Evolution is taken by most to be some process that happened in the past.
Not so; evolution is ongoing, and extant.
Humans, themselves, are evolving, devolving, and subject to progress and entropy, in varying degrees, minute by minute.
I see two different species, diverging from each other, yet still known by the generic term 'human'.

There are those who could be said to be living in the real world, while others become ever more unable to even know what the real world is.
And that second category seem more than willing to ditch any allegiance to Reality, in their favored flight into unreality, surrealism, and fantasy.

There are the sane, and the not-sane. The sane know the not-sane as not-sane.
While the not-sane know the sane as not-sane.
Clearly, some profound schism is fast approaching.
What its results will be are as yet unclear.

The quasi-humans are legion, and observably ill-suited to survive in the real world.
While the humans are what they always were: adaptable, innovative, intuitive and improvisational.

Warfare is not mandatory, between them, but humans being what humans are, and quasi-humans even more-so, whatever does happen, is not likely to be pretty.
"Squawk!" said the crow, and then made space.

The problem with open warfare between the quasi-humans and the humans is that the quasi's outnumber us by somewhere around, I estimate, one to one hundred. Arithmetic can be brutal.

I reckon it's best that those still fully human make a quiet getaway, and let the quasi-humans cannibalize each other, and they will, until there is just a shell of a society left.

Then, and only then, we can perhaps build a civilization of excellence again.
