People who can do things right, generally don't bother doing them at all, while those who can't do things well, do more of those things than they should. The ones who can, think somebody else could do it better, while those that can't, have no means of critically evaluating what they do. A sort-of physical rendering of The Dunning-Kruger Effect. If you've ever wondered why nothing works, or works-right, or lasts, this may be one reason why. |

Ages ago my dad was putting the finishing touches on a home made fence at his property. I criticised his handiwork, saying he had no idea what he was doing. His wife responded that 'sometimes you've just got to fake it until you make it', and that my father excelled at putting that into practice. Rightyo then. I suppose if he ever has to erect another fence, the previous experience means he'll do a better job next time. |

He may well do better the next time. He'll know, if he was paying attention, what not to do, anyway. But many people never learn. It's as if they are somehow incapable of it. Available finances also have a lot to do with it sometimes, at least where fences are concerned. I really don't like that "fake it 'til you make it" cliche. There's something very wrong with that whole idea. Unfortunately though, that's exactly what a majority of people do. |
