Ok Im Now gonna give my review on DBZ:, the legacy of goku, which i borrowed from my freind in 5th grade, PLEASE, only comments relating to the game, now to the review.![]() *sigh*...this DBZ game, well whatever Story: (2/10) The story takes place from the start of DBZ to the end of the Freeza saga…. but that’s only a few fights right? So they have to add lots of things in between to keep you busy… and that’s where they lose points for story. While traveling to battles you will do things such as… get a toy boat for a kid, rescue a cat, and find magazines. The story is butchered and extremely vague. If you have not seen Dragonball Z then you will have absolutely no idea what is going on. They sum up entire episodes with a sentence and no animations. I would expect this type of thing from a fan game but from an official game that costs $40!? I can’t believe they allowed something like this to be published! Oh… and a side note… they also changed some of the story to fit the game… some changes were reasonable but others were just plain stupid. An example is there is an oldman that teaches you the solar flare because you “put the forest at peace”. jesus *sips* Movie/Animation Sequences: (1/10) This game lacks. Again, If you are not a DBZ fan you will be very confused…. When Raditiz takes Gohan they both just sort of disappear and then Piccolo appears. No animation at all. They tried to make up for this by having screen shots from the show… this is really corny if you ask me. You’ll see a picture from the show just about every time you go to a new area. It gets old real fast… You’ll begin to think to yourself things like “They have 50 screen caps in this game yet they didn’t even make an attempt to make the Kamehameha look a little better”. This game also has an opening which is basically a rip of the show opening… not very original at all… but they didn’t keep the music for the opening… they replaced it with their own music. I’ll go in to music and sounds later *sips* Gameplay: (0/10) This game has some of the worst gameplay I’ve ever seen. Lets break it up into parts. Melee Attack: You have a punch technique. That is it. Basically what you do is walk up to the enemy and press the button and it hurts them. But you wont be using this very much… you know why? Because if you are close enough to hit them then they are close enough to hit you and their attacks are about ten times as strong as yours. Energy Attacks: In this game you will eventually get three energy attacks. As you progress through the game some enemies will also get energy attacks. These attacks will be what you use to get through the game. You can charge up the attacks which is nice but normally the enemies will catch up to you and hit you. Flying: Yes that’s right in this game you can fly…. But you may not know you can because it takes so long for your flying points to charge up and each one lasts about ½ a second. None of the enemies can fly and there is no aerial combat. You’ll be using flying for running away. That’s pretty much all you can use it for…. Movement: Oh this is a great one. This game does not even allow diagonal movement. That type of thing was ok in the days of Nintendo but the GameBoy Advanced is like a portable Super Nintendo. You will find that most of the time you will just walk in a straight-line right up to something and hit it or shoot it. That is pretty much how you fight… and yes, it does get very repetitive. AI and strategy: The AIs in this gave are very, very stupid. Even though they have energy attacks you will find that it is very rare for them to use one. The majority of the time they will just run up to you and punch you…. Which leads me to the strategy you will find yourself using about 90% of the time…. You will spend most of the game running away, then when you have enough distance you will turn and shoot and start running again. After you reach a high enough level you can kill normal enemies by hitting them but you wont because you wont want to risk getting hit. If you are close enough to punch then there is a 99% chance that they have already punched you. If you just use punch you will find that you and the AI will just stand there. I guess the AI has a timer on it but that’s it. If you run away the AI will chase after you…. This is what EVERY enemy in this game will do. You will find that fighting in this game is very boring… but sadly… this is the highlight of the game. Music/Sound fx: (1/10) The game has them…. That’s about the only good thing I can say about that. You will find that this game’s music is like poor quality NES music. I don’t believe that a professional made this music… but then again I don’t believe that FUNimation is a professional dubbing company. I’m sorry that I’m not that good at describing music but it’s bad. Lets just leave it at that. The sound effects are limited to a few grunts and a few misc sounds. Many things in the game are without sounds(ie charging at attack)… the things with sounds you’ll wish didn’t have sounds. The blasts sound like someone dropping sand. By the end of the game you will have the volume turned off…. Trust me. Graphics: (4/10) Hurray! Something that isn’t beyond horrible in the game. The Graphics aren’t good, but they aren’t terrible bad either. You will find that level graphics are very vivid and nicely made. It’s almost as if they were stolen from “Dragonball Z: Legend of the Super Saiya-jin”… The sprites, however, are very bulky. They only reason you can figure out who some characters are is because of their avatar when you talk to them or because of their hair color… If I could have pictures in this review then this would be a whole lot easier to show. Buy Or Rent: Definently Rent, i mean i was pissed playing this game, no, just dont rent it at all, just do what i did, if your friend has it, just borrow it for like a day or two, and just see how shitty the game is, *sips*, just dont really play it, its not worth your money to buy, rent,or borrow. |
