I used to scorn herbal teas, because I didn't know much about them. Hippy stuff, I thought, and was not very kindly disposed towards such people. I am still not, but I do know a bit more about teas, or herbal infusions, as the French call them. The main criteria, for me, was whether or not a tea tasted good. Which is reasonable, I suppose. You're not very inclined to drink something that costs money, takes preparation, and you don't even enjoy. Unless you have heard it may do some good for something that ails you! Then you'll do most anything, hoping for some beneficial result. I really only recently became aware of the possible benefits of indulging in things that my taste buds couldn't recommend. Yerba Mate, for example. Not much taste, other than maybe straw. But the effects were quite noticeable and often useful. Chamomile, too. Nothing I would rave about, but indeed, calming to the nervous system. There are others. Vervain, also known as Verbena. Hibiscus, Lemongrass. Valerian. And - dare I say it - Marijuana. It's not for the taste, alone, that one may utilize herbal teas. They really can do quite incredible things for anyone in need of their particular qualities. Top of my list are the ones soothing to the nerves, in the area of over-sensitivity. Taste is now a very secondary consideration, but that said, for taste, Hibiscus is a favorite. Go away and have a boring cup of Chamomile. Then come back and see how much calmer you feel. Suck up that nothing taste, and be glad it doesn't taste far, far worse.
