This thread will be where a crow speaks of life, and of what it knows of life.
Crows are considered highly intelligent, but they are not. They have, instead, something far more useful than intelligence. An ability to interact, directly, with Reality.

Intellect processes sensory input. Therefore, what intellect creates of the input is an artifact that stands-in for Reality. Not the Reality, itself.

A crow can help humans cut out the middleman, thereby enabling humans to do what a crow naturally does: Live.

Crows like to answer questions. If you have one, please ask.
"Squawk!" said the crow, and then made space.

What is courage? Where does it come from?

It's always there. Covered over and buried by fear. Get your power-washer out, blast away the fear, and there it is, shining, beautiful, and indestructible.
Nobody is fearful, as a new-born. Being born is a courageous act. Then fear is learned, usually from humans.
Most never escape it after that.
I have. You can.
Go for it.
"Squawk!" said the crow, and then made space.

Is there anything useful about the ego?
How does one overcome fear?

Ego is great when you're 14. Other than that, no. Ego is thoroughly counterproductive.
I could tell you how to overcome fear, but the story would probably scare you to death.
There must be easier ways to do it than the way I did it.
Simply put: I have done it. Therefore it can be done. Remember: fear has no substance. It isn't real.
Without it, you do everything better. Far better.
Meditation goes a long way towards the cure. The deeper you go, the more accepting you become.
Acceptance is useful when nothing you can do will change the outcome, so the outcome will just have to be whatever it is, while you calmly sit back, trust in Reality, and await developments.
You'll be amazed at what you can achieve.
Even if you didn't achieve anything, you'd still be amazed.

Somebody asked me why I am a crow.
I had to consider this, for a moment, since it isn't especially clear...

First: I am God's creation, although I do not know it.
Then: I am a human ego.
Then: I am a human ego seeking my Soul.
Then: I realize I am not my ego, I am my Soul.
Then: I discover my Soul is Godlike.
Then: I know God is the sum of all Souls.
Then: Enlightened, I disappear into Dharma.
Then: I choose to be a crow.
Then: I amuse myself trying to explain why.

I learned more, in one shot, from a crow, than I ever learned from any human.
This being so, I place crow right up there with The Great Masters.
Emulation is a good start to becoming what you emulate.
Knowing what I know about crows, there's nothing else I'd rather become.

There. Best I can do.

Apropos of Jethro Tull...

"Whenever I get to feel this way,
Try to find new words to say,
I think about the bad old days
We used to know.

Nights of winter turn me cold
Fears of dying, getting old.
We ran the race and the race was won
By running slowly.

Could be soon we'll cease to sound,
Slowly upstairs, faster down.
Then to revisit stony grounds,
We used to know.

Remembering mornings, shillings spent,
Made no sense to leave the bed.
The bad old days they came and went
Giving way to fruitful years.

Saving up the birds in hand
While in the bush the others land.
Take what we can before the man
Says it's time to go.

Each to his own way I'll go mine.
Best of luck in what you find.
But for your own sake remember times
We used to know."

"Emulation is a good start to becoming what you emulate." A bit like The Eagles Hotel California with Jethro Tull's song.
