I'm starting my exobiology project ![]() It's an earth-like planet (I'm really bad with other air-compositions and stuff, so it's earth like :P), called Defteros. |

This is an unfinished "list" of the plant analogues of Defteros. EDIT: Aaargh, my list isn't working correctly. I'll change it tomorrow, because i'm in a hurry ![]() EDIT #2: I made a word document, hopefully it works. Edited by Olympianmaster, Sep 22 2013, 11:21 AM.

Explain these plants, they sound interesting ![]() Besides, so few people have the expertise to speculate about plants... |

I'll explain them, don't worry ![]() But I don't have really much expertise on plants, to be honest. |

Antlertrees: Antlertrees, together with bulbtrees, are the tree analogues of Defteros. Their shape is similair to the antlers of a deer, hence the name. They are simple organ-plants, meaning that they only have a simple heart. This heart is located at the bottom of the trunk, a just underground. The purpose of this heart is to pump water, nutrients and other important substances through the antertree itself, through a network of veins. These trees start their lifes as a little knob above ground, with a heart and roots undergroud. They'll grow really fast, in this growing period the tree is encased in a soft, velvet like tissue/substance with veins running through it, delivering water and other needed substances to the growing trunk. When the trunk is fully grown, the tissue falls of, and creates fertile ground for a short period of time, which will attract other plants. The trunk consists of a soft, sponge-like inside, protected by hard, strong, bone-like bark. After the tissue has fallen of, the trunk stops growing, and horsetail leaves (as they are called) start growing. These leaves are long and thin, shaped like small tubes, ending in hair like appendages (better described as looking like the tail of a horse, but greener). These "hairs" are covered in spore like seeds. |

Bulbtrees: Bulbtrees, together with antlertrees, are the tree analogues of Defteros. They are similair to antlertrees; their trunks are made of the same substance, called antlerwood, and most species are also simple organ-plants, having only a heart. There are many differences though. Their trunk is straight, with many branches, they have fern-shaped leaves. Some species are more complex organ-plants, having a small brain to change the colour of their bulbfruit. These colour-changing species use this ability to change their bulbfruits colour into the colours of a poisonous species, to warn off predators. These fruits are round, and are filled with a fluid, the fluid is filled with spore-like seeds. Bulbtrees mostly fill up forests and rainforests, while antlertrees are found on savannahs, mountains and tundra. |

Interesting. So how high can they grow? One of the reasons trees have a height limit, if I remember correctly, is that there's a limit to how far capillary action can move substances. A heart, especially a large one, would help with that problem. |
