Sardinia gov to use gender-specific text Part of new simplification law approved by regional government ![]() (ANSA) - Cagliari, October 12 - Sardinia's regional government has approved a new law on simplification that calls for enacting "non-discriminatory language respectful of gender identity" in all official communications, including correspondence, job titles, and legal and administrative documents and proceedings, ANSA sources said on Wednesday. Within six months of the law's entry into force, the region must issue guidelines for application of the new regulation. As an example, where previously only masculine nouns were used, such as 'sindaco' for mayor, when the role is performed by a female the new regulation calls for using the feminine noun, in this case 'sindaca'. The law's text also calls for "promoting a new linguistic conscience" to include revising "judicial and administrative language in acts, measures and communications". photo: Sardinian Governor Francesco Piglaru Edited by Raingirl, Oct 13 2016, 09:49 PM.
