*Ahem* The Thousand Worlds, Homespace, The Old Empire, these and innumerable other names have been attributed to the tiny corner of the galaxy in which the human race has spread and flourished. From the ancient homeworld on Old Earth, colony after colony was founded after the discovery of interstellar flight. From atop an iron throne, the Federal Empire crushed all in its path, and countless alien races and empires were consumed by the unstoppable might of the grand fleets. It was, however, not to last. The empire grew bloated and unstable. the bureaucracy that tied the innumerable worlds together was inefficient and clumsy. At first in a trickle, and then in a raging torrent the colonies began to break free of their old allegiances, and founded colonies of their own. Soon the tiny spot of light that humanity had carved for itself amongst the stars was shattered forever into a thousand fragments, each striving and struggling in their own paths. Old Earth locked itself away from a hostile universe, and even its location has been consumed by the sands of time. Supposedly it still exists somewhere at the heart of the The Thousand Worlds, making its worn and weary trek around Sol, ready to reclaim its empire when the time is right. It has been more than a thousand standard years since The Fall, and The Thousand Worlds flourishes still. However, beyond the edges of Homespace, towards the galactic core and towards the very fringes of the Milky Way, lurk unknown beings and places beyond imagining: hushed whispers of lore learned secondhand from beings that drift through The Thousand Worlds like ghosts as they make their way across the galaxy. One of these places, on a world on the very edge of Homespace whose very name remains a mystery, lies The Artifact. With The Artifact is played The Game. The Game has drawn competitors from every possible corner of known space. Those who seek to play have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. It is an opportunity for new life, and the threat of blackest death. The players walk into the Artifact, and eventually one or more walks out, for better or for worse. Some have appeared reborn, some so disfigured as to be unrecognizable, some switch bodies, and some vanish completely. Some claim that the game represents the loftiest pillars of hope, and others the lowliest pits of despair. One thing is for certain: to play, you must be strong of mind and spirit, and ready to make great sacrifices for what you desire and need. Do you accept? |

Nice. You know you're onto something when everyone responds with exclamation points. My vacation is almost at an end, so I should have the time to develop a template and a sign up for this very soon. Unless anyone has any additions or comments over than overwhelming interest for the idea, it shouldn't require any modification. |

I approve. It sounds like a mildly entertaining opportunity to roll out another psychotic mass murderer. |
