Socializing.

My wife and I entertained, today, a not-very-well old lady.
She had nothing to offer, which was fine. We did it for her. To share what we have, for a while, with somebody with few friends or contacts.
The day was perfect, and our own hospitality as close to perfect as you can get. The garden stunned with its great beauty, bathed in sunlight.
Cake and Pimms, flapjacks and wildlife.
Too bad she treated us to - apropos of nothing - a display of her extreme hatred of Donald Trump in a very loud and shrill voice that I finally had to ask her to tone down a bit, since it was hurting my ears.

Socializing.
Afterwards, we both looked at each other and agreed that Thank God that was over.
Because, when you get right down to it, socializing is almost entirely a complete waste of time.
Nothing gets done. Everything stops. There is no progress resulting from it. It's hardly ever even pleasant.

Tomorrow I'll resume building my raccoon tower, and my wife will resume her gardening.
We tolerate humans when we must, and need them not at all.
On our hierarchy of what's important and what is not, socializing comes out very near the bottom.

"Squawk!" said the crow, and then made space.
