Alright, not exactly original, but I'm pretty sure we could put some fun twists on it. Like a lot of ideas, this could go a lot of ways. We could all be in competition for prestige and wealth, or all be in it together, a guild of sorts. Technology level, I was thinking medieval, with some twists. Thrown in a little technology, probably around steam-punk level, a little magic, and a fair dosage of the supernatural. For a setting, I was thinking just one big city to run around in. Corrupt nobles, religious sects, the law enforcement. If any of you have happened to play Thief, The Dark Project that is exactly what I envision it like. How about the Victorian Era? You know, when thieves were at their greatest over in Europe. It was the time when there were academies for girls only or guys only. If you don't know exactly when, it was about when they were colonizing in the Americas. Pocahantas time, if you've seen the Disney movie. |

Hmm, interesting. The only problem would be that I don't really know all that much about that whole period of time, never mind the underground crime world, to really run an RP about it. Also, then it sort of loses that romanticized dazzle that only a fantasy can give it. In reality, you would probably break in, grab some vaguely valuable looking junk, maybe knock out a maid-servant or two, then be off. But in a fantasy setting, there are so many possibilities that never actually happened in real life. You know, like descending into accursed tombs to uncover as many riches as you can get your hands on, breaking into a magnificent palace that has been warped by magic to be a madhouse maze, encountering acid spewing lizards guarding the family heirloom. That sort of thing |

Indiana Jones esque? If it's a 'family heirloom,' it wouldn't be stealing, more be recovering. Maybe you're thinking more of Treasure Hunters? How about this. We could all make characters that have either known eachother for a long time or are just meeting, and have them be part of a treasure hunting group, like major treasures. If you've seen National Treasure, sort of like the group they had at the beginning of the movie, before they broke up. |

No, no, I meant more like an actually family heirloom of a noble who's house we broke into. However, what you described is almost exactly what I envisioned. The group would take more than just "recovery" jobs though. Seeking unclaimed treasure would be part of it, grave robbing and your Indiana Jones type stuff, but then there's treasure that someone else has already recovered for us. Give me some time, I'll consult the oracle and come up with a setting and plot to propose. |

Actually Luke, the Victorian Era was about the late 1800s. The colonization of America was during the 1600s. |

*ahem* Teren, The Gleaming City. A massive sprawl, seen from miles around due to it's state of the art magically powered street lighting system. On the surface, it is ruled by an elected city council that govern the city and provide law and order. But looks can be deceiving, and beneath the gleaming exterior lies a heart rotten with corruption. True power is held by the city's aristocracy, the crime lords, a collection of incredibly wealthy nobles that receive a significant portion of their incomes from illicit dealings. From gabling dens, to loan sharking, to plain outright extortion and thuggery. They control the fate of the city one way or the other through a network of connections and corruption, and the government, when not itself bribed or corrupted, can only sit idly. the crime barons own magnificent mansions in the heart of the city, and each have their own private army of guards and thugs. They are competition with themselves, with the numerous powerful guilds, and with a religious sect know as the Architects, who revere an omnipotent architect of all humanity who gave them the gift of civilized life. There are also tales told, in whispers gathered around a glowing hearth, of a secret faction know as the Keepers, forsworn to preserve the balance and keep safe the dark secrets of the city. All of this provides a perfect background for a thief to make a living. Recently, a discovery was made in an ancient temple outside of the city. A perfectly wrought gem that seems to swirl like smoke when the light hits it, kept inside of a box made of the clearest crystal. The artifact was quickly "acquired" by Lord Barond. Barond is a relatively new face in the city. Known to be an eccentric and a fanatical collector, he moved into town and constructed a palace almost overnight. However, his new acquisition has attracted the attention of numerous thieves in the city, and many now devote their attention to cracking the Barond's defenses and taking the new artifact for themselves. |

I'm not sure, but it seems pretty promising. If we were to get this one up and running, I think it could be pretty fun. |

Winter has this idea going, and then take a second look at my Rogue's RP. I'm sure both would be fun. |

Who's up for making a move on this? Feel like we could take a few members and have at it a bit. Anything? |

I'm in favor. Maybe something like Uncharted combined with a heist movie? |
