don't see it going bankrupt just yet. Regardless of the worsening business since a decade ago, CECE is still a prosperous company. Plenty of stores are doing fantastic, regardless of the remodel. Yes, the remodel is another one of the company's desperate attempts to completely renew their image (Like Studio C did 20 years ago), but I won't deny it's positive impact on the stores. Cheezbat said, the stores with 2.0 have seen a positive increase in profits since the remodel, and while I don't think 2.0 will be a complete success (It'll die out quickly like Studio C Alpha did, for the same reason: Too expensive), I do find a positive impact it has on struggling stores. |

The only thing I wish they had in 2.0 was big monitors on the walls like the big one they used with the Circles Of Light stage- I really liked that element of it. |

This is surely the land of confusion.

I just wish they didn't remove the bots. On the other hand, this could bring new locations to more places! |

What the company is trying to do is appeal to parents (as we all know). Unfortunately due to the fight reputation, the "germy" reputation, and the "chaotic" reputations of CEC, parents are never going to want to take their kids to Chuck E. Cheese for their own enjoyment. Parents take their kids to Chuck E.'s to see their kids smile. Parents will never like the pizza or think the environment is clean and peachy. 2.0 accomplishes appealing to kids in many factors, but not all. There needs to be a form of entertainment other than just games. Taking out things like Skytubes removes value from the visit. The colorful environment that I think Phases 3 and 5 possess are a positive for kids. 2.0 lacks color, in a kids sense. As for the shows, Countless parents that visit my store mention how they love how our store still has the "original" animatronics they remember from when they were kids (we have a 1-stage.) Disabling things like curtains, kicking out showroom walls and brightening up the place removes the entertainment value from the stage. Not to mention that the value of the show content itself has incredibly diminished. When the company realizes that the value of the show has gone down, they fail to realize that they have done it to themselves. Why would you bring in a rockstar character in 2012 if he was barely going to play any music? The reality of the situation is that revenue is down. If you work at CEC you know about the situation with hours, and every inch of "conservatism" the company tries to use. But then, they go printing kid check flyers that go to every family on colorful glossy stock and ship it to the store with "super-fast airmail express whatever it's called", and the family throws the flyer in the trash and buys regular points. If CEC wants to survive, they need to increase the quality of their games, much like their competitor is an expert in, increase redemption quality, bring in more forms of entertainment, some of them that have to be free-of-charge, increase the entertainment value of the store, and more than anything try and control the price situation. For the past few years under Apollo the company has been totally relying on "instant gratification" and quick, momentary spikes of revenue rather than finding ways that will truly keep guests coming back time and time again. 2.0 renovations will happen in mostly larger markets, but also smaller ones, to test the viability. And some 2.0 renovations are purely visual and won't include more structural changes like the open kitchen, totally revamped exterior, etc. As a funny note, the live stages, from what I've heard from various techs that I have worked with, are constantly breaking. It's not like they're maintenance free. I found that kinda funny. |
