Dear Madam President Cordelia Gold,

I am truly humbled that you find me as a person of notability. In truth, I am but a simple sailor. It was no great feat to discover Silverna, for truly it was an accident: a bit of poor luck with the weather. My frigate blew off course while we were hold up below, and before I had figured out where we ended up, a new world seemingly rose from the sea! Like a great beast, she lumbered over the horizon.

You can imagine my great surprise when we returned home to such adulation. We did nothing: literally sat below the deck. Such critical acclaim escapes me. I do not feel deserving, because nothing to deserve it was done.

Yes. Nothing has been done yet. That part is to come isn’t it? I was merely the prologue. The story begins now. With you. What will you do, Madam President? A wealth of resource awaits for whoever claims it. Who will go to Silverna? Who will make it theirs?

If you ask this humble merchant, there is more opportunity here than wealth and resources... There is opportunity for community, friendship, and cooperation. That is why I plan on accepting your invitation to join you for the celebration of Silverna’s discovery. My part of this story is nearly done. The next chapter is all about them: the explorers. Every pilgrim to Silverna: merchant, tailor, cook, soldier, mercenary, cartographer… It is they who will change the world as we now know it. It is they who will make the discoveries. It is they who will be famous.

History will remember me. I will be synonymous with its birth. But that is all. Silverna lives and dies with the explorers. Silverna lives and dies with the nobles. Silverna lives and dies with the leaders of this world. Silverna lives and dies with you. You are all its heart now. Beat proudly.

Regards from an insignificant merchant,

Atticus Clem Raynard

Thanks! It's going to be a DnD campaign soon so I needed as much info as possible for the girls who are playing. I've been combing over it to change things from the DnD lore a bit but I think I got it all.

I'm still pondering exactly what to create although I'm thinking half and/human although I'm not sure yet.

Can you give us more details on how this would work and what you hope to see for the rp.

I'll admit, I know nothing about D&D

You don't need to know anything about DnD because it's not actually DnD focused. It's just a basic plot I plan to use.

Let's see...more information... hmm...

Basically, the story starts with a group of people on a ship about to arrive to this newly discovered continent. They're a mix of all types: explorers, navigators, architects, merchants, nobles, police etc. And they're all going to Silverna with the idea of colonization, exploration, and fame in mind.

You can be of any profession the only thing is you just need a reason to want to go to the New World. You can have magic (a lot or a little) or none at all.

The main point of the story is to uncover the secrets of Silverna.

As far as magic goes, and Anne already asked me about this, you do not have to confine yourself to DnD knowledge. The Marked are part elementals so they can only do magic related to their element but if you're an...elf for instance, and you studied magic as a career I'd expect them to be able to conjure all of the basic elements and maybe have a few oddball spells up their sleeve.

You could you only healing magic. You could be a druid and talk to animals.

I hope that answered some questions, Mysti. I'm not sure what you're really looking for. What is a half and/ human? Did you mean a half elf? Do you want to know more about them? I can answer that too.

The Morning and the Evening Sun
Name - Dorthea Veronica Marsbury

Age - 26

Gender - Female

Race - Human

Country of Origin - Aerestein

Occupation - Company's Cook

Background - Dorthea was born in Gaeleon, the Golden City of Aerestein, to a merchant of excellent reputation and some wealth and his wife. Growing up, Dorthea was taught to behave as a lady... as long as circumstances allowed. Occasionally even a lady must temporarily dispense with good manners to achieve one's goals. Dorthea took this to heart, and when she decided to become a chef, it helped her immensely.

After attending and graduating from a very prestigious culinary school, Dorthea quickly rose to prominence as an excellent up-and-coming chef. At the hight of her popularity, she worked at a restaurant that hosted the cream of society; all the up-and-ups dined there, and she basked in the joy she felt at creating her wonderful, edible works of art.

Then one day she was approached by a steward of a noble house who asked if she would prepare a succulent feast at his master's house for a very special occasion. Two families who had long had bad blood between them had agreed to make peace by marrying a couple from both sides. Dorthea took the job and on the night of the celebration made a sumptuous feast which would be fit to grace the halls of any high temple in the lands.

Unfortunately, the meal was forgotten in the commotion that came after the bride-to-be died after eating her soup. The food was undoubtedly poisoned, and Dorthea knew that... but she could not prove it. She was found innocent of murder, but her name was blacklisted from that moment onward. Disgraced and furious at the injustice of having been made a patsy to someone else's crime, she signed up on the expedition calling herself Veronica Marsbury in the hopes that no one would recognize her as the woman who had supposedly caused someone's death with her food.

Reason for Journeying - Dorthea's reputation as a chef is dead throughout Aerestein, and there is no other civilized place where she could escape her reputation. She knows that on the expedition, people will have much bigger things to focus on than the oddly evasive company cook who dislikes answering questions about herself, and maybe if they succeed, she can create a new life for herself... as the first culinary savant of the New World!

And also having excellent aim with a shotgun doesn't hurt.

I'm like 2 paragraphs away from being done! But I'm also simultaneously throwing a big bday party for the hubby this weekend so that's taking up a lot of my time. And I'm trying to get a jump start on writing the intro to Nightengale (which you ladies should totally join lol) and so I'm like flitting back and forth between all these things and and and

Excuses.

It'll be done soon!

Totally! Druid is just a type of magic user whose powers come from nature. So a half-elf druid would have nature based powers but you could throw healing in there.

I couldn't resist. Dorthea needs someone to talk to on the trip!

Name - Durgal Stoneword

Age - 124

Gender - Male

Race - Dwarf

Country of Origin - Boldur

Occupation - Mercenary

Background – Originally from the city of Dorndur in Undirgrund, Durgal was a born warrior and had a lust for adventure even at a young age. He spent much of his youth training in weaponry and combat, and joined up with an expedition to discover new mines at the age of 55, which was rather young. With the success of that expedition, he became rather in demand and spent several decades protecting mining caravans in the Underdark until be grew restless and decided to travel to the surface where he felt there would be more honor to be had.

He traveled to Nondirgrund where he was hired as a bodyguard for some wealthy merchants. He met many different races and saw many different things during this time, and the early years were very good to him. But after a while, he realized that he had become little more than a thug, carrying out orders for a merchant without really realizing or caring what the legality of these orders were. He left the merchant's employ and returned to Undirgrund, where he spent several months in serious contemplation over what course his life had taken. At this point, he had become hardened and cynical, and felt that all his searching for honor and glory had come to nothing. But when Silverna was discovered, he became eager for the prospect to travel to a land where none had gone before. The thought of being one of the first warriors in that new land excited him, and he decided to join the expedition.

Reason for Journeying – Durgal feels that there is no real adventure in the world right now, and that the place in the world for warriors like himself is growing smaller. Although his more cynical side holds that this is true, a small part of him remains hopeful that there may yet be a place for people like him in the future, and maybe he'll discover this place in Silverna.

Not my best work, but it'll get me started!

Name - Miri Tyr

Age - 22

Gender - Female

Race - Human

Country of Origin - Originally from Pallwatch, Aerestein, but currently residing in The Ironwood

Occupation - Woodland Strider

Background - Miri was born to a mismatched couple in Pallwatch. Her father worked in a shipyard, her mother a trader who had planned to simply pass through the city. A night together in the tavern and later at his home changed her plans; an unwelcome surprise for a woman who never wanted to put down roots and a man who didn’t care much for children in general. As soon as Miri was old enough to eat solid food, her mother was off again, leaving the toddler with her always-working father.

Miri was an independent child, perhaps because of this lackluster parenting or perhaps her mother’s adventurous spirit was passed onto her. Whatever the reason, Miri’s self-sufficiency grew as she did. She was known for wandering the streets on Pallwatch on her own at a young age, and for her intense curiosity in the traders and travelers who came and went through the city. As she grew, she found herself attracted more and more to people of magic. Miri eventually convinced her father to let her attend a school in Caelora so she could pursue her interest in the magical arts. By the time she was twelve, Miri found herself in The Ironwood.

Sociable and ever adventurous, Miri made friends easily in the new town, though learning and abiding to new school rules was a bit of a challenge. Regardless, Miri put her head to the task of learning magic and did so successfully. As she progressed, she set her sights on joining the Mystwatch. A career of action and adventure and the pursuit of magic seemed that it would suit her perfectly.

When she was eighteen, Miri was visiting a tavern with a group of friends when a young man caught her eye. Chocolate brown hair, an athletic form, bright blue eyes and a lopsided smile was a combination that had her heart fluttering. The young man seemed to feel the same, and a night of flirting lead to daring kisses and more. Within two months, Miri had married Kyden Tyr.

The two took a break from their respective schools and jobs to spend a honeymoon deep in the Ironwood together. Hiking, hunting, and spending dark nights in each others’ arms was practically heaven for the girl.

It was on an especially dark night that a group of six roving bandits happened upon their little camp. Deciding that a young boy and his bride would make an easy target, they attacked. It should have been fairly easy for newlyweds to fend off the attackers, but the darkness, the chaos of a brawl, and the sudden taste of fear left Miri disoriented. She cast a spell, too big for their little scuffle, engulfing their campsite in flames. The girl realized her mistake too late, and by the time she was able to control and extinguish the flames, she was the only survivor.

The tragedy left a scar on Miri’s heart. She lost her love, but also was suddenly hit with the realization that she couldn’t control her own powers. Magic had become something she relied on too much and too strongly in all situations. While it had been a convenience before, it felt like an addition. In the grey light of morning, surrounded by ashes, Miri resolved never to use magic again.

She eventually joined the Woodland Striders, as her restless spirit wouldn’t let her sit and mourn forever. Miri learned to rely on physical weapons rather than mystical powers, taking up blades and guns. The job keeps her busy and keeps her mind off her own troubles, but there are still many nights when Miri finds herself alone with a bottle, desperately trying not to think of the past.

Reason for Journeying - Miri has always been attracted to new people and places, and a journey to a new world sounds like a fantastic adventure. The young widow also hopes that stepping out of a land that is familiar might help her forget all that came before.

Appearance - Miri stands at a slightly tall 5’8. Her hair is a coppery brown, usually let loose to hang about her shoulders. Eyes are a deeper brown and pair with her olive skin to give the girl a warm appearance. Her build is athletic, especially since taking up a position with the Striders. She perhaps looks a bit older than she actually is, with fine lines beginning to make themselves at home on her brow and at the corners of her eyes.

Miri’s clothing is more for functionality than fashion, typically of leather and cool cotton and natural hues. Tall boots protect her legs from the brush of the forest and a short cloak keeps her warm on misty mornings.

The girl carries a rifle slung over her back and two long daggers hang on her hips. A flintlock pistol is also always within reach, usually strapped to her side.

Anne, I love her! :D

I'm going to mention a few things, but you by no means have to change your character at all as I think she is perfectly suited to the Woodland Striders.

In my head, I envisioned the Woodland Striders as almost exclusively elven. However, after reading your character I could certainly see how a human who has become welcomed in the elven community would be accepted into the woodland striders. They also typically carry bows rather than guns as a way of being more one with nature, but they certainly wouldn't cast you out for using one. Miri would certainly have to prove herself every time she met a new elf in the Striders and new recruits would be very quick to think themselves better than her until she proves them wrong.

These are just some things so you understand the dynamics of the group you're about to leave. So don't feel like you need to change it at all. :)

Oh that would be just fine. She's not the type to back down from a challenge, and she definitely welcomes anything to help her stay "in the moment", so the pressure of having to constantly prove herself and stay on her game would be ideal.

I wouldn't mind switching her weapons if you would rather, though!

Name - Gilraen Culnámo

Age - 68 but looks to be in her early twenties.

Gender - Female

Race - Half-Elf -Human

Country of Origin - The Ironwood

Occupation - Druid Healer to the Nobles

Background - Coming from a long line of healers, Gilraen was born into a family of aristotricacy. Her elven father is Dinendal of Ironwood. Her mother, a human druid healer named Darina is from Aerestein. Darina is an exeptional healer who once married to Dinendal, a noble, became well known for her healing capabilities. It was not long after the couple was married that Darina was acccepted into a position as a royal healer when she saved a prestigious royal whose life was quickly diminishing due to a rare and often times deadly disease. With her extensive knowledge of natural medicines, Darina saved his life.

Not long after, the young healer became pregnant and gave birth to the half elven, half human girl that they named Gilraen. The girl was born into a world of aristocracy, a world that although she loved, she also at times loathed. She longed to become a woodland strider, but her parents stature as nobility prevented it and her parents forbid it.

Although they did allow her to become well versed in the use of weaponry, the girls studies were purely driven by her family history of being healers and the young girl began to realize that she had a natural born knack for healing, as though the usage and instruction of natural medicine had been ingrained in her very soul from birth. Not only did the girl learn the use of herbs and natural elements for healing over the course of her teenage years, she also far surpassed her mothers capabilities and soon Gilraen joined the ranks of the nobilities healers.

Reason for Journeying - Part of her reason for making the journey simply put, is partial boredom and her desire to know more of the world beyond what she has known behind the curtains of her aristocratic life. But, that is not her only reason for wanting to make the journey. As a healer, she is always looking for new plants and elements that may have healing properties that could be beneficial to not only her own race, but to all races.

Works for me! For background clarity, the royals are more so nobles than kings and queens. In the elven community, Kings and Queens rule by divine right. So whoever is born elven and elemental is seen as worthy to become king/queen. But they would certainly have nobility and a noble court that supports the monarch and her father could absolutely be from that.

And one more thing: Gilraen would probably live to about 200 or 250. Elves live twice to three times as long as that and humans live to between 80 and 100.

Just so we're all on the same page. :D

I will make a profile for the main character I'm going to use as well. I was agonizing over who to pick when I realized that the joy of being the GM is I can be them all! :D

Meet the Lucke brothers!

Name - Ezra Emerson Lucke

Age - 28

Gender - Male

Race - Ifrit

Country of Origin - Hyntalands

Occupation - Writer

Background - Ezra was born in the middle of summer, when the sun is high and sweltering and fire burns at its hottest. His mother, Hettie Sophia Lucke, was a simple yet beautiful woman who lived in Emberstead and fell for a fiery stranger she met at a pub. The elemental in human form was smitten with her soft features and sharp tongue. He took her away from Emberstead to live in the Hyntalands with him. They raised Ezra together for two years until the elemental suddenly vanished one night.

On Highcourt Isle, Hettie was out of place but quickly fell into the arms of another elemental. The water spirit and Hettie soon gave birth to another - an undine - boy. Together, the four of them lived on Highcourt Isle for several years. But as Ezra reached his teen years, he started feeling left out and often outnumbered.

At the urging of his step father Aquiris, Ezra agreed to leave for Firecourt Isle. Hettie escorted him back and begged for him to stay but he made up his mind and his mother left him with a monastery of monks who agreed to train and educate the boy. It was not the last time he saw his mother, but he wouldn't see her again for a long time.

At the monastery, Ezra learned to fight and to harness his innate fire magic. He learned to worship the sun god Aeser and the Dragon God Rhaegos. He learned to read and to write in several languages. And he learned to live with very little.

As an adult, Ezra's life is spent travelling from Fire Court Isle to the Mainland to perform acts of service for the less fortunate. While on the mainland he also gathers information to bring back home to the Ifrits on the island.

Reason for Journeying - Ezra's reasons for going are two-fold: he wants to record the events that take place on Silverna for historic records, and he hopes to establish a center of spiritual well-being for adventurers.

Name - Ambrose Arnold Lucke

Age - 25

Gender - Male

Race - Undine

Country of Origin - Hyntalands

Occupation - Guild master of the Order of the Sea Drake

Background -
Everything that Ezra is, Ambrose absolutely is not. Where Ezra is calm and collected, Ambrose is wild and unpredictable. Where Ezra is pious, Ambrose is grounded in reality. Where Ezra is chaste, Ambrose is flirtatious. Ezra may seem satisfied with a penniless life, but Ambrose loves the lavish and luxurious side of life.

Hettie and Aquiris gave him everything he ever wanted growing up. Every need was met. The best education they could afford was given him. He was told he could become anything. So he became the best thing he could think to become: ridiculously wealthy.

His wealth did not come without hard work however. It is not common that one should hear of a Marked Tribesman becoming a member of a guild but sure enough he did. And when he learned the tools of the trade he started his own guild: The Order of the Sea Drake. The guild functioned as a ferrying service for the Marked originally, but over time grew into a service available across Eclum. If you need to charter a ship from one country to another, chances were you were using a Sea Drake vessel.

Reason for Journeying - Ambrose's reasons for going are two-fold: To establish a ferry route to the new world, and to scout out economic opportunities in a land of hidden potential.
