Laughter rang out across the formerly green hills, somehow still managing to be audible over the sound of crashing metal and squealing gears.

“Aaahahahaha! Wheeeeee!”

Another Cutter rushed past her as she twisted out of its path, barely avoiding the chainsaw-like blades. She hadn’t had this much fun in a long time! A whole pack of machines, nearly double the usual amount, and she had them all to herself. Who cared if she was quite possibly in over her head? There was no one around to care! Plus, that meant she didn’t need to share. That one time earlier, when she’d run into Mister Say-je, was fun, but fighting alongside other people really wasn’t her strong point. Mostly because the cat tended to flail about wildly while holding long, sharp, and occasionally serrated blades.

With a loud snap, her pointy count went down by one.

There was only a second to pause before another pair of machines threw themselves at her; she threw the useless handle at one and used her free hand to vault over the other. The surface was slippery, of course, and she slid across its turtle-dome going down the other side, but after weeks and months of practice, Miroir was used to how her gloves reacted on the metal. The first time she’d tried it had ruined her glove, though not the hand beneath...

Turning on her heel, she shoved the aforementioned hand into one of her many-pockets, drawing out a knife that was woefully unprepared for the job ahead. She’d only kept the darned thing for dealing with food, and it hadn’t even been much good at that. But throwing away a usable pointy went against her nature, or something. It was returned and replaced within seconds, but that was more than
enough time for the Cutters to recover, barrelling down on her again.

In spite of the situation, she kept on laughing.

The first machine was met with a heavy boot, hooking right underneath its carapace and flipping it onto its back. Its partner tore ahead, actually managing to nip the feline’s thigh before she drove her newest pointy into the weak spot just behind its camera-eye.

Normally that was the fight’s death blow, but with so many more machines to fight, Miroir knew she was just getting started.

She tugged out the knife that had just been buried in circuitry, an even wider smile spreading across her face. Half a dozen robots remained, and not all of them were as easy to beat as Cutters; suffice to say that her grin, smeared with grease and dirt and blood, wasn’t a sane one.

"Come on, robots!" She tossed the dagger in her right hand, catching it by the blade. "I'm right here~!"

((I didn't name all the machines; feel free to decide what the rest are! :3 ))

There was an another mobian in the area, although in it's case the label was somewhat debatable. Tails Doll was flying high in the air, having left Knothole during last night. The yellow robot was still unsure what to do, or where should it go, and had picked this direction to go by random, curious to see how Green Hill Zone, the very first place where Sonic had first been sighted by Eggman Empire, was in these days. It was clear that these robots were dominant here also. Whoever controlled them, had also built factories which allowed the robots to increase their numbers. But it was odd. Doctor had always intended to rule the world, and enslave everyone else. But these robots were no conquerors, they were destroyers. Doll would have given much to know, what was their long term goal. What would they do after all organic beings would be dead? Had their commander even thought that far ahead?

Doll had used this time alone to contanct the remaining bits of EggNet, and using the last few Doctor's satellites that were still functional, knew enough to realize that robots were in power everywhere on the planet. But there was also more. These robots communicated by some sort of special wavelength, that was not fully technological. Doll would never had used words like "magic", just noted that they were energy waves not yet documented by science. Much in the same way how Life-Data was. The yellow robot had to study these robots with care when it would have a chance...

Suddenly Doll's scanners noticed something happening below it. The yellow robot turned to look there, and could hear the sounds of metal being crashed, and after a moment, could also see that something was happening. This was worth investigating. The metallic fox blasted downwards, curious. Factories in the horizon had already during these few years managed to completely pollute the air around them, and the wind was blowing those fumes in here, It would not be too soon before literal acid would rain down from the sky, so Doll did not have too much time.

Atfer a moment, the yellow robot could see it clearly. Some robots, older and smaller types, were fighting against a mobian. Tails Doll thought for moment, and then scanned the area. There were more patrols nearby, but none of them were enough close to come in quickly. This would be a good chance to start studying the robots. The metallic fox flew lower and lower, until was only just above the fighters. Tails Doll analyzed the situation for moment, and then said a single command word:

"Haywire."

Miroir could probably feel it, the wave of electric energy you could feel at the edge of your skin, expanding from the yellow robot, only visible as a some sort of rippling in the air, that was very hard to notice. The effect of the "haywire wave" were rather dramatic. All remaining five robots either fell to the ground sparks and smoke coming out of them, or then just stopped moving, like they had turned themselves off.

Tails Doll just came to the ground, and then picked up first of the robots, that had a series of blades attached to it's body. The yellow robot did not waste any time, and tore open the metallic interior, studying the machinery inside. The metallic fox had not shown in any way that it had even noticed the mobian cat, and just completely ignored her, probably hoping that the feline would just go away and not bother Doll.

//No need, they all broke xD we can have more, and bigger ones that don't break so easily later on~\\

//Edit: and now when I read this again, I see this is not really the best post I have ever written...sorry about that^^\\

For a minute, she thought there was another machine to play with. Miroir hadn’t had a chance to turn her head to see where the noise of engines was coming from, but it was mechanical, and that was enough for her. Best to deal with these ones before anything else joined in!

Another few dance steps, and more shrapnel flew through the air as she sliced another Cutter. She kicked the remnants at another, delaying its approach for a few seconds so she could catch a breath. The excitement of the fight was electric, dancing over her skin like lightning...

But then the shocks up another notch, and the cat paused. The static in the air wasn’t just from fighting: there was something else going on. An instinct made her look up, towards the sound of blazing engines, only to be met with what looked like another Mobian wrapped in a heat bubble. That kind of distraction would have likely gotten her killed, if the machines she was fighting hadn’t suddenly started sparking as the wave expanded. It swallowed all of them, leaving the robots sparking and broken, and Miroir feeling like she’d just been rubbed against a shag carpet.

The strange thing in the sky descended, landing even smoother than a bird. Without bothering to address her, it picked up one of the broken machines and tore into it, revealing the circuitry and other robot-guts. The behaviour confused her for a few moments, but being as irrepressible as always, the cat couldn’t stay quiet for long.

“You broke my robots!”

It was an exclamation of surprise, with just a touch of grumpiness. She’d been playing with them first! There were even more than normal, and that was more fun than normal, even if she’d already broken three of her spare pointies. The situation could have quickly turned if the rogue machine hadn’t shown up, but all Miroir could think of was how this thing had brought an early end to her fun.

Further inspection of the ‘thing’ in question only added to her bewilderment. At first, it looked like a fellow Mobian, but even though it had the shape of one, that wasn’t a coating of fur on its body.

“... Hey, you’re a robot too!” It was obvious that the gears in Miroir’s head were slowly turning. “How come you broke the other robots? I thought robots smashed people, not other robots...”

Further logical conclusions would follow, but for now, astonishment was drowning out most of her brain power.

((No worries! I like it! infysmile.gif ))

Doll actually stopped it's inspection of the Horde drone for moment, when the mobian cat said her first words, and then just continued dismantling the small robot, analyzing each part of the intricate machinery one at the time.

When the feline continued, the yellow robot did not stop it's work anymore, but still listened each word with care. Great, an another demented and probably mentally unstable female mobian. And this case seemed to be even more prone to illogical behavior than the purple hedgehog had been. Well, it seemed that this particular mobian was not too bright, so it was best not to use too many words in a same sentence, otherwise it would just get confused. The metallic fox mentally sighed, and then started speak in it's robotic voice, close to mobian but not quite, that had an eerie tone in it.

"I'm a different kind of robot."

Doll had already learned enough about organics to know that curiousity was their most common trait. The yellow robot had noticed the cybernetic parts in cat's limbs, Doll's advanced scanners not being deceived my simple gloves, but did not pay them much attention.

The metallic claws dropped the broken pieces of the robot drone, and then picked up an another from the ground. This one was a small snake, but the most intriguing fact was the strange energy module inside of it. It was a phaser of some sort, Doctor had experimented on the technology, but never had managed to complete it's research, whoever had designed these robots, apparently had.

Doll's mind raced when it started studying the robotic snake, but not because of the intriguing design of the small drone. Doll had progressed enough, that it no longer intended to just kill any and all all mobians it met, not without a reason. But it did not want company of organics either. The cat was curious, and Doll knew what was the only thing that affected mobians more than their natural curiosity:

"More patrols are nearby, and most of them are coming here, you should leave."

The robotic fox was not sure would this work, but maybe the threat of more robots would drive the cat away. Then again, the female mobian's sense of self-preservation did not seem to be very strong, it was possible that the cat would still try to stay. Doll still had trouble understanding how a mobian mind worked, especially one that it was not linked with, so it had just to try and think logically how it could drive the cat away without killing her. It would have been easier to just turn tail jets towards the cat and burn her to crisp, but Doll was determined to learn how the subtle interaction between organics worked, and it had never chosen something because it would be easier. Also, every single mobian Doll had seen after it's reactivation had been more troublesome opponent than originally estimated, the yellow robot was more careful not to start useless fights, especially since it was not in peak efficiency.

The weird people-robot stopped for a second when she started talking, but then went back to poking at the machines it had just smashed for her. They were obviously broken, though she hadn't seen how it had done it... Was it magic? That weird bubble around it earlier? Maybe it wasn't magic, just fancy science... which was kind of the same thing, Miroir decided. Neither were things she understood, so it made sense to her, anyway.

"I'm a different kind of robot."

Her mouth formed a very nice O as both eyes grew similarly wide. On a child, it was cute; on a fully grown cat, most people would laugh. She didn't seem to notice the not-quite-right effect of Doll's voice... Or if she did, it didn't bother her. A likely effect of the mental instability.

The yellow machine tossed its previous item aside, and extracted a snake-like robot from the assorted piles of mechanical wreckage. She'd only seen a few of those before, and none lately; they were really hard to beat. Mostly because they turned invisible! Miroir didn't know that she was extremely lucky to have survived the malicious robots to this point, and it wasn't certain she would have cared even if she did.

While Doll inspected the destroyed machines, it in turn was inspected by the cat. She stared, not in a malicious or even concerned way, just watching with surprisingly silent curiosity. Since it was a completely different robot from any she'd seen before, Miroir simply wanted to look at the strange new thing that had presented itself. Firstly, it was yellow! Brightly coloured, contrasting with their dull surroundings and the steely machines she usually encountered. Second, it looked like a person, unlike most Horde 'bots, and thirdly, it talked! Since she last ran into someone out here in the dead plains, she hadn't heard any other voices but her own, and it didn't take much investigating to discover that the feline liked conversation.

She wasn't the one who broke the silence, however.

"More patrols are nearby, and most of them are coming here, you should leave."
Unfortunately for the studious robot, its statement had the opposite effect from what it had hoped for. Miroirs face actually lit up, her eyes brightening and an eager smile spreading across her dirty face.

"More robots? Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!" She threw both hands up in the air, only just remembering to keep hold of her knives in the process. Having them come down on her head would have severely impeded the fun.

"Are you going to smash those ones too, or will we share them? I can smash the ones you don't want to look at!"

Since the different robot was so interesting, she thought it might be good to offer it some things to smash too. It seemed interested in them, after all!

Doll was puzzled by the female cat's apparent lack of fear, self-preservation and understanding of the situation she was in. These drones alone had a moderate chance of terminating her, and next patrol would probably be better equipped, and would have more advanced robots in it. The feline did not seem to even find it strange that a robotic fox was talking to her, and seemed to just ignore all parts of the event which she could not understand.

When Miroir actually more or less invited the robotic fox for more "robot smashing", Doll would have blinked again if it could had. No wondering of the robot's nature or reason to be here. No questions asked about the metallic fox's appereance, just accepting the fact that it was here to destroy robots, and wanting to join in? Doll was perplexed by the mobian cat's apparent disregard on how a normal mobian would act in this situation.

There was no anger, no loathing or even fear in her face or expression at all, only curiosity and almost childhish joy of more robots coming. The yellow robot was now a bit curious, it had to admit. The feline could not had been born with this mindset, she would not be alive anymore. Cybernetics and her somewhat wandering gaze and seemingly illogical way of acting hinted at something that had regressed her mind back to more simpler level. A traumatic event of some sort? It was only a wild guess, but Doll did know that mobian mind was an intricate thing, it could do many strange things to protect itself. And who had installed those cybernetic parts in the first place?

Doll's red boot kicked an one unmoving drone away, that was also equipped with blades like the one the robot had studied first, and then picked an another drone, that was armed with a gun of some sort. The metallic fox repeated the process of tearing it's outer hull open again, while trying to think how it should react to this situation. After a moment of pondering, it decided trying to simply ask:

"What if there are more robots than you can beat? More of them you smash, more of them come, and in these open fields there is nowhere to run away from them, they will kill you sooner or later."

Doll at least wanted to see how the mobian cat would react to this question and statement after it. The metallic fox did not know still know how the team-work instict worked on organics, but it had seen it's share of physically and mentally broken mobians, and the feline did not really seem to be right in the head. Did she simply not care, or did she just believe that she could not die?

The robot was silent, but Miroir was okay with that. She knew not everyone liked talking as much as she did, and since she’d asked it a question, it was probably thinking of an answer. It was still looking at her, which was usually a sign of thinking. Maybe it wanted all the robots for itself, since it had seen them first? How exactly it knew there were others nearby was a mystery, but the cat rapidly (for her, anyway) concluded that it must have robot-detectors built into it. It was a robot too, after all!

A few moments of silence passed before the yellow robot kicked one of the Cutters away, and then picked up another machine, pulling it open as it had the previous ones. It was definitely looking at their insides... The reason why escaped her, but she wasn’t a mind reader, and rarely tried to understand the actions of others. Most people didn’t understand her own, so she reacted the same way.

Yellow-robot was still staring at the computer bits inside the gun-robot when it started talking again. Not having a mouth made it hard to know when it intended to speak; no deep breath or moving lips beforehand!

"What if there are more robots than you can beat? More of them you smash, more of them come, and in these open fields there is nowhere to run away from them, they will kill you sooner or later."

Thankfully Doll’s used simple words; otherwise the cat might have been confused simply by the amount of information to take in. Miroir made a pensive face, lips pursed as she thought about the question. What if there were more robots than she could beat? That had never happened before, though she had met big groups in the past. That was where a bunch of her scars came from! It took some time for her to formulate an answer, so there was a lengthy silence as her tail slowly swung from side to side. The robot was nice enough to talk to her, so she decided it needed to give it a good answer.

“The last time I met lots of robots, I had to run away a little.” Her face brightened as she realized that telling a story would probably help. “I ran up a hill, and it turns out the other side was all blown up! I fell into a hole, and so did a bunch of the robots, all on top of each other! They smashed themselves,” she giggled, before adding, “It’ll be even more funny if it happens again!”

Yes, that did mean she was surviving by pure luck. She didn’t seem to register the possibility of losing, much less actual death. Her body attested to numerous close calls... It was likely intentional ignorance, born from the same instinct that made her dive headfirst into danger.

Either that or she was just crazy.

Or a bit of both.

Finished with her tale, she continued smiling. Hopefully yellow-robot liked her story; she thought it answered the question quite nicely! Maybe it would tell her a story next? If it could break this many robots at once, there might be lots of stories to tell.

Posted by: Tails Doll May 12 2011, 07:55 AM
Doll was no therapist, but it seemed it was on the right track. The mobian feline was both driven to seek danger, and at the same time did not even register the possibility of death, just like a small child. Someone else would probably have felt some sympathy at this point, but the metallic fox just decided it was just yet an another testament of stupidity of organics. The cat was demented and unstable, and would most likely die very soon because of her ignorance.

During it's ponderings, the yellow robot noticed it had already studied all the robots in here, and so was out of research subjects. There robots were only simple drones, and although their technology was more advanced when compared to old badnik models, they were still just simple machines. Doll would have to get it's claws on one of the advanced models if it intended to learn anything of value from these second-rate killing machines. It had already analyzed and memorized everything interesting in them, and and made a mental note to start designing an improved phaser model when it would have some free time. But now the main question was, what would be the metallic fox's next course of action.

The yellow robot looked towards the sky, where dark coulds were coming closer. It had been so distracted by this scene and the mobian feline, that it had almost forgotten the incoming acid rain. It was too late to leave the fields anymore, so it would have to find some shelter. Doll quickly went through in it's mind all the terrain it had seen in here, and remembered there was an abandoned factory west from here. Or then it was just trap for unwary travelers and full of hiding robots, that would at least been what Doll would had done in their position, but it would be just positive for the metallic fox.

It's course set, Doll activated it's jets again and started floating in the air, and was just about to blast off when it remembered the cat was still here too. The light blue pools of light turned to look at Miroir, and then the yellow robot said before starting to fly towards the shelter:

"It will start raining soon, there should be shelter on that direction, come if you want."

The cat with her cybernetics would be good to have near if there would more robots present than Doll estimated, if nothing else then she would be useful distraction to have. But then again, if the cat was not afraid of getting killed by robots, Doll doubted she would be afraid of getting wet in the rain either even if the water could sting on skin, and walking in the open was a much faster way to get robots to come for you.

Posted by: Miroir May 16 2011, 11:39 PM
As the silence stretched on, it didn't seem that the yellow robot was going to respond in kind to her story-telling abilities. A little disappointing, but she shrugged it off; maybe it didn't tell stories. She wouldn't know, since she'd never met a machine that talked before! Conversation was more than different enough for this different robot.

Its head tilted back, and Miroir followed the glowing blue gaze towards the sky. Off in the distance, big grumpy clouds were rolling... towards them! Miroir frowned at them, as though this would be enough to force the gray mounds back the way they came, but the wind simply poofed a little in her face. She didn't have fancy detectors like Doll did, so the change in humidity and pressure was lost on her, but angry clouds usually meant rain.

She might have continued glaring, had the machine next to her activated its jets. The blast of hot air from the other direction had the cat putting up her hands to shield her eyes from bits of blowing grass and dirt, but only for a moment, until Doll had risen high enough to reduce its dust trail.

"It will start raining soon, there should be shelter on that direction, come if you want."

"RAIN?!"

The horrified face Miroir made would have caused most living Mobians to start laughing, but the emotion was real. Without a second thought, she ran off in the direction Doll was flying. If shelter was that way, then she was going there too! It made sense that the robot didn't want to stay in the rain, since it would probably rust or something... She wasn't going to rust, but rain was bad! It was all wet! And cold! And she didn't like it one bit.

Lacking both the ability to fly and the power to move as quickly as it did, Miroir quickly fell behind as the robot flew across the formerly-green hills. Her body were still organic, even if her limbs weren't, and that made her better at sprinting than running marathons. Nonetheless, she continued following the robo-shape framed against the darkening sky, even when it was some distance ahead of her. Eventually, something much larger came into view: the boxy, squat form of a building. Wow, that robot was so smart, to know where to hide! She would have been stuck holding her bag over her head, for sure.

Yellow-robot had already disappeared by the time she reached the dilapidated factory. It was clearly abandoned, so much that even Miroir came to that conclusion within moments. Finding a way in wasn't difficult, considering the state of the place, so she got inside within moments... And Doll was nowhere to be found.

"Helloooooooo?" The logical thing to do was yell loudly into the unknown! "Yellow roboooooot? Where did you gooooooo?"

"My designation is Tails Doll, call me such."

The metallic fox stepped out of the darkness, and then pressed a button in the wall. In response, a few flickering lights came on on the large hall they were in, filled with machines and assembly lines. This place was old, probably originally built by Doctor, and never re-used by Horde. Most likely the factory had been damaged too badly in the past, and there had been no use to repair it. Doll had quickly circled the main hall of the factory, and had not noticed anything dangerous, or interesting either.

The yellow robot did look at the mobian cat, since her reaction to the rain was more or less puzzling. She was not afraid of killer robots, but a mere thought of getting wet in the rain was almost intolerable? Doll could hear the sound of rain hitting the roof, and could see it from the doorway Miroir had used to get in. The metallic fox did not really have much other choice than stay here for now, so it seemed it was stuck with the feline mobian's company. Lovely.

"Who installed those cybernetic parts on your limbs?"

Doll did not have anything else to do, it decided to turn it's attention to the only thing that was remotely out of ordinary in here, namely the metallic parts of the Miroir's body. It was curious about the reaction with the rain, but did not believe the cat could even give a good answer to the metallic fox, even if she was willing to. It was possible she did not even remember, either because of her childish mind, or then because of whatever that had caused the regression of her mind.

The yellow robot had again turned it's gaze away from the cat during it's question, and was again looking at the ruined factory. It's scanners had not noticed anything unusual in here, just a few faint energy readings, probably the very few remaining working machines in here. Doll had of course thought about robots in ambush, but nothing had happened even after it had turned on the lights, so maybe that was not the case. Suddenly Doll remembered what it had forgotten to ask earlier, and started to turn back towards the mobian while asking:

"And what is your na..."

The yellow robot was luckily already half-way on it's turn towards the cat, and could see a looming figure behind her, like a tall humanoid skeleton complete with a spiked skull, scythed blades already closing in in an attack, that would cut the cat in pieces. Doll could not see the tall robot clearly even now, which probably meant it had some sort of dampening field, that is why the metallic fox had not seen it earlier with it's scans. It was also floating in the air, reason why it had not caused any noise with it's movements.

"No!"

Doll reacted before it had even time to think, and activated the haywire processor again, all it's power sent against the skeletal killing machine. The effect was immediate. The scythed blades stopped, and the robot fell to it's back like something had hit it with a frontal attack, sparks coming out of it's body. Accompanied by a loud clank, the suddenly motionless machine hit the floor.

However, then suddenly Doll either had a very un-robotic hunch, or then it saw some sort of warning in the cat's eyes if she was looking at the yellow robot, and crouched. The move probably saved Doll's head flying from it's shoulders, an identical skeletal robot had managed to sneak behind the metallic fox, and had intended to do a same kind of attack. Unfortunately, the haywire processor was still recovering, and the metallic fox could not use it again in a moment. And now this second robot was intending to slice Doll into pieces. It might not had even registered the yellow robot as an target, before the metallic fox had deactivated it's partner. Miroir had not even done anything, but she had already managed to cause trouble for Doll. Perfect.

The metallic fox cursed the life-data again, because that sudden reaction had been from it. The situation had been so sudden, that Doll's programming had not had time to think, and life-data had again momentarily taken over, and done the altruistic thing, aka saved the cat without thinking about consequences. Was it always like this if you were an organic? Doing things without thinking them through, and then regretting them later? Doll had again learned yet an another lesson from how organic mind worked, and now hoped it would not had.

//I controlled the situation a bit more than I maybe should had, but that just felt such a good scene : D also, you can control remaining reaper(s) freely, I have nothing special in mind for them.^^\\

((No problem! I like how this is going!
It usually doesn't take me a whole week to write a post. infysad.gif))

"My designation is Tails Doll, call me such."

Miroir’s expression brightened as soon as the blue eyes appeared in the darkness. She watched the machine flip the switch on the wall, lighting the room so that both of them could see better. Even robots needed lights!

“Okay,” she replied happily, clapping her hands together. “You don’t look like a dolly, though. Much more scary!”

She didn’t notice Doll observing her, being too busy staring around the abandoned factory while rain hammered the roof like bullets on tin. So many ruined robots, so many old machines, so much junk everywhere. The cat had taken refuge in a few old buildings before, but without bothering to explore much; she’d been more concerned with water, and avoiding it. As long as there was a roof over her head and reasonably dry ground beneath her feet, there’d never been much reason to explore... She usually napped until the clouds blew away.

But with the Tail-doll here, there was no need to sleep! They could talk and tell stories and explore, which was always more fun than doing nothing. Maybe she could even find more pointies, to replace the ones she’d broken! Buildings often had pointies lying around, for some reason; why the people who’d lived there before hadn’t taken them when they left, she didn’t know. Didn’t everyone need something to fight with? Maybe they didn’t use pointies... Like the Tail-doll robot, and Mister Say-je. Oh well, more for her!

Her musings were brought to a screeching halt moments later.

"Who installed those cybernetic parts on your limbs?"

She turned around to face Doll, astonishment written all over her face. But this wasn’t anywhere near her previous comical expressions; the shock was genuine, her lips slightly parted and eyes just a little wider than normal. The cat was obviously taken aback, but recovered quickly enough, returning to her usual attitude within seconds.

“Woooow, you have x-ray eyes!” Perhaps her smile was just the slightest bit smaller than before, but her voice hadn’t changed. “That’s so cool!”

There was silence for a few moments after her initial outburst as Miroir looked at her hands, slowly turning them over watching the black fabric wrinkle as she did so. She still seemed bright and perky, but the gears in her head were turning again, quite a bit faster than before.

“I don’t know who did it; I don’t remember,” she replied slowly, still considering her hidden mechanics as she spoke. “There were doctors, I think. Bad doctors. They did bad things...”

She clenched her hands around the knives she was holding before looking back to the robot, her usual smile returning in full force.

“That’s why my brain is all broked!”

Doll was still looking around, for the same reasons she’d been, maybe. Miroir didn’t mind that the glowing eyes wandered; she did the same thing, often enough. It wasn’t that she wasn’t listening, just that it was hard to keep her concentration in one place for more than a few seconds... You never knew when there would be more robots around!

"And what is your na..."

The yellow robot was only half-turned towards her when it suddenly froze, glowy eyes flicking from the cat to something behind her. Even if her mind was slow, her reflexes were pretty good, and she started turning to see what had suddenly captured her companion’s attention.

It was a robot unlike any she’d seen before. And while the thought of more machines out on the plains was fun, this was a different situation, with a much larger and more threatening machine. It was close, too close to jump out of the way-

“No!”

Miroir didn’t have a chance to see what Doll was doing, but an instant later the unmistakable hot-air-burst flew past her and collided with the robot. It was more of a blast than a bubble this time around, probably brought on by the situation’s immediacy. Just like before, it overpowered the skeletal machine in seconds, knocking it flat on its back with sparks flying everywhere.

She moved to face Tail-doll again, ready to let fly with another round of enthusiastic praise for magic-science-robot abilities, but her face fell as soon as she caught sight of some distinctly non-yellow metal standing right there. Thank goodness Doll was able to read her expression, and duck before the enormous blade lashed out!

The possibility of another bubble blast didn’t occur to the cat: even if her mind wasn’t that swift, her body was highly tuned to threats, and this was nothing if not dangerous. The yellow robot hadn’t stood up straight again before she literally jumped at the second Reaper, yowling something unintelligible. It was an impressive leap, somehow getting Miroir between the deadly scythes and onto the skull-like head. She latched onto the monster’s face and, predictably, started stabbing at it with one of her knives. The blade did no damage whatsoever, but having a living body blocking most of its visual sensors disoriented the machine.

Unable to see anything aside from fur and cloth, the extra weight was weighing down the Reaper, and its balance was compromised. It wobbled, tilting forward to reveal its back; Miroir took the opportunity to try attacking the spine and body... Which also did nothing. One might have expected that, considering the machine’s ribcage was empty, but obviously the feline attacker was a little preoccupied. She probably would have ended up in pieces within seconds, if the scythes had been built to attack objects so close to their owner; the robot instead was forced to wave its arms around as it tilted from side to side, forward and back. These movements grew faster and faster, until it finally managed spin fast enough to knock free its attacker.

“Eeeeyah!”

Miroir flew across the room, landing in a pile of mechanical debris that promptly avalanched on top of her.

Apparently satisfied, the Reaper then turned back to Doll, its scythes at the ready. One of its ominous eyes had gone black, and sparks leaped from it occasionally, but otherwise it looked entirely unharmed...

Doll did not have even time to rise up before the feline mobian had jumped over it and started doing her dramatic stunts with the skeletal machine. The yellow fox took the opportunity and dashed fowards, then turning around when had enough distance from the rapidly moving scythed robot, which tried to get off the cat on it's head. The metallic fox had also came to same conclusion, the weakness of the scythed robots was that they could not strike with their scythes everywhere. They could not slash anything directly behind them, nor could they hit anything on top of them.

Doll's mind raced also with the explanations the cat had given to it. If you took the childlish tone away from her words, it was starting to become clearer what had happened. Someone else would probably felt some sympathy, but Doll could only scorn mentally at the amateurish work that had been done to the cat. Whoever had used the cat as a test subject, had not been very good at his job. But it did not matter really how the feline had ended to her current state, only that she was in it. Doll did have a small hint of curiosity still, and decided that if the cat would not survive the fight, the yellow robot would probably dissect her corpse and study the cybernetics inside. Doll still tried to understand the complex moral system organics all knew instictively, and it could say that killing someone because of curiosity was probably against it. And as the metallic robot had decided to try and act according to those norms to see how they worked and was there any sense in them at all like Tails had said there would be, the cat would live unless there would be some pressing reason to terminate her. And what did water have to do with any of this?

The metallic fox's ponderings were interrupted when there was a scream and it's convenient distraction was hurled away, and the skeletal machine started coming towards Doll with a frightening speed. The yellow robot reacted by activating it's jets, and rising high up in the air, away from the reach of the scythed blades, near the roof of the hall. The skeletal machine could maybe hover, but it was not designed to fight against aerial targets.

Doll landed on top of the machinery, and looked at the skeletal machine below it that was now moving towards the pillars holding the room and machinery together, probably intending to cut them and take away Doll's footing. That was rather smart, the metallic fox had to admit. But, the cat had already bought Doll enough time. The yellow robot extended it's hand, and then activated the haywire processor again. This time though, Doll did not intend to destroy.

The skeletal machine started to tremble at first, and there were a few sparks coming out of it's body, but it did not shut itself off. Instead, it retracted it's blades again behind it's back, and started hovering in one place, almost docile. Doll gestured with it's fingers, and the skeletal machine followed the sudden new orders it's programming had received, and lowered itself down to the ground. Doll jumped down from the machinery, and then landed on top of it, calmly sitting on the skeletal robot's shoulders, leaning on it's head. The metallic fox ignored the sudden urge to try and start flying this thing to the sky like a plane, and then gave an another oder. The larger robot turned towards the pile of rubble, and Doll tried to look was the cat still alive.

"Danger is over. I am in control."

There was no sound but the anti-gravity engine inside the Reaper. It took several seconds before a piece of rubble tipped over and fell to the ground, its clatter echoing loudly in the mostly-empty factory.

Then, another piece. And another, and another, and several more, until a minor avalanche heralded Miroir's imminent return. It wasn't exactly graceful, considering she was covered in dirt and dust and grease and possibly some blood, but for the most part she seemed unharmed.

After wriggling from the pile, she stared up at the two machines, which had somehow gone from fighting to friends in her brief absence. Her confusion was short-lived, as it always was; she simply accepted the new development, and smiled.
"Wow!" She attempted to brush some of the new smears from her clothes, which failed miserably. "You made it friendly!"

The cat got to her feet and took a couple steps towards Doll and its new pet, before pausing, and twisting around. What followed was a rather awkward dance, before Miroir finally siezed a particuarly sharp piece of metal that had embedded itself in her back.

"Got it," she chirped, tossing the bloodied shard back into the pile it had come from.

She approached the docile Reaper the way one might approach someone's large and unfamiliar pet; slowly, with alertness and a healthy dose of respect. The thing had just thrown her across the room after trying to kill her. But, true to Doll's word, nothing bad happened. It didn't even move... aside from the up-and-down hovering. The idea of riding the machine came to mind, but she discarded the idea. There probably wasn't enough room up there for both her and Tail-Doll, and she wasn't the one who had tamed it. Finders keepers!

"... What are you going to do with it?"

Having a pet robot sounded like a lot of fun to her, but it wasn't her pet. Maybe her companion wanted to do something different with it. The yellow machine had been investigating the insides of the smashed ones outside; maybe it was going to see how this one worked too. Miroir didn't understand mechanics in the slightest, but that just meant she could watch, and maybe even learn something! Learning was fun, it helped her smash robots even more.

After the question, for a moment, the yellow robot did not know what to answer. It did not really need a pet robot, this thing was too slow and it could not fly, which meant the robotic fox had no use for it. And other than the hovering engine, it did not have anything that amazing in it.

The robot did also look curiously at the wound the mobian cat had, but as the feline seemed to not to pay the injury any attention, the metallic fox assumed it was nothing serious. The rain was still strong, so Doll had no other choice but to keep itself inside this factory for now.

"I think I will try to tinker with it a bit. I try to make it...friendly to you too."

It would be a good way to pass some more time. Doll gestured for it's new thrall, and the reaper started hovering to the edge of the wall, where there were many worktables and other machinery. This was a former facility of it's creator, so Doll knew more or less what this place had and where. This place was very old, maybe one of the first Doctor had ever built. The yellow robot half expected to find some some small critters inside badniks in here. It still could not fathom from which point of view that design had been a good idea. There were better power sources and brains for the robots than little animals connected to the machinery with nerve wires.

When they were there, Doll jumped down from the robot, and then twisted it's body some more, so it as much in laying position as it could. After that, still following it's orders, the robot shut down itself.

Tails Doll was quick to gather some tools and pieces of old robots, and just gestured for Miroir to be silent for a moment, and then started working. The yellow robot was quick to take armor layers off the machine, and then started disassembling it even more, determined to get to the bottom of this machine. It had already understood that this robot had too complicated and strong programming that it could be hacked permanently, and if Doll would leave it's immediate vicinity, the robot would probably regress back into it's old programming sooner or later. So Doll wanted to see what would happen, if it would physically start changing the robot's inner machinery. And to be honest, a reaper with an A.I of a badnik felt somewhat..amusing to Doll. It remained to be seen, how many seconds the cat could stay silent without starting to talk about something again.

"I think I will try to tinker with it a bit. I try to make it...friendly to you too."

Miroir's eyes went wide before she nodded vigorously, her puff of bangs bouncing up and down as accompaniment. How nice of the yellow robot, to make the bad one nice to her too! Wouldn't it be great if Doll could do that to all the bad machines? That would fix everything!

But that was probably impossible. If it could do that, it would have done it to all those robots outdoors too. And then made them fight, in some kind of spectacular robot death-match, where the winners would get smashed by her! Ahh, that would be so much fun...

While she'd been contemplating the joys of Battlebots, Doll had crossed the floor with its new acquisition, and was gathering the appropriate tools to do... whatever was going to be done. The cat saw the gesture meant to encourage silence, and obliged; breaking robots could be done loudly, but for poking their insides, it might be best to keep quiet!

Not that it was easy. Without something more interesting to focus on, Miroir finally sat down on the floor and started licking her scratches... the ones she could reach, anyway. Several were on her back, including the one she'd yanked a piece of metal from, and those would just have to heal up on their own. Miroir did have remarkably good luck with injuries, considering her choice of lifestyle; it was rather impressive that nothing had gotten infected, so far. But that only lasted for so long before she ran out of scrapes to clean, and that meant finding something else to do.

The decision was quickly reached that 'something else' was going to be 'stand right next to Doll'. She remained absolutely silent as she leaned over, peeking around the machine's shiny yellow head to see what was going on inside the robot-parts. Absolutely silent... just like Doll wanted!

In all honesty, Doll was very, very surprised that the female cat managed to be silent, and did not say anything even when seconds stretched into numerous minutes. The yellow robot's work was not in any way affected the fact it know had audience, so the robotic fox just kept tinkering with the reaper.

As minutes started stretching even more to dozens of them, Doll became increasingly impressed both by the cat and this robot it now had completely open on the ground, many pieces of hardware and circuits put in neatly fashion in lines. This robot was more advanced than any of the normal badniks, Doll had to give it to that. And it's main A.I core processor was somewhat strange, just like most of the robot. It was like it had been built by a mind used to an entirely different kind of of set of laws of physics than Mobius had. But machines were machines, no matter how complicated they were. It did not take long before the yellow robot started understanding the inner machinery of the reaper, at least to some extent. Only real puzzle was it's control nodes, that seemed to use some unknown method of transmitting messages. Doll had nothing even vaguely resembling it in any of it's data archives, so this was very interesting, and the metallic fox made a mental note to study the issue more in the future.

After some time, Doll suddenly started flying around the hall, collecting parts and bits it needed for the partial rebuilding it was intending to do, trusting that the cat would not mess up the dissembled robot in the meantime. It did not take long before Doll had gathered all the parts it needed, and then it came back just as quickly as it had went, and started rebuilding the reaper's head, this time using the parts of badniks. Someone else would had probably needed much more time to do something like this, but Doll's mind was that of Tail's, whose knowledge in science was almost as great as Doctor Eggman's had been. And Doll had much, much more processing power in it's mind, and it was not slowed down by tiredness, fatigue or emotions.

Finally, after a surprisingly long time, at least to itself, Doll was finished. Even the rain outside had stopped, and even though sky was still dark, it seemed that the clouds would not be raining water down on the earth for today at least, the worst part of the storm had passed. Doll closed one final hatch, and then sent a wave of haywire processor's signal radiation to the reaper, activating it. It had removed more or less every single piece of foreign technology in the robot, and had replaced that all with old badnik parts. As a result it was now just as stupid as they were, but that was not an issue to Doll.

Reaper activated and then started hovering on the ground, it's scythes moving experimentally in arcs around it. The rudimentary processing power of badnik A.I core had made the robot a bit slower and somewhat sluggish in it's movements, but it could still function. Doll looked at the reaper with a jumper badnik's brain for a moment, and then turned towards Miroir.

"I have programmed it to follow your orders, try to see what everything you can make it do."

Staying quiet was hard. So hard. So… hard… Miroir eventually gave up staring over the yellow robot’s shoulder, instead wandering off to explore the abandoned factory. She tried very hard to be quiet, though! She didn’t even touch stuff, no matter how interesting it looked, and didn’t once shout down to Doll about the cool things that were scattered everywhere. Once that got boring, the cat started running around, for lack of anything else to do. If it hadn’t still been raining, she would have gone outside too!

Thankfully, for Doll anyway, all that excitement and exercise were quite tiring. After wearing herself out, she made her way back to the general empty space where the robots were, and curled up on the floor. She was out like a light within minutes, and neither the sound of tools nor the heat and force of the tail-jets were enough to wake her.

What did was the rain. Or rather, the lack of it. As Doll completed the last adjustments on the machine’s insides, one of Miroir’s ears twitched, and summoned wakefulness and movement to the rest of its owner’s body. With a yawn and a feline stretch, the cat got to her feet, and trotted over to where the two machines were.

The modified Reaper rose, moving about with slow, experimental movements. This was a difference of night and day from before, when it had been very energetically trying to cut them both in two. Still, she stayed a few paces away, until Doll spoke.

"I have programmed it to follow your orders, try to see what everything you can make it do."

She blinked once, twice, and then a third time before turning from yellow robot to black. It certainly seemed less dangerous… would it really do stuff that she told it to?

“Ummm…” Miroir tilted her head to one side, then the other, before perking up again. “Sit, boy!”

Seeing as the Reaper lacked legs, and anything to sit on, it took a few moments before it deducted an acceptable way to follow the command without breaking itself. In the end, it lowered its hovering level until it only barely rested above the floor, before flopping down on its stomach with a loud clank. This was neither elegant nor dignified, but it was ‘sitting’.

Naturally, the cat was delighted.

“Wooooooooow!” She clapped her hands, the sound of metal on metal dampened significantly by the material of her gloves. “That’s soooo cool! You made it into a… a puppy! Roll over, robot!”

The Reaper obliged, using one claw to push itself onto its back. Performing the other half of the roll was more difficult, but it managed, after quite a bit of scraping and scratching. It would be hard to tell what Doll thought of the unorthodox exercise, but Miroir was far too excited to be paying attention to what the two-tailed machine was thinking.

Doll had expected basis orders from the cat to try her new toy out, but the yellow robot had not expected them to be quite that...basic. Well, she was demented and her mind seemed to be about as fully developed as that of a mobian child's, so maybe that was expected. And as much as the robotix fox could had wanted to deny it, the Tails inside it was right now laughing aloud. And it seemed even Horde machines were just machines after all. Thinking of something else would have been rather ridiculous anyway. One thing about which Doctor had been correct, was that there was no such thing as magic, only forces of reality that had not yet been documented by science. Everything in the universe followed a set of laws, some just had less them than others.

The yellow robot looked outside, and noted that it had stopped raining as well. It had found what it had looked for in here, so it was better to be on it's way. Not that the robotic fox would had wanted to be in the presence of this mobian for too long anyway. She was harmless, but so...impulsive. Not the type of organic Doll wanted to look for any longer it was necessary at all.

"You can keep it, it will follow your orders to the letter. The rain has stopped, so I have to continue my travelling, and despite how...enlightening being in your presence has been, I'm afraid we will part ways here."

Doll did not even wait for an answer or even a sign that the cat had acknowledged what the robot had said, and simply turned around and started walking outside. However, before the metallic boots had managed to take too many steps, the yellow robot found itself hesitating a bit. It was not anything like compassion, but the robot found itself doing the thing it did next anyway.

"There are...other organics like you in the north. Go in that direction until you reach a river, and then start following it downstream, you should be able to find the place. It is called Knothole. They might want to see your toy. They are...interesting people."

The fox pointed to the direction that was north for the cat just in the case she did not even know the directions. It was not much, she did not probably even make it outside Greenhill Zone before being killed, as she had obviously survived on pure luck alone up until now. But now she at least had a chance to make it. Doll was not sure why it had bothered to help the cat, but it did not actually lose anything in doing it either.

Well, maybe Doll just wanted Miroir be their headache as well.

So delightful was her new toy that Miroir temporarily forgot about the other mechanical presence in the room. She was too busy helping the Reaper return to its upright hovering position, which took a bit more muscle power than might have been expected; it was pretty heavy!

"You can keep it, it will follow your orders to the letter. Grey eyes found their way back to Doll, blinking as it spoke. The rain has stopped, so I have to continue my travelling, and despite how...enlightening being in your presence has been, I'm afraid we will part ways here."

There was no waiting for an answer, or even acknowledgement, before the yellow robot turned and began making its way back toward the door they had entered from, a few hours previously. Miroir was still trying to formulate an appropriate farewell, when it paused and spoke again.

"There are...other organics like you in the north. Go in that direction until you reach a river, and then start following it downstream, you should be able to find the place. It is called Knothole. They might want to see your toy. They are...interesting people."

There was a moment's pause, before the cat spoke up.

"Thanks, yellow robot!" She chirped, a wide and grateful smile on her face. With him pointing out the direction, she knew exactly where to go! She turned to her new pet Reaper, grinning up at it before adding, "say thank you, Slashy!"

Of course, the modified Reaper had no voicebox, and made no attempt to actually speak. This didn't bother Miroir in the slightest, and she turned back to call out after the departing figure.

"Bye-bye!" One arm waved in the air, regardless of the fact that Doll wasn't going to turn around. "I hope all the robots out there are as nice as you!"

They wouldn't be. But Miroir had never been bothered by facts, or reality, and so she kept this idea in mind as she waved until the nice robot disappeared from sight. Only afterwards did she finally put her arm down, and take stock of her surroundings. This might be a good place to scrounge for pointies. Tomorrow morning, she and Slashy would head off to the north! Which was... that way, right? That way! Over there!
