Hello, hello - smocks on and gather round, gather round! Right... Now first years! Last week, you studied the properties and everything about Umbrella Flowers, and this week we shall be looking at Fluxweed. A plant which is fairly important in the Wizarding World. Fluxweed, also known as Flixweed and Sisymbrium Sophia, is a member of the mustard family and it is know for its healing properties. One use it has is for the Polyjuice potion. Its stem is erect, branched, and 4 to 30 inches high. It was once given to patients suffering from dysentery and called by ancient herbalists Sophia Chirurgorum, "The Wisdom of Surgeons," on account of its healing properties. In German, it is called the Sophienkraut and associated with Saint Sophia of Rome, who was invoked against late frosts. (Source: Wikipedia) HOMEWORK 1) How much Fluxweed is needed to make the Polyjuice Potion? 2) How high is the stem at max? 3) How high is the stem at minimum? 4) Why was it given its name?
