Swap meshes inside the same package (xxx) (adapted from digitaloverdose's ps3 version from psx-scene.com: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f277/mortal-kombat-9-modding-more-85294/index229.html#post932781)

Use umodel to get the exporttable for the sizes and offsets:
Code:

umodel -list CHAR_scorpion

Look for "SkeletalMesh":

Now open up in a hexeditor the decompressed CHAR_scorpion.xxx

How to swap skeletalmesh "meat_male" (B05BF0) with skeletalmesh "scorpion" (C6E8B6):

Search for the hexvalues F05BB0 from meat (endianess thing reverse values)

Now look a few bytes back you will see also the hexvalues B39706

So now we have:
Code:

00 B3 97 06 00 F0 5B B0

Do the same search for skeletalmesh scorpion and you will find:
Code:

00 57 33 17 00 B6 E8 C6

Swap them... done:

Some issues arise (feet in ground, animations broken):

Sheeva's Fatality may crash the game (you need a skin on that body for it to work)

@Moddah

Amazing work mate, so now we have access to meshes as well, excellent and thank you for the hard work.

Btw you saw my issue in this post

http://w11.zetaboards.com/SFxT_Mods/single/?p=8091251&t=8465135

Any idea what I might be doing wrong or is there any other problem ?

Character MIC and Character_AP_MIC that I didn't edited were changed in the process (MIC=Material Instance Constant, I don't know what that means)

Reflection_MIC and Reflection_AP_MIC that I didn't edited were changed in the process
Spoiler: click to toggle

Reflection seems to be a low poly model used for reflection (mirror/water etc...?):

Scorpion Cowl shows as edited (red) but not ingame:

@BrutalAce: I think you need to edit the specular as well (Scorpion_Spec), I'm still testing with those files. ;)

@Moddah

Yes I saw that post and I also did the same, edited only scorpion_diff but for some reason it is like blending the old color with new color, it's not replacing it. Everything is looking fine too in Umodel so I have no clue what might be wrong.

Heads up: seems like my tool isn't injecting the hair textures for some reason. I'll throw it in my list of changes to do.

@BrutalAce
In the pic I showed I only modified the the _diff but there's still a slight red where the light hits.
Maybe Scorpion's specular is just stronger than Skarlet's and you need to edit that as well.

Yep, I tried to edit all Scorpion textures, to make a everthing in black but just got a Darken scorpion (still in yellow clothes) with glowing swords -_-

@everyone: Have you looked at/edited the Alpha channels?

Gonna test that next.

Yes I checked Alpha, black alpha results in darker color and white Alpha makes everything loose color and glow bright white, anything between black & white result in little difference.

I also tried editing Specular map and painted same gray color on yellow parts but it didn't made any difference, in fact some parts started glowing bright white for no reason.

EDIT:

I'll check specular maps more thoroughly tonight.

Some info on transparencies/diff's alpha channel from futuretime23 on psx-scene.com (http://psx-scene.com/forums/f277/mortal-kombat-9-modding-more-85294/index385.html#post1070379)

i asked tetzrep about transparencies,since the normal diff char textures alpha channels control what parts get colored alternatively,while the damage diff controls the transparencies,he told me he got his files messed up,etc. he is going to tell me(eventually,i suppose,when he can) how do you trigger those transparencies.

edit: more mesh swapping tests (XRay_Male) :D (weird how scorpion's sword is on the floor between the 2 characters from the beginning of the match (no move done) the chain extends from that point wherever you are placed on the stage (it doesn't show if it's behind the opponent))
