I'm sure there's lots of lore to spirituality, but we won't go into that, right now. We'll focus, instead, on everybody's favorite thing: appearances I've been comprehensively abused on various internet forums, over the years, even coming in for a fair old bit of ridicule right where I live, for daring to speak of spirituality and enlightenment. I am, apparently, a charlatan, a fake, a liar, an egomaniac, and many other things besides. These none too friendly accusations are leveled at me, because I do not immediately appear to be what people expect a spiritual master to be. I speak in simple terms, sometimes quite coarsely, and am sometimes known to swear. I make no effort, whatsoever, to appear to not be what I am, nor to be what I am not. People are not used to that. They get confused. And they don't like feeling confused, either. The French have a way with words. I do not have, as they would say: "Le Look". Which, although uttered by the french, is actually English, but with a third 'O' (or a fourth, too) to make it sound like "le looook". Yes, I don't have the look. And when I used to wear my Berber turban, which is now owned by Soren, I still didn't have the look, except to anti-terrorist police, and right-wing vigilantes. But I digress. The drift of this post is to discuss what one should look like, speak like, be like, when one is spiritual. And it seems to me, that it doesn't matter. Dress like Moses, if you must, or like a logger. Even a bus conductor. It doesn't matter one bit. People will go right on being what they always are, anyway. You might as well do the same. It's just as important what you're not. Maybe there is no particular difference, though. Come to think of it I suspect that you're not supposed to be a crow so I could see how that would be a problem. |

Right. There's no point trying to appear to not be a gerbil, either. Best keep it simple. |
