I must say that there are a number of elements I'm looking forwards to, when I'm actually in the mood for playing the game.[...]Like, back on the Ar nosurge thing - for me it's not a social thing, even though I tend to be active here on the forums. I won't start playing the game now, just because a lot of other people I'm chatting to online, are playing it now for instance.
That's more or less what I do with Ar nosurge right now, too. I started it, played 30 minutes as soon as I got it and never touched it again. English version, by the way. I completed the JP version. I guess I'm kinda waiting for KT to release a patch for the numerous flaws in the localization. They might do so this week, or at least give a statement about it according to their twitter account.
wizzardx

I do actually admire people who are able to pull that kind of thing off - find something that they really love, and then put in years and years and years of work into it.
Happened to me twice with MHFU and Ar tonelico. I spent around 2k hours on MHFU and probably just as long on Ar tonelico. The MH series made me create inofficial content for some of the games XD.
wizzardx

And well, I guess for the moment, I'm still pretty much neglecting some emails and forum conversations and stuff. I guess I need to apologise to a bunch of people a bit for replying to them and getting their interest, and then disappearing the next moment, leaving them hanging afterwards, when my attention goes somewhere else XD. I guess in some ways, I tend to have a very short attention or interest span in general~ gomen, ARM~ orz - but well, I guess that's just one of my little quirks that make me me - in both some good and some bad or possibly annoying ways sometimes :P.

If I've left you hanging in some topic or email thread or whatever though - feel free to remind me of it a bit later on - chances are that I've clean forgotten about it, or just - for relatively minor reason - seen that there is a reply in a given topic, but not been in the mood with following up with that topic further at that point in time, but then I might come back to it a year or so later on for a post or two, before disappearing from there for another year or so~
As someone who's waiting for that RP to continue, I wouldn't say you have to apologize for that. I make use of what people give me. No response is something I can use for another post. Then it turns out as something like "[name] is not responding/fell asleep/something else, lets do what we want without his/her consent." Poor Shun :P
Still, I agree that you should do what you enjoy most at the time. There are enough things in life that we have to do. We can at least decide what we do in our free time.

Where's the brain bleach when I need it?

Yeah, Chaos Wars is legend in the bad VA department :^^;:

wizzardx

Next time, those voice actors should try to learn a thing or two from Dr Sbaitso and Microsoft Sam - who at least acknowledge the presence of things like punctuation symbols and attempt to show some imitation of feeling every now and then…

I think the problem was more that those VA's were allegedly the staff of the company themselves as well as their friends & relatives. They had no pro VA's on the team for that game. O3 went belly up that same year that Chaos Wars was released. (2008)

wizzardx

He's my new hero in the world of voice acting~ :P

I dunno man, your VA attempt sounds better than that Animal Soccer World example to me

wizzardx

After some research, it seems like it's pronounced like this:

My Spanish is quite a bit more rusty than I thought :^^;:

wizzardx

Do at least some Drama CDs, or even the AT ones, come with English subtitles that play alongside the original voices?

Nope, there aren't any subtitles for Drama CD's, as they're entirely sound based, so subtitles can't even be added. Some of the AT drama CD's have been translated & posted on the wiki.

wizzardx

For instance the flash cosmospheres get away with only having about 4 or 5 sound effects in total I think, but they're still masterpieces~

That's true, a few good sound effects can be reused over & over again. There's no need to get carried away with it.

wizzardx

I kind of got interrupted by IRL stuff, but my idea was to in the meanwhile, improve the quality of the 1st chapter a bit - with things like SFX, while in the meanwhile in this topic, tossing around ideas for how to do the second chapter.

It would probably work a bit better if - with those charas in mind, you take a look at some other games with VN-style "paper doll" artwork/sprites, that seem to fit the characters well.

Plus, if you ever feel up to it, free to check out the free sound project and suggest anything you'd like me to use from there in one of the chapters

That sounds like a plan to me, though no promises on a speedy process with that. I'm pretty swamped with irl stuff & games at the moment.

wizzardx

Thunder - you referred to one very special scene in the JP version of Ar nosurge - did you get to see it again in your own version of the game yet?

Yep, it's a scene that I had a huge reaction to when I first saw it and I'm really looking forward to seeing it again :D But nope, I haven't gotten to it yet in the English version. I'm in the right phase now, so it isn't going to be too much longer~ :cute:

I think it'll be well worth it when you do play it. It's best not to mess with the strategy of enjoyment that works for you, I think :-3

wizzardx

Which I guess is why - to some extent - spontaneous once-off things tend to be a lot more my style, rather than sinking too much time into any one thing or another thing.

Oh, I've sunk vast amounts of time into various things, from my other hobbies to research on a particular subject to games & such, to my fics. I get to a point where I get sucked in so much, the time spent on a given thing just self perpetuates on its own. I've got 500+ hours in one game. I know I've got nearly that many hours worth of play time in AT1 as well. I can't even count how many hours I've got invested in AT related things… probably well over 2,000 hours worth. Not counting Surge Concerto. The most time I've got invested in any one particular thing/hobby is at least 20,000 hours. Of course, that interest has now become my career, which adds several thousand more hours to that total :XD: Anyhow :^^;:

Also, I meant to work on my next part for that RP, but got totally swamped this past weekend :^^;:

Hi all, and thanks for the comments, though some things I think I'd need to leave until later before addressing.

Mainly coming by at this point to say that - recently I haven't felt all that much like chatting - over email or forum or PM or IRL or whatever. I think I'm perhaps going (once again) into one of my more reclusive phases, where I have little to no interest in social things or communication and such - basically, one of those phases where I don't even lurk the forums, and take a pretty long time to reply to things like emails in general.

Not that I'm apologizing for that - this is pretty much in my general nature too, and I've found that it works out very badly to try to go against my nature or to try to force some kind of mood or way of thinking that doesn't come naturally to me at the time.

So I guess, technically I have been on, or am currently on, some kind of holiday away from ARM. Or I guess, anything involving social things or people in general.

These tends to be periods where I recharge a whole bunch (typical extreme introvert behavior), get into all other kinds of random things that I happen to feel like (well, that's normal), but basically, have almost zero interest in people or social things in general.

I do like you guys and ARM a whole lot - but I'm also not really in the mood for that kind of thing either recently~

So I think that I might (based on my recent mood over the past week or so) continue be scarce around these parts for a while, forget about people and stuff in general, and lose myself in some other random things. I guess it's also - if I actually get around to it or in a good mood for it - a good opportunity to spend a bunch of time on actually playing Ar nosurge.

Or maybe I'm just writing this now out of general exhaustion, from lack of sleep recently, and lots of work and stuff, and tomorrow or the day afterwards I'll be back here again, full of lulz and energy and randomness. It's hard to tell sometimes~

Anyhow, just thought I'd mention that I *might* be pretty inactive here (or, in any kind of social sense, IRL or online) for a while at this rate. If you do need to get hold of me, I do tend to eventually get around to emails every now and then (but probably not PMs, or most forum topics in general). And just as a reminder, Aquagon, since a while back, tends to have a hot line directly to me for anything important, even if it seems like I've totally fallen off the face of the planet.

Take care ARM, and see you around~

Hi all~

I haven't been around for like ages and ages, or chatted online in general, but I was just having a bunch of fun chatting to one of the forum members on Steam, so I felt like dropping by here.

Life's been pretty good to me - and, it feels like I have a whole new one now, since my years at the forum. Though, viewed from outside, my lifestyle is still pretty much exactly the same as before :P. Socially, I'm way more into IRL stuff these days - though, with just a very small number of close people every now and then - but that's perfect for me.

Still really loving my extensive alone time - I call it Quality Me Time, and enjoying it to bits, rather than regretting it like I once did. My birthday is coming up - and I'm looking forwards to spoiling myself for the day - well, more than I usually do. I might be able to squeeze one or two people into my schedule if they want to do something around then, too~ :P.

Working from home has also been a blast - really relaxing in general, and I get to keep weird hours or sleep in and not have to be around people if I'm not in the mood for that kind of thing on a given day :-)

Anyhow, just dropping by to give you all my regards~ I heard that there's also a Doujin project in the works - which sounds really awesome - I've seen a few works in progress, and I'm looking forwards to seeing the final bit.

And, oh yeah - I still haven't started playing Ar nosurge yet :P. Maybe one of these days, hahaha.

Take care all of you :-)

Happy Birthday, wiz! ^_^

Just a tip, you should read blackraen's Ciel nosurge summary before playing Ar nosurge. There's a ton of references and a lot of a certain aspect of the game relies heavily on the backstory provided by Ciel no.

Anyway, it's good to hear you're doing well!

Hi all :)

First of all, thanks for the birthday wishes, and also for that Ar nosurge advice. I'll keep that in mind when I finally get around to feeling like playing Ar nosurge :P (I kinda got a bit of a lifestyle burnout for a long time - so AT3 is still the last major JRPG I've played).

I was briefly over email to a staff member recently about some minor admin-related details, and then a while after that, felt like dropping by here again.

I've already left one of my signature walls-of-text around. Though, they - like my other random writings - tend to be a lot shorter these days.

Anyhow, just something else random. I re-joined an art class yesterday evening, for the first time in years, and I really enjoyed it. And I guess - for an amateur, my first pencil sketches/ink works in a very long time, weren't too bad either. Did my hand as a warm-up, and then a somewhat manga-styled selfie from a photo of myself, There's something very nice about sitting around some other - older and friendly peeps - for 2.5 hours - and just focusing on drawing and art stuff. So that's going to be a weekly thing for me, which I'm looking forwards to.

Take care all :)

Hi ARM :-)

An old friend the forums just contacted me, which I enjoyed, so I felt like dropping by again quickly to say hi. Which I just did :-)

Palsa, I work with mainly with pencil and paper and ink/fineliner (basically, kinda manga-like - black and white and some grayscale, and various cross-hatching), so I wouldn't know how to get that kind of thing onto Deviantart, other than taking a low quality photo of it :P.

Also I'm seriously out of practice - I'm only doing the art thing for a couple of hours once a week at that class at the moment - so my proportions / etc are just ... wrong... :-)

And well, as usual, life continues to treat me well.

These days I actually spend *almost no* time socially on the web - since it's become *possible* for me to be sociable in person and actually enjoy that - though my social life still needs a *lot* of work.

Which is basically one big reason why I've been scarce around these parts. Plus, all those interests - JRPGs, manga, anime, etc - I've been doing them *far* less - I spent a huge chunk of my life totally binging and overdoing those, so I also kind of went cold turkey on all of that for a long time. Though, I'm slowly starting to watch a bit of anime again here and there, and remembering how much I enjoyed it before (to the extent that I totally overdid it back then :P). Plus, a lot of that was basically escapism for me - a way of getting away from a lot of personal trouble.

I guess I'm kinda-sorta still finding what kind of balance works best in life for me, and living one day at a time.

Until next time. Take care ARM :-)

@Arcadia: Thanks for the post :-)

Hi again ARM.

Just felt like dropping by. I may be lurking around here a bit more.

Basically I got really burned out. Plus I had a number of really long-negleted IRL problems that I needed to put a lot of time and energy into.

Spent a lot of time between then and now, basically growing more as an IRL person. Almost no online chat, gaming, anime series, etc - kinda too addictive and I needed to go cold turkey for a while to find myself again.

Heard some AT music recently and felt some nostalgia. I am of course, *extremely* out of date with all the goings on in in JP entertainment and such. Going to try to avoid spoilerish (for me) topics.

Main thing I can report there is that recently I've played some visual novels off of Steam that had been officially translated. Particularly Higurashi part 1 and 2. I'm also pretty happy that Steam is now releasing a lot of linux-compatible games, as well as more translations of JP titles that can run on there. After I left Windows years back, I also left behind most of my gaming. My consoles haven't seen any use for years, either - not since my marathon AT3 session.

I've also noticed that Ren'Py - that I used before for some small fangame visual novels here on the forum (which I also totally overdid and burned out majorly on - like a lot of other things), has been used for some really good games. Currently, one of my favourite examples of that would be Fault Milestone One. The Ren'Py website mentions that over 850 games have been made with it.

Also, recently I've noticed a "Yandere Simulator" series on YouTube. Some guy is making a game where some psychopathic girl wants "senpai to notice her". The Yuna Gasai is strong in this one. Check it out sometime if you haven't already :-)

Guess that's about all I have to say here for the moment.

I've enjoyed dropping by again. Hope you've all been doing really well.

Chat later,

Wizzard.

Great to see you back Wizzard! :D
Yeah, Yandere Simulator is pretty fun, I'm working to build a new computer right now, so it should run better on that when I do.
If you like to watch Let's Play videos, AzzMan's got a great channel, and covers Yandere Simulator more than anyone.

Good to see you, wizzard! Always glad to see you stop by. I can totally understand getting burnt out on stuff. You got to focus on real life at times and just get away from everything else. It helps bring your focus back on real issues you need to deal with. So, I'm glad you're doing well and took the time to drop by. Just keep moving forward and doing what's best for you as a person. That's what matters. See you next time!

@Palsa:

Yep, Azzman's channel is also a favorite of mine :-). Haven't actually played the game myself yet, but I've really enjoyed the backstory - eg Yan-chan's backstory, and also her mom, grandmother, etc.

That character - inability to have feelings or empathy - and acting violently - or just pretending (very successfully) to be normal reminds me a *lot* of a certain character (backstory) from "Fault Milestone 1". But I don't want to ruin things with spoilers :-)

Now come to think of it, I see you around a *lot* on Steam these days. Like me you've basically added all the visual novels to your favorites list :P.

Have you played any VNs from there (preferably steambox-compatible) that you can recommend?

.....

@Arcadia: Thanks for the advice. And that's basically been what I've been doing :-). You keep well too, k?

.....

@Thunder: Haha yeah - that voiced VN chapter also really surprised a close real-life friend - someone I'd known for years by that point. Amongst other things, my ability to speak at non-supersonic speeds when I want to :-)

.....

And over here, some brief news from World of Wizzard.

My best friend's wedding was on Saturday. It was a pretty elaborate setup. She's currently on her honeymoon, but I'm looking forwards to catching up with her when she gets back from there.

In the mornings before work, I still listen a lot to the Ygdrassil Radio web stream. I think it's the kind of thing that many members from this forum would enjoy :-)

And well, I've been working from home now for a couple of years. It's been a blast. I'm a lot better with people now, but I still do my best work by myself.

Speaking of which - These days I'm really enjoying my quality me time these days. All the fun stuff and general R&R that I can do without people around.

I now actually really enjoy IRL time around close real life friends - which is actually *new* for me (basically, a medical condition that I only became aware of in the last few years prevented that for most of my life).

So now, in person, I tend to be pretty outspoken, crack jokes all the time (mostly wit or wordplapy stuff - I also have a very literal view on things that others can find entertaining). Plus I'm not above some physical comedy now and then. Jim Carrey is kind of an inspiration to me there :-).

Wizzard on the inside, who could only show up on forums and online, has basically beeb able to make a real life debut, which I've really been enjoying. Well, other people too I guess, but it's mostly for my own entertainment, or to see what reactions I can get out of people.

If I can make just one person's day just a little bit weirder than usual, then I've met my most important goal for the day.

This XKCD basically sums that up:

https://xkcd.com/325/

.....

And well, I guess that's enough for now.

Take care folks :-)

Azzman is currently my favorite let's player on YouTube, he's funny and plays a lot of RPGs and visual novels; if I ever manage to finish a game (and I'm working on a plan for one), I'd probably send him a copy.

Yandere Dev's gotten some great voice actors, Yandere-chan's voice in particular gives me chills from time to time. :^^;:

I've downloaded several VN demos, Fault Stone included, but haven't gotten around to playing them yet.
As for games that I own, eden* is really good, I played the demo and went out and bought the game, but I haven't had time to advance to where the demo ended yet.
Sakura Spirit is pretty good, but not the best VN I've played, it's basically lots of suggested humor and fan service with very little content, then again that could just be the Steam version.
Regarding demos, I've played about 20 minutes of No One But You, as a person I follow on DeviantART did the artwork, which is very beautiful.
But for some reason the graphics on Ren'py visual novels tends to shred in appearance after about 15 minutes on my PC, so I'll play more of it after I upgrade, aside from that I enjoyed what I played.
I've been getting more into Falcom's games lately, so far I've gotten pretty far in YS Origin, and started The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, both on Steam.
However, since I now have a PS3, I also bought The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, which is dominating my interest at the time, so I'm holing off on the others until my new PC is finished.
Freedom Planet is a lot of fun, it brings back memories of the Genesis and SNES era platformers, like Sonic The Hedgehog, Megaman X and Jazz Jackrabbit 2. :D
Carpe Fulgur has a lot of great Atelier-ish games on Steam, like: Fortune Summoners, Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, and Chantelise - A Tale of Two Sisters, I haven't played This Starry Midnight We Make yet, but they all have demos.
OhNoo Studio's has a couple of great games: Tormentum - Dark Sorrow, and another one that hasn't come out yet called TSIOQUE, both games are beautifully drawn animated adventures, like Monkey's Island, I've only played the demos, but highly recommend both. :)

But yeah, that is awesome, wizzard! I'm glad that you've been able to come out of your shell so to speak. While I wasn't to the level you were, I was very shy as a kid and up until a certain point in middle school. I had a very good real life friend that helped break me out of my shell and become more social. Ever since then I've been the funny one and cracking jokes. It's made it much easier for me to talk to people which is great for my job where I have to talk to people constantly almost. I'm really grateful to that friend of mine for sure. So, I'm really happy for you :)
