Mojang, along with Minecraft is being sold to Microsoft! Price Mojang was bought for: $1,200,000,000!!! 1.2 BILLION! Yes it is true, Notch along with other key executives of Mojang have decided to sell to the company Microsoft. Notch stated that al though he is proud of the game's success he never intended for it to get this big, and no longer wants the attention as he wants to simply make games. Notch being the majority Shareholder at Mojang doesn't want the responsibility of owning a company of global significance so he decided to sell. The official statement by Mojang states that there were only a handful of potential buyers for the company, and Microsoft seemed to be a prefect match, as the have been working with them since 2012, and they have expressed their impression with Microsoft's dedication to the game. Many gamers of Minecraft on other consoles and platforms have expressed their concerns with the fact that Microsoft is buying the game in worry that Microsoft might stop production of those platforms. In the official statement by Mojang they expressed that there would be no reason to stop production of those platforms, however Microsoft will be able to make those decisions. However it would definitely would be foolish to stop them as they would make a lot of money off the other non- Microsoft platforms. [ Addition: It is confirmed by both Microsoft and Mojang that all Non- Microsoft platforms of Minecraft will be continued, so no worry Mincraft PS and Mobile players!] As for further development of the game, Microsoft has promised to continue the game's tradition of upgrading and developing it, using feedback from the ever growing Minecraft community. They hope to continue making the game a special one and want it to continue growing as it once did. As for the Mojang staff, some have decided to leave such as Notch, Carl, and Jakob. Some others may decide to stay, however it is too early to tell. In General many things should not change with the new ownership and many things are still unknown at the current time. However more information will be available as the story develops.
