People love to use the term 'stupid'. It makes them feel superior. Like a magic bullet, it always hits the mark, brushing aside discomfort and self-doubt, and leaving behind a sense of euphoria. But what is 'stupid'? I'll tell you what 'stupid' is... Imagine something that nobody knows. This is hard to do, because nobody knows it. Imagine you, yes you, setting out on a solitary journey of discovery, lasting many years and almost costing you your life, in order to know this thing that nobody knows. Hardship, privation, pain and suffering. Loneliness, desperation, effort expended beyond that which your body is capable of expending. Until finally, just when you decided you couldn't continue further, the discovery is made... Yes! This thing that nobody knows, is finally known, to you. The truth of it is yours. It exists! You backtrack over the vast distances you've come, through a lifetime of hardship, all the way back to where you started out. Because you know this thing that nobody knows. And now you must share what you know. You tell it to everyone you meet. And everyone you meet demands you 'prove' it. Wait a minute... I'm telling you that this thing is so. This thing is real. Now you don't have to wonder, any more, if it is. You are being told that somebody knows it; somebody has found out. This thing you didn't know, is now known. You would expect, wouldn't you, that this simple exchange of information would be possible? But you find that it is not. There seems, in fact, to be nobody on earth that is able to simply listen to what you have discovered, and be amazed by it. Or in any way even accept it. It's not a matter of belief, or faith; somebody has discovered something that nobody had discovered before. And it makes not one bit of difference. When you're too intelligent to receive new information you didn't yet have, then that is 'stupid'. Edited by crow, Sep 13 2016, 11:47 AM.

The 'stupid' you refer to is based on a wish to hold the world stable and unchanging. That is the great reason why human society moves forward so slowly with many fall backs and relearning of old wisdom and knowledge. When western society consider a great step forward is gay marriage, then you have to ask why? |
