The senses are an enigma to me sometimes. I used to indulge them to no end, and my brain thanked me for it (or so I thought) Now it has become apparent that those same organs which helped to see and take in the world could become a curse. Through the process of the mind and it's endless pursuit of abstract interpretations. The endless addiction for novel 'ways of seeing'. And through the eyes especially, which are a gateway to the mind and later a poison to the soul. As terrible as it may sound, I sometimes believe there could be great virtue in being blind. But of course in that situation I guess some new poison would re-manifest itself. And we all have our own specific trials originating in our inherent strengths. |

Well observed. But not with the eyes. This is the paradoxical nature of LSD and related hallucinogens: its users are prone to equating elevated consciousness with something seen with the eyes. "Great visuals, man", springs to mind. True consciousness operates beyond the senses. The senses serve to get one by in the absence of true consciousness, much like a teenager - of whatever age - lies about his experience, building himself up in the estimation of others, to get by, until he maybe finally becomes what he claims he is, or wishes he were. Yes, that may actually be the scariest thing about the forbidden fruits; when a man closes his eyes to escape what he thinks he finds confronting and is yet confronted by an even deeper level of hell. The mind ties itself in a knot, the heart seemingly explodes.

Again, we return to meditation. There is no other means, of which I am aware, to weed the garden, down to the raw soil, in order to start again. Hell is a weed. Left to its own devices, it takes over the whole garden. Meanwhile, the cared-for garden contains no trace of hell. |
