Name: Joshua Sveltske
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Faction: Rebel

Appearance: Joshua is a pale-skinned young man, who with the height of 6'2'' and the weight of 159 lbs has a slightly athletic body shape. His hair, messy and reaching his upper ears, is a bright blonde, and his thin almond eyes are ice-blue. Due to the color, it is hard to see his eyebrows without getting near Joshua. His face features a snub nose and narrow lips. Joshua usually tries to maintain a permanent serene smile.

He pays much attention to his clothing, usually wearing black cotton shirts, denim pants, and a Balaclava, which he usually folded in a way that reveals his full face. The shirt is neatly tucked into the pants. He prefers gym shoes, as he thinks of them as most comfortable.

Biography: Joshua Sveltske was born to his parents, Miriam Sveltske and Henry Sveltske, in Brockton. His father, an accountant of a winery near Brockton, and his mother, a teacher at a middle school, managed to keep the family in the middle class. Henry eventually changed his employer to an insurance firm, but the job change happened without any notable difficulty.

From beginning on, Joshua was a reserved kid. While he was not particularly anti-social, he tried to avoid contact with other children. Henry and Miriam, themselves rather introverted people, assumed that this was normal behavior for their child and did not bother much about it. They even encouraged him when he began to use his free time to go long walks, with his parents at first, but eventually alone, to explore and document his environment at 10, as they deemed this pastime as intellectual.

Through his puberty, Joshua's attitude concerning social activities didn't change. When asked about this, he'd usually reply that he is not interested in having friends. While he meant that he things like playing with his peers boring, that statement put off some people, including his parents, who now thought that there was Joshua was more than a little bit introverted and speculated that he had anxiety disorders. However, Joshua was capable of engaging in conversation without problems and did not show any signs of stress when faced with challenging tasks. These observations relieved Henry and Miriam, and they resolved to just wait further to see how the boy develops. As it turned out, Joshua never made something like a best friend, but was still popular for his caring nature, usually expressed by him trying to right wrongs.

After the Riverside incident, the Sveltskes tried to flee at first, but the military presence intimidated them, plus the fact that they had powers, which would have led to an arrest. Therefore they decided to stay and wait for an opportunity to flee. Henry and Miriam lost their jobs, and eventually tried to earn their living via criminal activities, such as theft. They tried to downplay and justify this behavior in front of their son, but due to Joshua's powers, raised empathy, he knew that his parents felt immense guilt for what they do. Not wanting to upset them, Joshua avoided all subjects that could worry his parents, such as Joshua's emotional well-being, when talking with them.

Eventually, Joshua, feeling the suffering of the city, decided to find a way to end this. He joined up with the rebels, also partly because he was intrigued by Alice Barnstead. His parents weren't thrilled at first, but ultimately didn't object, since they secretely hoped the rebels would liberate the citizens. The rebels decided that Joshua should determine whether newcomers are genuine followers or undercover agents.

Despite Joshua's unwillingness to interact with people unless necessary, he still cares a lot about his family and his allies among the rebels. He also tries to remain optimistic and encouraging towards his allies.

Power: Raised Empathy. Joshua can feel the feelings, thoughts and intentions of people around him. However, it is very simple. For example, someone intending to harm a special person would be registered as feelings of hostility. The power is also always present, causing Joshua to avoid large masses of humans, as so many emotions would have negative consequences, ranging from slight annoyance to overwhelming his mind.

Starting Belongings: Kitchen Knife, Pistol, a bag full of cookies and other edible little things

The only thing is that if the family were halted by the military they would be taken in for questioning/otherwise be out of the city. So you're going to have to elaborate a little on why they're still in Brockton.

Next to the edit you requested, I also have elaborated on Henry's and Miriam's thoughts when Joshua joined the rebels, and additionally, I have included some potential risks in his power section.

"plus the fact that people the family had powers" <- I assume you mean people in the family? I was reading through looking for the specific edits and I caught this, so I kind of have to rag on it.
