You become aware of darkness; a heavy weight chocking what little breath you manage ti take in through the horrid stench of rot making you not want to breath at all.

How did this happen? What's going on?

Then you start to remember. The caravan. You had hired on has a scout and healer to help round out the caravan's crew. You recall the trip. There was some action but you had always missed it, getting there to late to help in the fight; the wounds minor, the scouting non-taxing.

The last morning you can clearly recall, everything was going normal. Breakfast, camp broke down, the group moved out. Then.....was it mid-morning? Early afternoon? It's all such a blur...You were in the middle of the train, talking and joking with other guards and drafters when there was a cry from the front of the train. Then the rear. Suddenly arrows started raining down amongst you. The drafter took an arrow to the neck; the oxen panicked and ran. You tried to run after it but that's when it happened. Just before you and two of your colleagues reached the cart, the men in front of you took a fatal volley when an unnatural drowsiness took you stumbled and fell to the ground, blacking out as your dead companions fell on you.

That's when you hear the voices, feel the weight shifting. To Xenor, the voices are just clicks, yips and growls. Malborn, you recognize Titanspeak.
"This blows!" A second voice dripping with sarcasm adds, "Yeah.....we're doing all the work while the sergeantjust stands there..." A third says, "Yeah, we toil and sweat...he stands there hoping to find some shiney or bauble for Grax."

With that, the weight and the hideous odor is lifted from you. The light is almost blinding but thank the gods you can breath and it's mostly fresh. You suck in a deep, cleansing breath. You hear startled squeaks; when you lift your heads up and look around you see three small reptilian humanoids that you recognize as kobolds. Behind them trying to look commanding is a short, squat humanoid with orange hued skin. From family stories and anatomy classes, you both recognize this one is a goblin.

What do you do?

Xen and Mal have gotten to their feet and prepared their defense. After gaining their feet, the goblin has ordered the kobolds to kill the party but is holding back. The kobolds gave wild swings when unsheathing their weapons, striking Xen and Mal for 1hp in damage each. Recovering from the poorly timed swing, Xenor took a mighty swing with his mace and brought it down squarely on the head of the kobold in front of him. Blood and brains leaking from every hole in his head and a couple new ones, it falls to the ground dead.

Upon seeing the death of one of his troops the Sergeant gives a snarl and walks up to confront Xenor, swings and misses badly. The kobolds have shifted their focus. The one on Xenor's left makes a jab with his sword and is stopped by his armor. The other kobold, will keeping a wary eye on Mal swings at Xenor and finds a chink in his armor, hitting him for 2hp in damage.

Mal, what do you do?

Sadly, Mal seems to be suffering after effects of the magic because he's misses his goblin again and has chosen to fight defensively.
What do you do Xenor?

xenor turns to the kobold that swung at him and hurt him growling as he swung, calmer now having returned to his reserved demeanor though no less eager to rush these titanspawn through the gates.

(roll d20 17+ 3 = 20) (damage 1d8 6+3= 9)
