Nobody uses semicolons any more; I still find semicolons useful. Of even more use is the colon: they are an arrow pointing towards the eagerly-anticipated meat and potatoes. But, naturally, any discussion of punctuation would be incomplete, pointless even, without the humble comma. That said - if it can even be said to have been said - the underused ellipsis makes a bold statement of the understatement. Paragraph breaks are virtually disappearing, of late. Replaced by a solid block of text that only the anally-retentive, terminally-bored reader would bother with. "Well said" said I, to myself. "Few could have better said it." Even had they used more words. |
