Name: Stephanie Apple
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Faction: Rebel
Appearance: Steph is fairly unremarkable to look at, being of fairly average height and weight with no particularly distinguishing features. She has brown hair which reaches to her neck and is kept out her eyes by a blue headband. She has emerald green eyes set deep in her heart shaped face, with an aquiline nose and thin lips. She often wore a lot of make up thinking this would make up for her fairly unremarkable features.
She is often seen wearing loose-fitting tracksuits and sports jackets which largely hide her body. This is more due to the comfort and convenience, such as for quick escapes, rather than any lack of confidence about her body.

Biography: Stephanie is the only child of Richard and Charlotte Apple. She was born and raised in Northwest territory and is proud of her Canadian heritage. She was born prematurely on 9th December; as a result of her premature birth she has problems with her hearing. Though not totally deaf she requires a hearing aid, though even this is inefficient.

At school Steph had some problems with holding conversations and hearing the teacher during lessons. As a result she sometime struggled in class but learnt to use her ‘sound bubble’ to concentrate harder on her own particular task. From a young age she learnt American Sign Language to help with her communication. Partly due to this, coupled with her self confidence, she had no trouble making friends.

From a young age she liked to keep fit, this was helped by the long walks necessary to get to any population centre or to see her friends. Her dad liked to hunt and as a result there was often a gun in the house. That is not to say Richard left it lying around, it was kept in his study unloaded and well away from his daughter. However, Richard did believe that to avoid accidents when she was old enough, and if she showed interest, he should teach his daughter basic gun safety. What he hadn’t realised is how much this would inspire her to practice her marksmanship, with tin cans up in the hills around their house. This started off with an air rifle under his supervision and slowly, as her confidence and skill increased, graduated from this.

Steph loved watching close captioned war movies, perhaps a result of watching them whilst sat on her grandparents’ knee when she was small. As a result she loved the idea of joining the army. Due to the focus of these movies being the American army saving the day, at the perfect dramatic moment, Steph wanted to join the US army. She also believed they were the best trained combat force and she wanted to be the best. It quickly became her focus to join the US marines or become a sniper. As such she regularly practiced her marksman skills, finding she was able to concentrate easily on each shot.

Although she was aware her hearing may well scupper her dreams of joining the Marine Corps Steph was determined to try. It was with mixed feelings that she left Canada to chase this dream, moving to Riverside at the age of 18 to stay with an elderly American relative. She always keeps a hand carved maple leaf necklace on her to remind her of home. Her parents were conflicted about letting her go as they were fairly certain she would not succeed. However, they felt she should be allowed to follow her dream, especially as she was so determined, and felt she might learn important skills and lessons from the trip anyway.

After the Riverside incident Steph initially thought she had no powers and thus on the death of her relative, from old age, started to prepare to leave. She was saddened and frustrated by a letter she received confirming that she had failed the medical for entry into the US Marine Corps. This coupled with homesickness meant she decided to do some shooting. Using an air rifle she had acquired for purpose she started shooting cans, this calmed her as it reminded her of home. However, whilst concentrating very hard on a tricky shot she discovered her power. It was as if she hyper focused and the can and her were the only two objects in existence. She fired the bullet through the loop of the can, a shot she could scarcely believe. However, almost immediately she fainted and only woke up a day later. She slowly refined and trained her use of her power to the extent she no longer faints and needs less recovery.

Upon finding out about her power Steph spent a few months, living on her remaining cash, trying to get out by peaceful methods. She initially tried to invoke her rights as a Canadian citizen stating the US have no right to hold her against her will and demanding to see the ambassador. After this failed she attended a number of civilian protests but quickly realised that violence appeared to be the only way to stand up to the military. Due to her dwindling resources and the sheer futility of other protest types she then threw her lot in with the rebels.

Her marksman skills proved useful though she initially really struggled with the idea of actually killing someone. After failing to both get in the army and to leave Riverside, Steph has become disillusioned and also determined to prove the US army wrong. It is anger prompted by this belief that means she will kill if necessary but it is still an issue of conflict with her. She realises that she needs to learn to kill if she wants to be a sniper.

Power: 'Bullet time' Steph can perceive a target as if they were moving in slow motion. The power is very draining and the longer it is kept on the more draining it is on her. At a low level this can simply mean exhaustion or burst blood vessels, a liability to faint and a long 'recharge' time on the power. There is also a risk if she overused the power that she could get permanently stuck in slow motion.

Belongings: green and gold tracksuit, maple leaf necklace, boots, scoped .30-30 Winchester rifle

Okay, I can't let that power fly. It's not a matter of how powerful the power is - in fact, I've had a 'bullet time' power posed towards me and after discussing the capabilities behind it, I allowed it. The 'bullet time' part of the power is actually fine, given a few caveats (how hard is it to activate? Is it always on, meaning you live a tortured life in slow motion?). The readouts, though... no power's going to give you a HUD.

The power needs some strong re-imaginings, basically. We can talk about it in chat if you wish, or on board PM.
