With our sights set on multiplayer support in the near future, we are seeking to implement a temporary server for the game that can run twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. We are asking if a community member in possession of a second unused computer would be willing to lend its use to us for the hosting of such a server. This would allow us to avoid the financial cost for the time being of hosting this kind of server.

Please reply below or contact either MYRM Miner or myself personally if you are interested in helping. Thank you for any and all of your help in advanced.

I'd offer up one of my spare machines as a permanent server, however I really don't have the internet bandwidth to support such a thing.

That being said what sort of specs are we looking at.

Why not get a DigitalOcean droplet (or something similar from any cloud host)?

Given about three months, I could offer a server. My college roommate has several server machines that are reasonably powerful, and we are going to move out of the dorms for our next semester so that he can actually host things without being blocked by our dorm's internet security settings. Unfortunately, I have no real solutions in the meantime, but basically a 99% guarantee of having as much server power as we would need, given that we can wait till then.

Just to specify, unless the multiplayer server is significantly resource-intensive (Which I don't think it really would be), this would be free, and if it did require a decent chunk of space, it wouldn't be much to pay for anyway. (Certainly less than everyone paying memberships to Jagex every month)

Please respond/message me if you have any questions! :)

That's fantastic, dew. In the mean time Myrm will be able to use his own PC to host the server, but the goal is to have a relatively efficient server that anyone can go onto at any time for beta testing purposes without us having to fork over a monthly fee just yet.
