Hi. I'm an oldschool hardcore gamer, trying to evolve into some sort of a game developer, approaching my thirties. I do this and that. I don't use emoticons, but I'm not as cold as it may seem. I speak english and russian. I make some electronic music and program small indie games and other unrelated things for some years. I'd like to speak japanese and do nice pixel art too, but that's really too much to handle. Maybe the links in my signature and profile will introduce me better than myself. Then again... maybe not! Around 2010, my friend has shown me the XaaaCi track, and I thought it was some kind of a creepy/beautiful music genre I never knew, or was going to learn of. Then it was forgotten. Years after that, I've found out that it was a videogame OST, and couldn't resist listening to the dozens of the other tracks. Then I've learned about the Hymmnos, and discovered the whole fan-wikia. Technically, I didn't get into Ar Tonelico, because I've never actually played any of the games, except for watching the letsplays; and currently I'm not going to, because I've got just too many projects going on. But the knowledge itself is already impressive enough. I've heard too many videogame soundtracks and stories that couldn't surprise me. Those were different. I don't know of any people behind it, nor behind those fancy videos with animated lyrics on Youtube, but I presume this is some sort of a consolidated forum of english-speaking Ar Tonelico series fans. So, I'd like to thank all those relevant people. I have no idea, who, but you guys and gals (and everyone else) are awesome for what you've done, and still continue to do. How do they do this... Broadcast my deep respect over the relevant usernames, NOT killing everyone in the process! Yeah, something like that. I'm no linguist, just a fan-translator (yes, english-russian, not japanese), and I've totally skipped even the REON-4213 classes. So, what's up? |

Welcome to the forum, Xitilon~ I think finding the music without actually playing the games is not too unusual with this series. The music is just out of this world and on an entirely different level from other video games since the series itself was built around the music. So much time and effort was put into that part. But yes, lots of fans have created their own hymns and such. And lots of others have spent lots of time translating hymns and other items related to the series. The fan base is very passionate and would be very happy to know their work is appreciated by someone so thank you for the kind words

Welcome to the board Xitilon! "I'm an oldschool hardcore gamer, trying to evolve into some sort of a game developer, approaching my thirties." Same here, though I still have to get all of my hardware and software in order.

So after Xitilon poked me over PM, I realised I should probably introduce myself too and try to integrate myself with the community rather than hanging at the sidelines. Hi, I'm Temia! I'm nobody important -- heck, despite the earlier remark I don't even know Xitilon outside of here -- I'm just a programmer by hobby, albeit one who also happens to be a penguin-and-fairy-obsessed minotaur monstergirl on the internet. Most of my social time is on various IRC networks, which led to me lurking 24/7 on the old #ARM_Chat where I've come into the rare contact with oldbies who poked their heads in for a time (partly why Xitilon poked me, seeing me in there during their brief glances in). My initial exposure to the Ar tonelico series was through my brother some years back, being the recipient of some plot discussions about 2 and later getting a copy of the Hymmnos Concert tracks from him when I was visiting one day. However, I only really got into the series after playing it myself much more recently after hearing about Project Metafalica; while I've only picked up the most rudimentary knowledge of Japanese, my brother is fluently bilingual and played through the games in their native language, and he expressly warned me against playing 2 in its localised form, so hearing about a retranslation rekindled my interest enough to try the series (or at least the first two games) out. Sadly, also unlike him, I lack a modded Playstation 2, so I didn't do any bug reporting on Project Metafalica for concern that using an emulator wasn't a sufficient testing environment. I'm a stickler that way. My interest in the series is largely centred around the setting and the Hymmnos language itself. I've always loved worldbuilding for stories, and Ar Ciel has some fascinating concepts and a very interesting history despite most of it getting erased by the Sea of Death. I also like the character interaction and development that goes on in Ar tonelico 2 especially, as the setting lends itself for exploring the motivations of characters that most games would wilfully write off as archetypal. The language is nice on the ears alongside having some interesting idiosyncrasies to examine, and has turned me into a bit of a fangirl over the multitalented Akiko Shikata in the process too. So yeah, there's all of that! nice to meet you all! |

Yeah, the worldbuilding here was done very well. Lyrics and simple description you can find something new everywhere you go with a very calm peace. It's like reading a well done book with the help of a music created only for it. Welcome. |

To everyone: よろしくお願いします。 (no, I don't speak japanese, that's a copypaste) Seksalis, good point about the book with a music. I guess no one did anything like that before, with the actual book and the actual music. However, maybe it's just that we don't know of such a thing. The fact that the series itself was built around the music, is an outstanding one. Moreover, it has this technical feel to it. Frequencies, servers... Regarding the fanbase, I'd want to thank certain people personally, but none of the YouTube account names I've looked up, did correspond to any usernames I see at this board. It feels kind of awkward, and seems like a semi-serious reason to call myself lazy, Would be a lot more easier to construct another new language and craft even another out-of-this-world song, praising the Ar Tonelico fanbase, buuuut... even that isn't easy enough. Aside from the programming, I'm also very interested in building a fictional worlds and scenarios. I'm slowly creating some sorts of my own. Most possibly, I will make games with all that. Nice to meet you, Temia, too! |

Hi everyone. I'm not technically new here, but I only posted for a couple months before Ar nosurge's release before poofing. Actually, one of the main reasons I poofed was because of a big unheaval (I moved to Japan shortly after that time and that was hectic for a while), but I regret not staying in touch afterwards. I'm nearing 30, long time Gust fan, and fan of JRPGs in general. I hope I can get to know everyone better from now on, and post about the latest Gust goodness together. |

Hello, I'm a new member. Nice to meet you, everyone. I don't own any current generation game console, so I can't play any new Gust game, but I like the art and music of their games. Their art and music are good. |
