Humility is absent from the western world and it shows. Every one either believes themselves better than any other or they think they are worthless. It is like they are all manic depressives but mostly split into two groups. They address this madness with, positive thinking ideas; confidence boosters; stupid talk to make themselves appear more intelligent, knowledgeable, attractive or just better than whoever they are speaking to. Humans, as I have stated many times, are just animals, no different to other animals on this planet. One of the unbreakable rules of herding animals like humans is that someone must be in charge. The search for someone worthy to be in charge was always the great challenge for us. Once a ruler is in place and that ruler is shown deference, then things start to fall into place. The part that was always combined with this structure was the sense of humility, in the face of the overwhelming power of life and nature, plus the awareness of something greater than ourselves. This humility gave us some balance and communal respect for others within our circle (village, tribe, town or country) and in some cases outside of it as well. That humility is gone and may not return for a few hundred years. It will take this long as we have given all power to our own ego's. It will not stop until we wake up to the destruction this lack of a basic tenet of our lives has done to us and return it to us, by us. |
