Carina made Royce's mother a warm cup of tea, and helped her rearrange the pillows in her bed. She smiled at the old woman. She was sweet, but at the same time it felt like she could read her thoughts like an open book. That book would have been a confusing one to read, though. She was glad because she didn't have to marry Alexander, but at the same time she felt it wasn't the right thing to do to Aime. For after all, wouldn't it be the same? Her self running off after the wedding or Aime running off after the wedding... What was the difference? And she was sure Aime didn't know the proper dances they would dance in weddings or even her whole name. Or any of the others who'd be there. She was getting second thoughts on the whole thing. |

Aime pulled away, putting her back to him as she took a few deep breaths. She couldn't remember the last time she'd had a break down like this. Oh wait, yes she could, she yelled at her mother right before she moved away with her dad. Crying sessions were NOT on the list of things she did everyday. She wiped her tears away with the back of her hand and watched a couple of birds flying away. The ones from earlier, perhaps? Oh, she'd give anything to be like that. "Well, I better get going to the wedding sometime soon," Aime muttered, turning back around. "Would you mind walking me to town at least?" She asked, hoping to exchange a few more words with this gorgeous stranger before all hell broke loose. |

" of course. I'll walk you back to town. The wedding will be starting soon, anyway." Royce responded, extending his hand for her to take. " Shall we walk together?" he beckoned. Will she stay, or will she go? Where exactly is she trying to go? Should i help her go back home? Maybe I should go with her? No... I can't go with her.. I can't leave mother alone. |

"Let's," Aime smiled, taking his hand. They passed by the tiny house without going in. It'd probably be best if Corina wasn't there whilst Aime was pretending to be her. One (or maybe both) of them would be accused of being a witch or something. Once they arrived on the outskirts of town, she let go and straightened her back, her courage building up inside of her while she shed away her nervous shell. Just like she did before a large concert. No one has to know you're nervous if you never show it. They made it to the church and Aime turned towards Royce. "Look, we got off on a weird start but I really do appreciate everything you've done," she said, smiling at him. Aime opened her mouth to say more, but a plump woman with rosy cheeks grabbed her arm. "Miss Corina! The wedding's to start soon! You must have your make up put on now, and, oh, look at that dress it needs to have things added to it! We must get going." The woman barely glanced at Royce as she dragged Aime away helplessly, and she waved goodbye to the man she barely knew. |

he waved goodbye back, as though to say Farewell, and good luck. He almost chuckled that she had been actually dragged away. "Time for me to uphold my duty." he muttered, turning away and beginning to walk back home, almost shedding a tear as the girl she barely knew was dragged away to a place she wasn't meant to be. It's not the same as losing Father... but it's close... Surprising for a woman i barely know.. Though it feels as though we've been friends for the longest time... How strange. he thought, entering the small cottage that was his house. |

Aime didn't whine or protest as she was dragged into an almost bare room. Except for the dozen or so mirrors and various clothing and jewelry strung around. Wow. Corina was... this rich? There were various women running around, taking her dresses off, tightening her corset, making measurements, putting powder on her face, doing her hair, it was dizzying. At last, they finished, and Aime looked in the mirror to a stranger. It looked nothing like her. The green eyes, the blonde hair, the rosy pink cheeks, and... oh, that sad face... It felt like her reflection was a completely different person. "Dearie, don't look so drab, you're beautiful!" And indeed she was, but Aime felt a tear slip down her cheek. "I'm, I'm sorry I'm just so anxious," she said truthfully. Her hands were shaking, and a maiden put beautiful white gloves on them. Aime wondered if Royce was even going to come to the wedding. But then again, why should he? They didn't even really know each other, and she was only doing this for a... a friend? A loud bell rang from the center of the town and Aime found a lump in her throat. The plump maiden from earlier took her arm and began to lead her into towards the church... |

Royce went to his mother's room, once again seeing them talk quite avidly. They seemed to have it covered... after all, who would look here? As far as they knew, Corina was at the wedding. I still don't know if she can handle it... Should i go back? he thought, leaving to go back to the front door, his hand sitting on the knob for the longest time, lost in decision. Finally deciding, he left the building and began to walk to the church, along with the crowd of the lower class citizens that were beginning to gather outside, as they usually did when a high-class citizen was getting married. |

Aime's eyes lit up once she saw a familiar figure, and she beamed. "Perfect day for a wedding, isn't it?" The maiden asked, taking her cheerfulness as something else. "Er, yes," she agreed, nodding towards Royce. The woman helped her through the crowd, though it wasn't necessary. The people backed up as if she had the plague, except they were gaping with open mouths at her. Geez, this didn't happen at present day weddings, did it? Aime was ushered through the double doors. A man she didn't know took her hand. Music began, and she was being escorted down the aisle. Wait, what?! "I'm glad you decided to come, poppet," the man told her, smiling. Aime tried to smile back, but she couldn't fully bring herself to it. Oh god. Her eyes went towards the man she was supposed to "marry". He wasn't ugly, but there was always room for improvement. She walked up to the altar in a trance and the minister was staring at her. It was deadly quiet. She realized she was supposed to say her vows. "Oh, uhm, I'm sorry," she muttered, before repeating what he said. The groom smiled down at her, and Aime grinned awkwardly back. Before anything could happen, all she heard was, "you may now kiss the bride." Oh god. Aime froze. All she could see was his lips coming towards her. Ugh. They were terribly pursed, like a fish. Her nose wrinkled and she began backing up. He was getting closer. Thankfully (thankfully?) a woman screeched out in the crowd and walked to the front. "Witch!" she screamed. Aime blinked. What?! "I followed her out of town, and she changed her eyes and hair! This woman came into the dress shop earlier and changed out of strange black garb!" She cried. It was that little traitor from the store! Her fists clenched, but there were hands all over her. The noise suddenly rose tenfold and people began glancing around anxiously, some exiting, children crying. "Wait, what? I'm not-" Aime sputtered, but the minister gasped. "May god have mercy on your soul, witch," he said, glaring at her. Aime's thoughts were a jumble. The only clear thing was oh shi- |

Trouble... this'll take some quick thinking.. "STOP!" Royce cried, trying to shove his way through the crowd to reach Aime. They weren't being very cooperative, so he drew the mighty broadsword of his father. " Get back, now! or I'll cut you all down where you stand! I demand order in this church!" That got them to shut up. Everyone backed as far towards the wall as the walls would let them, practically squishing together. Royce leaned in to Aime, quietly whispering, " Don't worry. I have a plan to get you out of here. Follow my lead." Returning to addressing the crowd, he continued,"That's more like it. Now, I'm going to take this girl away. Do NOT follow me. I will make sure she is punished for her crimes, I swear upon my honor as a knight." Oh, I shouldn't have said that.. There goes all my integrity.. The crowd gave a shout of approval, and he grabbed Aime in a way that appeared that he was gripping her tight, but in actuality he wasn't. He attempted to make it look like he was dragging her away, hoping she would get the idea and join in the act. |

Aime's eyes widened, not in fear, but in shock. Sort of. He was helping her? Knights were... well, she didn't know much about them but weren't they like, soaring up high in the hierarchy chain or something? "No! Don't - let me go!" she cried. As much as Aime hated her mother, she took this time to thank her for all those acting and improv classes that she was forced to take when she was younger. She struggled against Royce, and he dragged her back, not forcefully, but with a tug and sit sure as hell probably looked like they were struggling. Aime glared and growled at the people in the crowd until Royce dragged her far away and out of sight. She pulled away from him and looked in the opposite direction. "You really didn't have to do it." |

"And let them burn you at the stake accusing you of false witchcraft? I don't think so." Royce responded, putting a hand on her shoulder. "You should know by know that knights don't let those kinds of things happen. Well... perhaps I am the only knight that would do that for you..." Royce also turned away, lowering his head and his arm from her shoulder. " I cannot explain it... I feel a very strong impulse to help, even though i hardly know you..." |

"Just that knight chivalry, I'm sure," Aime said, mostly to herself, but it was loud enough for him to hear her clearly. The sun wasn't over head, anymore, and it was no more than three hours noon. She could tell from all those times they forced her to go kayaking and camping. A lot of things she never cared about were coming back to help and haunt her. Strange. "Ugh, this is useless," she said, plopping down on the ground, her back still towards him. Aime took out the contact lenses and blinked a few times as a tear fell down her cheek. She felt an eyelash and it was bugging her. She was too numb to break down here. The shock had yet to settle in. She put the emerald optics on a random blade of grass. Not like she needed them. Aime then pulled a random string off her corset and tied her hair up. It brought blond locks out of her face and helped her breath. How efficient. Sighing, she yanked off the heels so her shoes were flat, and ripped the tight sleeves off her dress. Much better. It was a pretty gown, but weddings just weren't her thing. "I really didn't see this coming," she said, staring down at her hands. |

"I'm not so sure... It... it doesn't feel like chivalry... No, it wasn't chivalry... Something else was directing me thoughts..." he stopped as he waited for her to finish modifying her dress and self to make it more comfortable for her. "I certainly was not expecting that outcome... I had thought everything would go smoothly... Good thing I decided to come back... they might have had you.." he flinched as he knew what they would have done if he hadn't intervened. " Let's just say it wouldn't have been pleasant." |

"Psh. I'd effing Chuck Norris Roundhouse kick them," she muttered, knowing he wouldn't get the reference at all. Aime closed her eyes and just leaned back into the cool grass. The sounds of villagers were quiet. As if it was a ghost town, now. For some reason, she didn't feel hurried or anxious. She felt calm, numb, bored. She was in trouble, but her mind hadn't processed how much trouble she was in, so instead of going into spazzy overdrive, she just sat there being useless. "Burned at the stake, bathed in hot oil, drowned, suffocated, hanged, dismembered..." she began listing. "Stabbed numerous times, blood loss, beaten to a bloody pulp, squished by a giant, OD'ing, the plague," Aime 'tsk'ed a sort of humourless laugh. Oh, the possibilities. Or maybe the plague wasn't in this time period? She never paid attention in school. Honestly. How'd they kill witches again? Aime kept her eyes closed, trying to convince herself that it was all a stupid, crazy dream. That she had way too much to drink last night and snuggled next to her was a hot boy she didn't know the name of. Maybe she was passed out in a fancy penthouse suite, or taking a calming nap before a big show. Had she fallen asleep reading about England? |

"Who is this.. Chuck Norris?" Royce questioned, confused. She had gone and started using those strange phrases he didn't understand again. "and I wouldn't joke too much about the things they do. It may not seem that serious when it is being inflicted on others, but imagine it happening to you. that is why I had to intervene. I could not idly stand by and watch them do horrible things to you." "Have you never seen it in yourself? Where can you be from that you have not seen these horrible things?" |

"Oh, don't mind me," she sighed, opening her eyes and looking up at him from the ground. "I grew up really, really sheltered," Aime told him honestly, not meeting his eyes. She closed hers again and sighed. "The majority of people where I grow up do. We still have wars, floods, famines, starvation, diseases. The place called America where I grew up is a country full of spoiled, selfish people. Children are only taught what goes on the world, but they aren't taught to care. They bring up the kids to be successful, pampered citizens with good lives. It's horrible how unaware everyone is," she frowned. It was exactly how she grew up. "And then there are people like me who go around making loads and loads of money, using it for selfish reasons and pleasure. If there were less people like me, the world would be a much better place." Aime stopped talking to let her words sink in. He honestly didn't understand how things were. How could he? There were filthy children raising themselves, smelly diseased adults, witches, priests, and everyone knows what's going on. The world really has changed. After a few moments of thinking to herself, Aime got up and shed the large, heavy dress she had on so the simple white garments underneath were exposed. She left the dress on a rock and began walking around the town, right on the outskirts of the forest. She was going back to the tower and she was going to go home. |

Royce stopped to think while her words sank in. she arguably had it worse off than we have it here. He tried to chase after her, he wasn't finished with her yet. He wasn't sure if he ever would be.. "But, if it is so awful in this... America, why would you want to go back?" he questioned. "You could stay and make a better living for yourself, if you didn't like your life back there.." Aime stopped for a moment to consider it, but the thought diminished. "I'm famous," she told him again. "I can't just disappear. My dad's getting older, and my sister would... Oh, I don't know. It's just easier. I know what I'm doing and I love my job." Aime turned to him. "I may have been born and bred a spoiled brat, but that's how I live today and life's easy. I don't have to pay and work my way through life, I have people who do that for me. I - I barely do anything for myself except make a name. And if I go back I don't have to worry about being burned at the steak or drowned for being a witch. I love my life," she said, actually realizing that she did. Aime did grow up pampered and spoiled. Sure there was drama and mistakes, but she was human. And living the way she did, things honestly weren't that bad. "I hate not being in power or in control. I hate it here," Aime scowled. "I know who I am and what I'm supposed to do, but here I'm just a stranger who doesn't belong." She turned towards Royce sadly. There's no way someone like him could adapt to a world like hers. Everything was completely different. He just wouldn't fit in. Instead, she grabbed his hand and silently began walking towards the tower in no hurry. |

Royce stopped, letting his head sag. his midnight-black hair blocked her view of his eyes. If she could, she would have seen eyes filled with sorrow. It was almost exactly the same as father... The painful Memories flooded back once more.. " But father, why must you go! I can't let you fight this war!" "Royce, you've been a good boy, but I know what I must do. I have to fight in this war." " But Father-" " I know, my son. I will return, I promise you..." Royce choked back tears as he remembered the last thing his father had said to him before he left. He lied to me... he never came back. He lifted his head up, eyes watering. "Very well. I'll leave you to go. If i stay any longer, I-" he broke it off, turning away and just leaving. He couldn't hold it in much longer. All those pains as a child were coming back, he had to get out now. |

Aime took a step toward him, her mouth open and her hand out, but she stopped and sighed. When she was sure Royce wasn't near, she kicked a thin tree and cursed, her eyes watering when she stubbed her toe. Idiot! Way to go, driving another boy off. And this was the reason she was never in a relationship for more than a weekend. She sighed. The town was still pretty empty. Were they all in church still? Aime pursed her lips and made her way to the tower. It took her a few times to reach the room she first came in, but she was here! The old kitchen, the pot where the fire was, the mirror... Hope sank. There wasn't any mirror here. Aime bit her lip, looking around the room, banging pots and pans, opening cupboards, moving curtains and clothes to see what was under them. There was no mirror! She began hyperventilating, on the verge of tears, but she slid down a wall and rested her head on her knees, forcing herself to breath. She'd have to figure out something, quick, or get out of town before she was caught and burned or some other thing she didn't want to think about. She wanted to at least set something right. God, they'd be after Corina, now, too! And Royce... Oh, Royce, she didn't even give a formal goodbye... Aime sobbed quietly, realizing that nothing she did today was right. |

Royce panted heavily, he knew Aime was gone now, if she did find a way back, she wouldn't be returning. If she did decide to stay or come and find him again, the best place to look would be his house, so he decided to go back there, despite being on the verge of tears or not. He entered once again, not even bothering to knock. People were slowly leaving the church, some with despairing faces, others content that the witch was being supposedly killed. Royce wanted to break down, but he knew there wasn't a single place he could go where he would have total privacy. Plus, if people saw a knight breaking down, imagine what it would do to his credibility, if it wasn't already tarnished.. |

Aime heard foot steps as people began to enter the tower. Oh, sh- Her brain shutting down, she dived under a table with a cloth hanging over it. It hurt her neck to be under there, and it was a tight space. She pulled her feet in and hoped that no one noticed. Aime went into fetal position and bit her lip, trying to keep silent. A woman spoke- "...just disappeared, the girl!" "I'm sure she's around here somewhere." It was a younger sounding woman. "Would you like help, maybe? I could-" "No! You've got your own jobs to do, get to work!" There was a scared sounding "Yes Ma'am" and then all Aime could hear was the heavy footsteps, coming towards her. Oh god, don't look under here, don't look under... "You!" Aime gasped as the woman lifted the cloth up and grabbed her wrist. Her head hit the table she'd been hiding under, and she fell on her butt with a small "oomph" as a sack of flour began pouring onto her. There was a crash of pots and pans as they spun and fell around Aime. "Look what you've done! You stupid girl!" Aime opened her mouth in protest, but coughed as it simply got filled with flour. The woman hauled her to her feet and handed her a broom. It looked like a witch's broom. "The wedding's over, and so is your break! The knights will be here soon, now get to work!" Aime's jaw dropped as the woman walked out of the room, and she was left staring at an empty bucket and a broom. There were cleaning supplies in the corner. She waited until the woman came back and yelled at her to stop dawdling. Aime, angry, frustrated, and covered in flour, began to fill the pail up with dirty water and began washing it away. |

Royce just remembered that he still had to deliver the patrol's report to the Lord. " Damn.. I had forgotten all about it." not even bothering to put his armor back on, he left once again, this time for the castle to give the Lord his most likely overdue report. Pulling himself together, he announced his coming into the Lord's chambers, and presented the report that nothing out of the ordinary had happened, and that the Wedding witch was indeed dead. "Good work, especially with dealing with the witch. I'm quite impressed at how well you handled it. Although i would suggest to refrain from threatening violence to civilians.." "Ah, sorry my Lord.. i got carried away." Royce said, bowing in apology. "though I must ask.. what were you doing the whole time? The report is overdue by at least five hours." "Ah, my lord, I was tending to my mother. She's quite ill, you know. She can barely do anything on her own anymore." " Oh, I see. Poor woman. I understand. now go and eat with the other knights, you must be famished." "Yes, thank you my lord." Royce left with another bow, and made his way slowly to the dining hall, where the knights were beginning to assemble. Although Royce stuck out in the crowd as he cursed his luck for forgetting to put his armor back on. He sat down to eat, trying to get Aime out of his head. She was probably gone.. He needed to be over her so he could get on with his life... but he couldn't get her out of his mind. Her image stuck to his conscious, refusing to leave no matter how hard he tried. |

"It's about time you got this kitchen cleaned," the woman snapped. "Shake off that flour outside and serve this food to the knights! You can't keep them waiting." Aime sighed and took a semi-clean rag and stepped outside. She shook out her hair, her dress, and took off her shoes. She rubbed the flour out of her skin, but it still felt dirty. Aime sighed and looked into a well. She got water out of it, remembering how Royce did so earlier, and then began rinsing herself off better. In the bucket, she looked down at her rippling reflection. God, her hair was more blond than it was before. Her cheeks were rosy and pink from crying, but her eyes didn't look red around the rims anymore. She looked, once again, like a completely different person. Is this how she managed to evade paparazzi for so long? Shaking her head, Aime walked back into the hot kitchen. "Oh, good, there are you!" It was the younger girl from earlier. Aime remembered her voice. She picked up a covered pot with a ladle in it. "The men all have their bowls ready, but we've still got to serve it. Afterwards, make sure to take the bread out of the oven and collect the spices from the back." "Uhm, alright," Aime said, her head spinning. The girl began banging around pots and pans and zooming around the kitchen. "Well get to work before the Mistress gets angry again!" "Okay, okay, I'm going!" She sighed, exasperated. Aime stumbled out of the kitchen through the bad, creaky door and ignored the looks from the knights. A girl in nothing but an underdress, pink cheeks and covered with flour. At least she was unrecognizable. A couple of men complained when she spilled their soup a bit on the table, and she almost snapped back at them until that stupid woman glared at her before going into the kitchen. Aime sighed and did her job more carefully until she came to a familiar face. Her voice caught in her throat. Oh, god, did he even recognize her? She didn't even recognize herself! "Soup?" She asked quietly, raising an eyebrow at Royce. |
