Final Fantasy VII: Screams of the Planet is a character driven, AU, play-by-post RP set slightly before the events of the original game, during the days of the original AVALANCHE. Take up arms as either the Eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE, the Wutai Resistance Group, a member of ShinRa, be it soldier or director - or simply seek out your own path as an unaligned character.

We offer a simple level and stat system to show the difference in power between characters, a Materia system to explore and the ability to create your own Limit Breaks, a central element of Final Fantasy VII! Create your character any way you want, as hero or villain, SOLDIER or Materia Hunter, anything is possible!

General rules

  • Don't act like a mod - helping other players is encouraged, but you are not allowed to hold any authority over other members.
  • No racist, sexist, homophobic, or other derogatory slurs will be tolerated.
  • No Porn - Posting any 18+ material, visual or otherwise, will result in instant banning of your account. If you are unsure as to whether or not a picture you would like for your character is appropriate, ask a mod.
  • No posting about animal abuse, child abuse, or any other seriously sick thoughts.
  • Never ask for stuff that needs to be deserved - that only makes your chances smaller.
  • Have fun! ^-^

Character Specific rules

  • No powergaming; this involves controlling another's character, as well as playing your character beyond their ability. If you are unsure whether or not an action counts as powergaming, ask a mod.
  • No metagaming; this means your character should not magically have knowledge of things, just because you have it.
  • When posting in threads with other people, please be patient and wait for others to post instead of rushing ahead. In threads of 2-3, it is socially acceptable to skip a persons "turn" when they haven't posted for at least 3 days, unless agreed otherwise with the players themselves. In groups of 4+, the order can be more mixed, but we'd like to see that a person waits for at least 2 posts to be done before he posts again, if not agreed otherwise. This rule does not apply on people whose characters are in the same thread, while being at separate places IC.
  • All in-character posts should be written in third person, past tense.
  • Original characters only.
  • If your character should be so unfortunate, unlucky, or plain stupid to die, your character will be lost.
  • You must keep a list of links to your character' profiles in your signature.
  • Characters must be a minimum of fifteen years of age.
  • Character you control may interact, however, they do not give the Group or expanded group bonus. Instead, if a thread is made up entirely of your characters, it will count as a single.
  • All IC posts should be a minimum of 100 words.

Threads

Threads are what moves the site forward. It is where everything happens. On Screams of the Planet, there are two kinds of threads: Groups and Singles. When finished with a thread of either type, post a link to it in the modifications forum for evaluation and reward. Below you will see a brief description of what the two thread types are all about:

Group
Groups are threads done with other people. In order to encourage character interaction, and to make up for possible slowing of threads due to longer waiting times, all characters in a social gets +1 free EXP point for each person above two present in the thread. During evaluation, a social gives anything from 1-5 EXP.
Single
Singles are like Groups, except done alone and yield a smaller amount of EXP, with 3 being the maximum. Instead they can be used for character development when needed.

Leveling Up

Once your EXP levels reach a specific amount, your character will Level Up. You will then be given an amount of stat points to place in your stats. The amount of EXP needed to level up is based on one's current level. An example of the EXP scaling is shown in the table below:

Current LevelEXP to Level Up
110 EXP
213 EXP
316 EXP
And so on...And so on...

By this, it can be seen that for every level a character rise to, 3 more EXP is needed for the next level. This means levels will come relatively quick to begin with, though will eventually end up taking more time to gain.

The amount of Stat points earned each level is 10, except for the first, starting, level, in which the character gains 20. The first point is always free. Stats can never go higher than 255.

Like your character, Materia may level up as well. As you gain EXP, you will also gain AP for your materia. The amount is half the amount of EXP gained, rounded up.

Example: Cloud gains 5 EXP in a group thread he just did. This gives him a total of 3 AP for his Materia, as 5 divided by 2 is 2.5, which is then rounded up to 3.

As Materia level, you will gain new abilities and spells. All owned Materia benefit from the AP. Materia bought will always start at lvl 1.

The Stats

On Screams of the Planet, the characters have a total of 6 stats. These stats show the difference in power between different people, though they are only a guideline and never a concrete rule. Below are explanations on the 6 stats:

Strength: Your character's physical power and strength. The higher this stat, the harder they hit.
Dexterity: Your character's physical speed and reflexes. The higher this stat, the quicker and more evasive your character is.
Vitality: Your character's physical endurance and stamina. The higher this stat, the longer the character can fight before getting exhausted.
Magic: Your character's ability to work magic. The higher this stat, the more powerful most of their spells will be.
Spirit: Your character's amount of spiritual energy, or Mana. The higher this stat, the more spells they can do before getting exhausted.
Accuracy: Your character's aim. The higher this stat, the easier the character has at hitting long distance targets, or striking precisely at small targets.

Character Creation

All characters begin play at level 1, no matter their line of work and faction. Characters may begin play as anything except SOLDIER members, which is only for chosen characters. This means they may start play as upper rank AVALANCHE members, ShinRa and Wutai soldiers. This changes nothing in the character's starting level, but may add increased leadership burdens, so be sure you're ready for it before signing up as an officer, or even a ShinRa director.

Below you will find the starting traits of the different possible starting jobs:

Materia and Materia Slots

Materia is a core element of the Final Fantasy VII world. Using Materia enables a character to wield magic, However, in order to effectively carry Materia around to use, a character needs Materia Slots. Materia Slots can be placed into weapons and armor for easy access, though any one item can only hold a certain amount of Materia, shown by the table below:

SizeMaximum number of slots

MediumPosted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image
LargePosted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Earning Gil

You earn Gil by posting, and so your income will depend on how much you post. Simply put, the amount of Gil you recieve for each thread is equal to the number of post you've made in a thread x 10. This will be calculated by the Mods while they give thread evaluations.

SOLDIER

If you are a soldier of ShinRa and continuously do well on thread evaluations and RPing in general, you may be asked if you wish to join SOLDIER. SOLDIER members are top class soldiers who have been subjected to Mako, and because of this show abilities slightly above those of their level. If you join SOLDIER, you will be given:

  • The SOLDIER 3rd Class Uniform
  • A free Longsword with two Materia Slots
  • A permanent +2 boost to all Physical stats (Strength, Dexterity and Vitality)

As you continue your work for SOLDIER, your status and rank may rise, until you finally reach the legendary 1st Class.

Limit Breaks

Limit Breaks is abother central system in Final Fantasy VII, and so of course it will be represented on this site. Limit Breaks are unique and powerful abilities each character can tap into a certain amount of times per thread. You may create your limit breaks as soon as the character using them has been acceptec, making only the ones you can use, or preparing all seven is up to you. Your Limit Breaks will then have a link to them on your character sheet.

The number of times you can use a Limit Break each thread depends on your current Limit Level. At first, you can only use your first Limit Level 1 Limit Break once per thread, but as you rise in Limit Level, you gain additional "uses". For example:

Cloud is at lvl 10, gaining him a new Limit Break, meaning he has two Limit Level 1 Limits. However, until he reach Limit Level 2, he can only ever use one of them once per thread.

However, should he reach lvl 20 and gain his third Limit Break and thereby rise in Limit Level, he can use a Limit Level 1 Limit twice in total. However, he can only use his Limit Level 2 Limit once per thread.

Now let us say he reaches lvl 60, gaining all Limits. This means he can use any Limit Level 1 Limit 4 times; a Limit Level 2 Limit 3 times; a Limit Level 3 Limit 2 times and a Limit Level 4 Limit once per thread.
