I think that it is a good idea to have a thread here involving people critiquing certain ideas before they become fully-fledged projects. I will post here one idea of mine:

interesting idea is like praying mantises, but worse for males, chastity would be necessary. a question are you a Giant blue anteater on deviantart? |

Interesting. However, I would think that males that could reproduce with many females would be at an advantage, or at least have enough of one in some cases that they wouldn't all reproduce by eating each other. |

In anglerfish, multiple males can be attached to the females (up to six, I think). Indeed, I think it would be more advantageous evolutionarily to be able to mix your genes with multiple individuals' instead of just one. To do that, a female would eat multiple males and store their testes in their gut-derived compartment. However, some species (the more "advanced" ones if you will) could evolve a method of reproduction that involves males just dropping one of their protected testes into the mouth of a female, thus dispensing with this eating thing. By the way, what do you think of this explanation for how the ingested testes escape death and digestion? The testes are wrapped with a thick protective membrane separate from the rest of the body, the testes have heavy supply of glycogen or a similar substance so that they do not die from the lack of oxygen after being cut from their owner's bloodstream until they reach the pouch? |

is an interesting way to keep the males. could re-grow the gonads? by the way, I imagine some some kind of evolutionary strategy that females may ingest the gonad, for example, they might have my flashy colors, or some kind of scent producieran that for females is delicious Edited by dragontunders, Oct 11 2013, 03:46 AM.

The ones that simply expel one of the gonads from the cloaca into the female's mouth, possibly. Otherwise, no gonads could be regrown with the male done for in the jaws and then the stomach. Indeed, I think creatures with such a mode of reproduction would likely have males with attractive displays and signals. I think the converse could also happen; the horde of males flock to the most beautiful female, and then compete to get eaten by her. Edited by Cyrus Theedishman, Oct 11 2013, 04:55 AM.

I love the idea of this and to me at least, it seems quite plausible. |
