HistoryBorn on the Kel Dor planet Dorin to Jedi parents, Sae was unlike most others of his species. He was not raised as a usual Kel Dorian given his heritage, instead being trained from an early age to control his abilities in the Force and begin practicing with a training lightsaber his father had borrowed from then-Grandmaster Sirys Kornik, one of the few Anzati who followed the ways of the Jedi. By the time he was in his teens and fully physically formed, young Sae was already a capable Force user. He was grafted a mask suited to him and returned to the Republic capital of Coruscant. It did not take long for the young Kel Dor to be taken under Grandmaster Kornik's tutelage.
The next twenty or so years were spent honing him into the image of Jedi perfection- Skilled with a lightsaber, fluent in the use of the Force, and a trained strategist as well as a diplomat. During his time here he also encountered another well trained Padawan by the name of [Zurrag's character]. The two trained together at every possible opportunity, though they clashed occasionally when it came to ideology and preferred methods of accomplishing tasks set by their superiors. One night, following a particularly heated argument which nearly came to blows, Sae awoke to find that [Zurrag's character] had left.
By the time he was Knighted, the Council had made a point of keeping their attention on him to fill one of the newly opened seats. He went on to prove himself in combat and in peace time, though his Master sometimes worried that he focused a little too much on the martial path. Sae spent a lot of time among the Republic troops and on the battlefield, though he claimed it was simply because of his latent Battle Meditation that they had discovered early on.
During this time, the war between the Empire and the Republic had been heating up almost irreversibly. Entire systems were falling to Imperial might only to be fought back again by the Republic's siege tactics. Many innocent lives were being lost in what the Kel Dor Jedi believed to be utterly meaningless and pointless destruction. He pleaded with the Council numerous times to pursue a more active position in the war, to end it as soon as possible. The Council was often split on the decision, leading to the final decision being left to the Grandmaster. Each time his Master debated with him for extended periods over the benefits and negatives that could be derived from this, but never in a teaching way. The two saw each others' views with respect and curiosity each time.
Inevitably however, each and every time Sae would back down and apologize for his rush to action. He often saw the wisdom in the Grandmaster's words by the end of things, repealing his proposal. That was until Corellia was struck.
Corellia had long been a beacon of Republic spacial superiority, being the home of the Corellian Engineering Corporation for high class transports and the Corellian citizenry for natural pilots. When one of their drydocks were hit by an Imperial bombing mission, Sae once more brought up the proposal of an offensive. This time however, he had an edge- They'd received information of an Imperial ground assault led none other by the Dark Lord of the Sith himself.
The Council at this point could stand by no longer, taking a vote in majority favour of allowing the Knight to lead a Republic defense force against the Dark Lord's offensive. Sirys was understandably cautious about this act, taking his former Padawan aside to explain to him the gravity of the situation and what harm such an act could cause if they are unsuccessful, and even if they did succeed asking what he hoped to accomplish.
Sae responded plainly and clearly enough, having taken his former Master's advice previously into account- Without a Dark Lord, the Sith would experience a power vacuum that would weaken them long enough for the Republic to push the Empire back and gain a true chance of ending the war with as little innocent bloodshed as possible. Sirys gave the Kel Dor Jedi Knight another look over before nodding his acceptance, and allowing his former student onto the troop transport.
The battle was taking place in a Corellian valley where the Imperial garrison was set up. The Republic forces broke through the back as Knight Jek took down the shields surrounding their armaments. The demolition squad targeted and destroyed the warehouses storing the Imperial ammunition and explosives, thereby halting any chance of a full scale attack any time soon. As soon as this happened, they performed an assault on the base and began wiping the Imperial forces out. Sae held back until his target appeared, meditating to strengthen his troops reflexes and resolve and to preserve his strength.
Eventually, the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Agonist entered the battlefield. His powers were immense, crushing the Republic soldiers like paper and deflecting everything coming at him with a field of energy. He quickly detected the source of the troops' increased abilities, tracking down the Jedi Knight immediately and striking from above.
The Kel Dor species however is quite well known for their reflexes. The Knight evaded the blows of the Sith and struck back with equal parts disciplined training and honed determination. Without the Dark Lord to aid them, the Imperial forces soon fell and the base was secured by the Galactic Republic. The squads then moved on Sae's position. The Dark Lord, distracted by the Jedi Knight, didn't sense the troopers on his rear until it was too late. He heard the blasterfire, spinning to deflect, but turning back too late to halt Sae Jek's move impaling him through the gut. He followed up quickly with a decapitating strike, and the Dark Lord fell.
Simultaneously, he felt a wave of loss wash over him. The Knight peered around, attempting to get a sense of the situation when he realized what he had just lost- His master, the Grandmaster of the Jedi, had been killed. When he returned to the Order, he discovered that Sirys Kornik had been assassinated by none other than [Zurrag's character], the apprentice of the Dark Lord by this time. Such a mirroring effect shattered any empathy the Knight held for Sith victims any longer, and he made a move in the Council to fully support the Republic in a military capacity. Without Sirys there to argue against it, it became a unanimous agreement.
Following this, Sae was not only granted a seat on the Council as a Master, but given notice that his tactical efficiency and ability to rally those around him as a leader made his nomination for Grandmaster in the footsteps of his former mentor unquestionable. A vote was taken, and he was granted the seat within a few months.
Since then, the Empire has receded from full view for one reason or another which Sae finds unusual- If they were in a state of flux due to a loss of leadership, they'd be making bigger and more idiotic moves rather than hiding. The Republic has quelled militarily somewhat, choosing to focus on defending their current systems rather than engage in all out warfare again if it's unnecessary, and the Jedi Order has moved into a position to back them in this endeavour. How long this lasts however will be determined soon enough, though for Grandmaster Sae Jek, it feels like it is already an endless conflict.
