Waking up to a COMMON voice message, Lucian slowly got out of bed. Actually, he rolled out of bed and felt a cold draft. Shivering, he was much more motivated now in getting up and getting ready. While grooming for the day, he looked in the mirror, studying his new bio-implant, Mako eyelids. The teal irises were soft in their glow, apparently solar powered for the glow effect with a micro-regulator in enhancing his visual perception slightly. Or so the doctor had explained it to him again after the procedure.
Finishing up a protein bar of a breakfast, Lucian was startled and almost collapsed off his bed when Milli started video chat over COMMON.
"Morning Lucian, make sure you're here by 8 o'clock. You're first assignment is to come with the commander and I to the border today. We're leaving on the dot, so don't be late!"
And with that, she disconnected the video link.
"First assignment so soon?" Lucian yawned out loud.
Oh, right, he was told about it yesterday. Suiting up into his combat gear, he felt kinda proud to do an escort task. Made him feel like a real knight for some reason. Heading on over, he made it with time to spare.
7:54am-------------------------------------------------------------------
After finding the command center, Lucian was a little awed by the setup, with its glass dome shape, religious like stained glass figures, and the earthen charms mixed with technology.
"Good morning, Milli," Lucian greets as he makes his way over to her and a tall man next to her.
"Morning."
"Welcome, Lucian, I don't think I've had the pleasure in meeting you yet," Eton greets with a handshake.
"Yet?" Lucian wondered as he shakes hands.
"I was talking with Lyan last night. He did a fine job with his mission yesterday. Though, things got a little...complicated because of an unforeseen contingency. But where are my manners? My name is Eton Miller, your new commander for the ETMS."
"Commander? ETMS?" Lucian wondered out loud.
"ETMS stands for 'Extra-Terrestrial Missions Squad.' The high brass thought that the growing number of willing volunteers of off-worlders would keep the peace and direct their energies to more meaningful lives while stranded on our world," Milli chips in.
"While we don't force any of you into something you don't want to do, we do expect some form of assistance to pay for your living expenses," Eton comments.
"Wait, when did all this happen, this ETMS business?" Lucian inquired. "Surely it didn't happen over night."
"Actually, this branch did form overnight," Milli casually rebukes. "The government officials had the plans for a while now, and had selected the staff a few days ago. You, Lyan, and Arshei just happened to be released the day we became official. Of course we're starting to recruit volunteers when they're fit in leaving the facility, and those who left a while ago."
"I-I see."
"We can chat along the way, Lucian, it's time to move out," came the commander.
"Sir!" Both Milli and Lucian saluted, though Milli saluted with her left arm out and bent parallel to her chest, while Lucian raised his right arm to his forehead in a diagonal manner.
9:21am--------------------------------------------------------------
Having taken an underground subway station, Lucian, Milli, and Eton were outside of Logoma City, in a secret military installation. Taking a jeep-like vehicle, they rode for a while now, heading north to the border between the Logoma City-State and the Sol Republic City-State.
"So what should we be expecting at this summit?" Lucian finally gave in to his curiosity and asked away.
"A migraine," Eton replied unenthusiastically. "Between the two City-States, there's always been some kind of bicker, but yesterday's issue may be the icing over the top of who knows what."
"Um, that's what we're trying to prevent, right?"
"Yes, and that's why you're our escort. In case things get out of hand," Milli comments with confidence.
Lucian nods as they continued to drive non-existent roadways in a wide open plains stretching north.
1:13pm-------------------------------------------------------------
Having traveled 5 hours by vehicle, they finally arrived to a temple. The designs reminded Lucian that of the Aztecs back on Earth, though the materials look more elaborate with marble stones and various kinds of stained and non-stained glass. Another vehicle, designed for snowy conditions had arrived already nearby.
"Looks like they're here, commander," Milli yawned as she makes her observation.
"Indeed, and that's just another knot in this diplomacy," Eton rubs the temples on his forehead.
Entering into the temple, mythical creatures and religious icons adorn the rather expansive hall of the place. Ahead are three Sol Republicans, two female, one male.
"You're late, Eton!" Spoke the fiery woman.
"How's that?" Lucian wondered quietly to Milli as Eton fought an uphill battle over punctuality.
"That's Fay Romeir, the general and rising star in the Sol Republic. And the woman next to her is her little sister, Mina Romeir, the tactician of their regular forces. And the man over there is Shirou. He's the most mysterious of them all."
Lucian could only nod as Eton apologizes and gets everybody to sit down in a rectangular table for 6. The summit begins.
"About last summit, Fay," Eton spoke first. "We found a spy within our ranks, could you care to explain this?"
Fay was not too thrilled, but she didn't show much hesitation either.
"You lied to me about the Gundra. You're experimenting cybernetics with vita crystals!" Fuming, it appears Fay took that to heart, as if it's no different of terraforming a forest from a tribe living in that forest.
"I can assure you, Lady Romeir, that our Gundra are taken well care of from losing limbs from various kinds of accidents."
"According to our sources, we are lead to believe that you're developing vita crystal energy cells to expand your military's strength," Mina intervened with a straight, if not cute face about it.
"And according to our sources, you're using Beastmen and Gundra for slave labor," Milli rebukes.
Lucian and Shirou stay silent as the bickering goes on and on...Eton was right, this does give a dose of a migraine.
"And what's up with your body guard? His he one of your new lackeys you picked off the ground?" Fay grumbled.
Before Eton or Milli could say a word, Lucian finally chimes in.
"My name is Lucian Windchester, Level B Techno Knight from Euphoria Council Space, of Terran blood. I would appreciate if you would stop being so disrespectful to my superiors, General."
Apparently, that crossed the line.
"What's this? Your lackey dares bark to me?" Fay smolders those words. "Not only did your off-worlder dare tell me what I can and can not do, but your other off-worlder refused to hand over the troublesome merchant for a public execution!"
"Lady Romeir, please forgive my subordinate, he's only acting out of chivalry," Eton pleads as he tries to get discussion back on track.
Another idea fly onto the table.
"I'm curious to know what you're off-worlder can do," Mina inquired.
"Yeah, great idea Mina. I want to know what your off-worlder can do against our growing number of off-worlders," Fay favored the idea with devilish delight.
Eton and Milli sigh, as they both know from previous encounters, that when those two sisters agree on something and Fay has a devilish smile, nothing in this world is going to change their minds.
"As you wish, Lady Romeir. Lucian, please get ready for a spar outside. You have my permission to use full force as needed," Eton commanded.
"Yes, sir."
As the two parties went outside, Lucian was already in a nice open area, unsheathing his sword and readied in his Defensive Stance. Fay pulled out her polearm already in her striking stance.
"Wait, General Romeir is partaking," Milli asked out loud.
Mina could only shrug to her older sister's lust for action.
"Get ready," Fay warns as she suddenly dashed with some aid of wind magic to close in the distance faster than Lucian thought.
Lucian's Mako eyes, filtered the threat more readily, raising his shield up to block the strike head-on, only to realize that her strength had outmatched his block, causing him to lose ground and fall butt first onto the grassy dirt.
Fay laughs, "Is that all you can do, Terran?"
"Not by a long shot," Lucian replies as he got back up again.
Fay launches another striking charge attack, forcing Lucian to sidestep out of harm's way, only to find the back end of the polearm to butt him in the head, stomach, then tripped and fell back onto the ground again.
"Pathetic," Fay grew more bored the fight.
Getting back up, a little winded, Lucian gets back into stance again. Fay goes for a third time. Lucian sidesteps again, and uses the hand of his shield arm to grip the back end of the polearm, as Fay placed too much pressure on the front half of the pole, that she has less control of the lower half in a parry grip maneuver. Lucian kicks her in the stomach hard, forcing her to have a bewildered gaze as she broke the deadlock and created some distance.
"You'll regret that, off-worlder."
"That's Lucian to you too."
Lucian had performed an analyze of Fay. Accroding to his COMMON, she has a lvl 70 Spear stat and a lvl 64 Charge stat. He could also guess that speed and power are favored traits Fay likes to employ. He may have to go all out just to be on equal footing to her, given that he's more slower than her.
Charging to Fay, Lucian performs his Z-combo, only to be parried on the first two tries, but nicked her shoulder pad on the third try. The next move was something no amount of training Lucian had undergo could've prepared him. Fay drops her weapon and her armor had dropped by COMMON or something, revealing a much bustier Fay and her feminine charms. Stunned and confused, Fay glides over and embraces him in a soft...but deadly embrace.
Her leg trips him, falling down, with Fay on top of him. She raises herself up and starts beating the crap outta Lucian's face. Besides bewildered and regretting to lowering his guard so easily, Lucian has no choice now. He activates his Mechagear.
A light brightens, forcing Fay to stop punching the daylights outta Lucian. She notices that her body is being shifted, but couldn't tell what was going on until the light had faded, in Mechagear form.
"M-mechagear?" Fay was shocked.
Regaining her fury, she tries to pound his face again, only to have her bare back burned from Lucian twisting his boot up and point the dash boosters against her back when activating the ignition.
Freeing himself, he pulls out his HM-R-ML Energy Sword, and activates his Bunker Wall into a buckler-type energy shield shape.
Eton intervenes, just as Fay really wants to kill Lucian now for that.
"Stand down, Lucian!"
"Hmph!" Fay shrugs as Mina starts using Healing magic on the burn wound.
Looking back, Fay comments, "Techno Knight, huh? We'll finish our battle at another time."
Everything settled down, and Eton and Fay scheduled another date to continue discussing again. On the way back, Milli was rather impressed that Lucian could stand up to Fay, while Eton was not too enthusiastic about that.
"What's wrong, commander?" Milli wondered.
"It's what Fay had said earlier. That they're gaining outside help just as we are. I don't like this one bit..."
It was dusk when they returned back to HQ. Given his performance of a B-rank, he was paid, and dismissed for the day.
