This is a member of the deer-hog family.A family of deer like pigs from Hawaii. They range from 10-80 kg , but this specie is only 50 kg. |

I think something went wrong in your post ![]() Nice picture, though can you explain a bit more about deer-hogs, like from what they descended (Deer or hogs?) and their behaviour and stuff. |

How exactly did we cause the oxygen level to drop by 25% of its current value? Because if it was due to the combustion of fossil fuels, forget K-T, pretty much everything would be dead. |

As the acid rain kills most of the plants of the region where it falls and the carbon dioxide levels increase , the oxygen levels fall.Life can survive in 16% oxygen levels and in 15% I think only small animals could survive.Pigs could easily start getting smaller in the isolated regions where they survived (Hawaii , Chatham islands , Indonesia , Australia and Africa) cause of their fast breeding rate , but the camels would probably go extinct so I'll make them extinct.

Well deer-hogs are descended from the introduced pigs of Hawaii (pigs survived in Africa , Australia , Indonesia , Hawaii and Chatham islands). They're endemic to Hawaii and in there they fill the niche of deer [(the niche of goats is taken by introduced wallabies)(pigs in Hawaii have filled the niches of deer , large herbivores and also some carnivores , even thought mongoose descendants are the main predators)].Only the males have the little hornlets in the eyebrows and they use them for display (the bigger the hornlets , the healthier the male). They live in herds of 7-30 members (the small species tend to have larger groups) , but some species live in harems where one male dominates. They have a 2 chambered stomach (they have evolved a second chamber for better ruminantion , but not 3 chabers like camels , or 4 chambers like ruminants , cause in Hawaii there are mostly forests , deer-hogs are browsers and since leafs are easier to digest than grass , they haven't evolved their stomach that much) , the upper incisors have enlarged (so it can chew better) , the lower ones became much straighter (not pointed out of the mouth for digging , but much straighter so they can cut vegetation with their incisors) , the molars have adapted to chew plant matter and the tusks have shrunk (they still remain for display purposes). P.S Where did you see the image? |

em, here I do not have any sense, if rain can kill plants but not kill them all so it causes a decrease of oxygen. perhaps increase the carbon dioxide. I think this overestimating the power of a mass extinction caused by man. moreover, if oxygen decreases, the extinction would be more similar to the Permian, which to extinction K / T. also, the size would not only be a determinant for the survival of the species, if you try to reduce the levels of oxygen, it would also be deciding how organisms breathe |

If it did increase the carbon dioxide levels, a large fraction of that would be due to rotting plant matter. Size does matter to some extent, but it matters far more for creatures like insects than creatures with lungs, which, if they can adjust to the difference in partial pressure in oxygen on high mountains, can probably adjust to oxygen levels decreasing. |

also, there is something you feel, just mentioned only about polution, and I'll be frank, it is not the only thing that is causing the deterioration of the planet, is also deforestation, hunting, pest, ect. these factors are important in not including |

Of course they are one of the causes of the mass extinction. Also , today is Clawfiren's (in deviantart) birthday. |

I really just have a general problem with the premiss of the extinction event in and of itself. I really doubt that we humans are going to keep on doing exactly what we're doing. In fact, it doesn't really make sense that we will as we already know how bad what we're doing is, and we are already taking steps to change it. Right now, Western Society, the primary polluters, is primarily composed of corporatist governments that tell people what they want to hear about the evil of big corporations while they bail these corporations out on the taxpayers' tab or sign legislation into law that protects them. The United States is ripe with examples of this, but so too is Europe. It's the primary reason that new ideas and technologies are getting squelched right now, because there exists no free market for these ideas to come to fruit. Aquaponics farming is a wonderful example of something that could change how we humans interact with our environment entirely. But, because there are already huge farming corporations in place who are in bed with the government at every level, it is all but impossible at the moment for it to have its full effect. But I don't think that things will always be the way that they are now at all. |
