Aliela's attention was brought away from Amby's howling as another female spoke. What was it with so many of them on this trip? Her blue eyes wandered until they set upon Audra, the girl from earlier. Must have been late? They better hurry up or they're going to regret it, she thought impatiently, no real threat behind it. The guardian called out a name but she didn't hear what it was. "Very," she agreed dryly. Her features were clearly Aquesian. They weren't known for their tolerance of heat. Leela's eyes wandered again, tracing the white fur that Amby had begun to shed all along the ground, like a trail of breadcrumbs, almost. "It'd be much better if our last member hurried up," she muttered, mostly to herself as she squinted at the village, trying to see if anyone was running through or hustling away from the rest of the leaving crowd. There were still a lot of people chatting from the meeting. Aliela huffed, taking in the dry, hot air. Today was going to be long. Thankfully, a familiar face came riding in, full speed on a horse. She took a sharp intake of breath and the bored look on her face disappeared, her blue eyes lighting up. "Jer?" She gasped, grinning as he dismounted his horse. Aliela found herself wrapping her arms around her old friend. "Oh, it's been forever," Leela whispered, but quickly let go and stepped back, remembering the golden band around her finger. No matter, there was still a smile on her pretty features, and she didn't regret it or blush at all. Lazel wasn't the only one who had an old friend. "I can't believe you're here." Fen was still gently tapping the gasping girl's back. As the last member of their group arrived, she looked around at the others. It was a good way of getting to know what they were about, how they reacted on each other. She was still wondering how to act amongst them, though there was no rush in finding out. She'd act subdued and silent and kind, and would simply watch and learn. With her free hand, she brushed some wrinkles out of her travellingclothes, even though it wasn't really necessary. It was just a habit, something she absent-mindedly did. Fen bowed forward a bit to see how the lady was doing. 'Are you alright now, dear?' she asked quietly. |

An eyebrow rose as another person arrived, a man. Who had a horse. She frowned gently, but when did she not? And looked away as one of the girls practically launched herself at him. How inappropriate. She deemed, especially since she had a shiney new wedding ring on her finger. A sigh left her as she looked back to the Guardian. That husky voice came once more. "Can we leave now, please?" She added the please to mask her impatience and to seem a little more pleasant. But really, how long were they going to wait now? Her eyes flicked to the large man, now adorned with birds, and narrowed. She wondered whether or not he attracted anything bigger, stockier. Like a Falcon, or an Eagle. If he did it would mean a sure meal. |

"Ah, at last." The guardian snapped his fingers, the parchment in his hand disintegrating from existence, he knew all the people involve din this journey, it was his business to know, so once he was sure everyone was there he finally waved an arm, "Come along then, no rush, but I'm sure the villagers would like some peace though." He seemed to think on it a moment before shrugging, "At least I think so. It does get boring around here sometimes.." He turned, beginning to walk calmly along the road, cloak flowing about him casually. "Leader of black? .. Well I guess thats sorta right." Lazel chuckled, looking about as the last person came rushing in on their horse before watching Liela latch onto him momentarily. He casually rubbed at his head, smiling lightly. He was glad there was some-one familiar to her around, she did seem somewhat individual and lonely. With that he nudged the gentle giant, "Come, brother, we're finally on our way." Though the young man then went over to his friend Audra, patting her on the shoulder while smirking a little, "Been a long time we actually got to spend time together, Audra, now we've got the entire Pilgrimage and the return trip home." He adjusted his clothes slightly, "What do you think? Not quite the warm skins we grew up in, in Aquesia, but in this climate we'd be baking in those things." |

Kaidel watched as Lazel chuckled at his words. Did he say something wrong? Something funny? He wasn't sure. He simply watched him as he spoke, then felt his nudge to follow. He gave a slight nod; he was ready to begin traveling. He glanced over to his shoulder, at a pair of small birds perched upon it. They were softly chirping a pleasant tune; he liked it. He watched the others meet and greet the other members of the group, staying where he was for fear of startling the hell out of them. He tended to have that effect on strangers. He simply watched, listening only to the whispers of the wind and the chirping of the birds. |

As soon as the Guardian said it was time to leave that is what she did, or atleast tried to. It seemed that a slow pace was prefered. She sighed impatiently and tilted her face up to the sky, hoping the sun would cool her heels. It didn't, and she found herself tense and unsettled as she followed the Guardian close behind. Her eyes took in the path ahead of them, it was long and seemed like it was going to be uneventful. Her adrenaline subsided, running in to tiredness as she pondered the prospects of nothing changing. Nothing getting better. She sighed again, but this time it was a little sad. |

(OOC: nooo my computer just deleted my post!!! must rewrite!) Audra stiffened slightly as Lazel patted her shoulder; it was nothing personal, she didn't like being touched much even by those she knew quite well. She saw the Guardian begin to walk away and at Lazel's mentioning of the Pilgrimage beginning she hefted her staff on her shoulder and followed behind. "It has been awhile.." she said in her usual monotonous tone. It truly had been ages since they had been able to visit so informally. Once Lazel had returned from his travels he'd quickly been pushed into a position of power that had left him sadly unable to have such visitations. Audra too had been busy training for a position she was starting to question would even be open upon her return...after all her brother was there to take it for her. "It will be...nice to catch up." Her voice slightly more animated now. When Lazel picked at his clothing and spoke of them Audra had to look down at her own and smile. "They are not my usual uniform...but they seem quite...useful." As they walked Audra looked behind to the giant, noticing the birds on his shoulders...a most unusual, yet comforting combination in her eyes. "So who is the large one?" She asked Lazel in a quiet voice. "He looks like one of the Giants out of kids fables who protected the founding tribes..." |

The coughing fit subsiding, Tal's head finally clear enough to realize that some one had been standing next to her. Turning a shade of crimson she gave a slight nod in response to the womans question. "I am fine now, Thank you... I just haven't adjusted to this place yet...." She said softly embarrassed at her little fit. Glancing about the group she took a moment to absorb the faces of the people who she was about to embark on the journey with. An odd group but as far as she could tell, one that seemed to know each other to some extent. Brought back to her sense as the group started to leave she held her hand out her mind calling the small breeze back to her hand, not wanting to leave it there in to town. |

Fen smiled gently at the young woman's words and clipped her waterbottle back on her belt after taking a sip herself. She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear and fixed her gaze on the road ahead. From the front of the group she could hear an impatient sigh from the lady who didn't talk much. Odd, she thought. Wasn't the whole idea of this pilgrimage to think on the final destination, instead of dwelling on how long the journey may take? Fen shrugged her shoulders to herself. Perhaps everyone had a different way of dealing with it. She lapsed into a deep silence herself. There weren't any children to amuse with stories, and none of the others seemed to want to talk to her, so why should she waste her breath? Fen figured she would have much need of said breath before long. Quite content with the current situation, she listened to the conversation of the other members of the party. |

Aliela and Jericho walked near the back. It was good to see at least one familiar face here. Besides Lazel, but he didn't count. No matter, it felt like the stupid band on her finger was a tourniquet, and her perceptive blue eyes didn't miss the smiles Lazel and Audra exchanged. Instead, the Aquesian girl focused her attention on her old friend, giving a genuine smile. "It's been a while since we've last seen each other," she spoke conversationally, looking pleasantly up into dark emerald eyes. A blush almost rose to her cheeks, but it didn't. Oh, stupid hormones, she scolded mentally. Sure, she was married, but Lazel was probably flirting anyway. They'd both been forced into this stupid situation, and the only advice father gave her was "please don't kill him, Aliela, give him a chance." Sure, she'd give him a chance, just give her a few years to do it. "A lot has changed in that time for me, but," she held her hand out and glared at the shining ring, "I'm sure your side's more interesting. How have your travel's been going? I presume your ice magic's more powerful?" |

Almost involuntarily, a song bubbled to Fen's lips. She was just in time to stop from singing out loud - she somehow thought her travel companions might not like it, as it was an old, rather gruesome, hunting song -, but couldn't help humming the few first lines. While doing so, she rummaged in her sack and found an apple, out of which she took a bite, and a linnen hat, which she put on her head. It wasn't that her skin was so delicate that it needed protection - after all, she was raised in the mountains -, she just did not like the heat all that much. Before long, she found herself next to the giant man and gazed up at him - and the birds on his shoulders. A faint smile touched her lips. 'You've got some eloquent company, there,' she said softly, hearing their chirping. |

As they walked, Kaidel could hear the whispers of the people around him. They were faint to his ears, but he could make out a few key words, "giant" being one of them. He wasn't surprised; people weren't used to beings like him, and he heard nothing ill from them. Mostly, it was curiosity about him. He ignored it. Soon after, the words of another on their journey seem to reach his ears, and were directed at he himself. He turned to see another member, a smile on her lips, and her kind remark about the fowl perched upon him. "Kaidel no mind. Birds seem to like him. Other animals too. Kaidel not no why, though." |

'I wouldn't mind such a company, either,' Fen said brightly. 'They sing ever so wonderful.' She pulled her hat backwards a bit, so as to get a better view of Kaidel, as his name apparently was. 'I am Fen, by the way.' As she spoke, she held out her hand in greeting. Finally someone who was willing to talk, she thought. Half and half she'd gotten afraid no one would like to exchange words until far in their journey, when they had no other choice. It was good to get to know each other before it was necessary; it saved a lot of trouble, in the least. |

As soon as he had dismounted, he found himself flung onto by the young woman. He barely noticed the sparkling golden band on her finger in her frenzy. He gave her a one-armed hug, more surprised by the sudden greeting he had received. His blue eyes were slightly widened and eventually he broke the hug, "Yeah, it's been a while." He said, in all honesty he was glad to see her too. He was glad to see she was doing fine. Soon they were walking with Jericho and Aliela more towards the back. Jericho was sitting upon the horse again. He looked down at her, having heard about the marriage. It echoed all across the country. He had only heard faint news of an arranged marriage. He wondered if Aliela was a part of it. Well, she was married. "My ice magic is not really that powerful." He said, rubbing the back of his head, "Nothing much has happened, nothing I can think of right now. I have seen some beautiful sights and also some...not pretty ones." Was all he said, trying to think of anything fascinating to tell her, "Well, while i'm thinking of a story I could tell...how has your life been?" Immediately though, he felt that was not a good question to ask. |

"Mr. Zolaunt, you may not continue on with your horse. You must go on foot, just like everyone else." The guardian announced suddenly, he had vanished from his original place at the head of the pack and was now calmly walking backwards not a few steps ahead of Aliela whilst looking up to the young man. An image in the light could be seen, a clean, white beard, yet features still so young, even the reflection of red eyes in the shadows under the cowl. "Ah-ha!" he announced suddenly, pointing at Jericho, "I remember now! You're one of the children of the Brook! I had the honor of guiding a charming young lady of the same origin. Varena Black, I believe? Ferocious little creature she was, but quite a lot of potential, I would expect the same of you." "I'm not sure, but he certainly looks strong. The worker class are like that generally, but he seems to be a warrior by teaching, I think." Lazel thought, staring over at the giant man before looking back to see the Guardian requesting that the lat entrants horse be left behind. It was a shame really but he had heard the pilgrimage was not built for the travel of mounts, to add to it even flying creatures could not find the convocation since it was supposedly hidden within a magic-filled forest. It was all assumptions though, considering those that passed never gave potent information regarding the actual challenges they may or may not face. Lazel placed a hand over his shoulder suddenly, wincing, "Four weeks.. And they're still burning.. I never did get to show you, or even tell you for that matter. When I visited Zepherfol we gathered the final materials to get runes inscribed, they still burn like an eternal flame." |

Audra listened as Lazel spoke, occasionally glancing at the large man. As she sized him up she nodded slightly in approval, she could tell he was likely a good fighter just from where she stood. "I suppose." She said offhandedly to him. She couldn't however tell Lazel about the small pang of jealousy over the birds sitting on the large man's shoulders. She wanted that sort of inner peace, the ability to be serene; however it eluded her quite forcefully...she remembered how when she was younger she would sit with her little brother and mother and try to feed the birds, the birds would come to her mother, and sometimes her brother but never to her. "They can sense how you feel Audra." Her mother had said, "you just need to let go." Her mother couldn't understand that after years of conditioning letting go meant blind rage. Furrowing her brow trying to block out the memory Audra instead listened intently to Lazel, frowning when he touched his shoulder. "Burning...?" She listened as he explained. A twitch of pain rain through her as he explained how he had been "inscribed." branded is more like it... she thought silently. "You are a much braver person than I." She mumbled. |

Aliela frowned at the guardian, her eyebrows contracting sharply. Her mouth was already opened for an argument but Lazel caught her eye for the tiniest moment and she moved away from Jericho's horse so he could dismount. Her husband (she still wasn't used to the term) turned away from her (or was it Jericho he was looking at?) and began speaking to Audra. They were talking in hushed tones earlier. It was hard to miss, especially with Aliela's perceptive eyes. The girl, Audra, had a concerned look on her face and she said something to Lazel that couldn't be made out from where Leela was. She couldn't ignore it completely, though. "It's been fine," she answered, almost as if there wasn't an interruption at all. Aliela watched Amby trotting not too far behind, examining the land with curious wolf eyes. "I've never been outside Aquesia, but you know that," the girl laughed a little. It felt strange. She barely smiled since her wedding was planned, and one familiar face changes it all. Friendship was a strange thing. "It's interesting to see something new, even if the weather does suck." She smiled at her friend, but kept Audra and Lazel within her peripheral vision. He seemed honorable enough. Would he cheat on her, though? Would she cheat on him? Would it matter? They obviously weren't at all suited for each other, but did she honestly think of Jer that way? He was the only friend she'd really had, besides Amby, but was there a huge difference in being a boyfriend and just a male friend? Screw the marriage, she wasn't even of age yet! This was so unfair. Aliela wanted to beat herself up for it, but kept walking silently listening to the conversation and sounds of nature until they made their first stop. |

It seemed everyone had paired up already. What an abismal start, she thought to herself idly. She wasn't allowed to go at her own pace, no one wanted to talk to her and at this rate she probably wouldn't be allowed to even hunt. Why not cut off my arms and legs and tie me to the horse? A breath slowly slid from her nose and she gripped her bow, at least she still had that. [[-Atempts to revive thread with uber short and crappy post of doom!-]] |

Jericho was a little disappointing he could not take his horse, but he figured he understood. Although, what was a man without that faithful steed he used to travel? It was then he turned to the horse and patted him and spoke a simple command, "Go home." It was something he taught to the horse in case of an emergency that occurred to which he could not take the horse home himself. Just like that though, the horse turned and thundered off back towards the stables at home. Jericho could only pray to the divine beings that his horse did not fall to bandits or predators. It was then he turned back to Aliela, "It is good you have been well. I also hope your marriage turns for the better." He said pointing out the wedding ring on her finger. Jericho did not have one himself but he did have his eyes set on a girl back at home(who will not show up here). Maybe someday Cupid's arrow will strike, but for now, Jer wanted to focus on the pilgrimage. Afterwords, he heard the guardian ask him if he was a 'child of the brook'. He turned to the guardian a little puzzled, "Pardon?" Edited by Irisiridescent, 7 Oct 2008, 04:12 PM.

Once Jericho finally got off his horse and sent it running he simply turned away leading the troop on, but he didn't answer the curiosity of the confused young man he had addressed as a Child of the Brook. He practically seemed to dance along in a strange, giddy sense, rather pleased with his position and job, guiding these people was always interesting, they all had stories to tell, some in a more literal sense, and others didn't know just how much they could say. Lazel chuckled, the idea of being a braver person than Audra seemed a little unlikely, at least he had always seen her as being rather brave, if a little rough and tumble, at which point he patted her on the shoulder, "Hey, if you can take on several Ivory thugs without breaking a sweat I'm sure you'd be fine getting a rune inscribed. I saw that fight, you know." Lazel commented, placing his hand on her shoulder and gently pushing at her, "You can get pretty wily, you know? Here, look." Lazel pulled up one of his sleeves, there bearing his shoulder to her. Set into the flesh was a rune and it still glowed as if red hot but this was natural; fresh runes resonated for some time after being poured and sealed into the wound, after that it only did so when activated, "It's not that bad, but the burning takes a long time to go away." After that he dropped the sleeve, carrying on along the road. Eventually the Guardian came to a halt, it was mid afternoon and he was staring up at the sky, though eventually turned to the group of eight, raising his hand, "Alrighty people! How about a little break?" He asked, though it was rhetorical, he began to pace around, looking at the surroundings before finally sighing, speaking aloud, "If only we had a decently trained hunter who could really bring home the meat! Maybe some one who knows how to gather safe food from the forest, that would be most impressive work. Levante smiles on such skillful people, able to feed their friends and family alike." He then looked at the giant of a man, hands on his hips, "As for you, you look like quite the strong man, how much firewood can you gather? Don't go too far though!" He waved his finger as if he giant were being a bad child, "We only need some for now and a bundle for nighttime, a strong fellow like you could take down trees! And that isn't exactly what I have in mind.." |

The Great Immortal.

Kaidel came to an abrupt halt as their little caravan stopped at the whim of the guardian. Hours had passed, and perhaps he assumed they needed to - or should, at the very least - make camp and rest. He heard the needs listed: meat, safe berries and foliage, and wood. Due to his size, the guardian apparently wanted him to bring the wood for the group. Just not a large pile of trees. "Kaidel not like hurting nature, but if it needed. What you have in mind?" he asked, his head tilting slightly in an almost childlike manner. By his words he had something important or special he wanted Kaidel to do, but as to the nature of the task - beyond gathering wood - he could only guess. Guardians were enigmatic things, and the tasks they gave could be anything. |

Fen nervously fingered with a lock of her hair, looking around at the others for a moment before straightening her back. 'I can hunt,' she answered and touched her crossbow as to illustrate that point. 'And skin, and cook, and,... pretty much everything else,...' her voice trailed off, 'like probably almost everyone can,' she added softly and cast her eyes downwards. She had probably been a little too fast with summing up her abilities. There just had to be more suited people for the hunt than her frail, slender little self. |

Hunting? Hunting! Her attention was piqued at that and she couldn't help but step forward, her interest obvious in her smooth face. "I could go for a hunt if you'd like." She didn't express her need to burn of energy, walking so slowly was making her muscle's ache with the need to be running or climbing. Living in a place like she did her body was used to such exercise and adventure. All of this gentle walking was just a nuisance. "If you would prefer a certain animal I will do my best to retreive it." [[Sorry for the short post, I'm not out of my slump yet. X.x]] Edited by Miss Malice, 7 Oct 2008, 10:11 PM.

Audra smirked at Lazel's comments about the fight and thought back fondly on the occasion, it was one of many fights that had led her here. and if the tribal leader hadn't stepped in likely would have caused a conflict... her mood fell slightly, why did guilt always arrive after she'd done something? "That's just the training," she mumbled as she looked over at the rune. "Even if I did have the internal fortitude to do that I doubt I would...too messy." she at last figured out a good way to end her thought on the matter. The Guardian's calls for rest slowed Audra down and she gratefully shrugged her bag off her shoulders and onto the ground, her spear falling end up to stand in the dirt. Yes, she may be used to long treks through the tundra but a break was welcome at any stage in the game. As the Guardian called for people to gather food and wood she figured she would help. "I don't know much about the plants in this area but wood is wood, I'll help gather that if you need it." |

Aliela smiled at her old friend, but walked on absentmindedly. She saw Lazel lift his shoulder cloth once, and her eyes narrowed, but found a glowing... She racked her brain until she found the word. Rune. Yes, so that's what they looked like. She had heard of them but never paid attention enough to recognize one. At first she thought it to be an odd mark. Once they stopped, she looked around, already thinking of a good spot to escape, but a word caught her ear. Hunter. She cleared her throat. "Apparently, Lazel, we have a few huntresses instead, if that's fine," she said, putting an emphasis on the last part. She'd spent her life being told that women couldn't hunt, and she couldn't do certain things because it wasn't proper for an Aquesian girl. "I'd be happy to go, as well," she nodded, looking at the two others who volunteered. |
