Here are short descriptions of Role play characters on sim, along with prospects for Role Play: Bannerlords Role play prospects: Very Good These men are the backbone of the Northern Kingdom. Their ancient loyalties to their King are what have kept the nation united and safe. The Northern nation has never been conquered at this time in history for three reasons: 1) For thousands of years, Stark rule has been one characterized by honor and integrity. 2) The remoteness and cruel environment of this Kingdom, coupled with a geography makes it easier to defend than most, and 3) The stalwart loyalty of its bannerhouses, characterized by people who are tough and true to their homeland. Bannermen attend strategy meetings, are mobilized for military actions, assist with security issues in Winterfell, and form alliances with other houses through marriage. Female Nobles and Bannerladies: Role play prospects: Fair to Good Bannerladies are either married to banner lords, or unmarried. Unmarried banner ladies are “ladies in waiting” and look to marry Lords from other houses to create alliances. They can assist with weddings, feasts and other events. They attend court and are companions to the Queen. Noble women who do not have Lords running their house get to role play that Lord’s responsibilities, increasing their role play prospects from fair to good. Sellswords: Role play prospects: Poor Sellswords are mercenaries for hire. These characters do not see use from the king for one very simple reason. The North is the poorest of all Kingdoms. The Winter king could hire sellswords if needed, but he knows their loyalty to him could always be outbid by any other Kingdom. The King of the North would rather have a neophyte soldier at his side who was trustworthy, than a skilled mercenary he couldn’t turn his back on. Sworn swords, however, were trusted by the King and have much better prospects for role play. Some Bannerhouse lords might employ sellswords, but this is on a case by case basis. Starks. Role play prospects: Very Good Even though Winterfell sim is set 400 years before the books, playing a Stark gives one a connection to that lore. Like Neddard, all Starks are honorable to a fault. Until the house is full, you can choose siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles or aunts. The King expects his family to be honest, bound by duty, and prepared to make any sacrifice for family and Kingdom. Spies: Role Play prospects: Good The king is not above using spies to gain information about all enemies of his people, foreign and domestic. Role play possibilities are dependent on out of character cooperation with those you are attempting to spy on. Smallfolk. Role Play prospects: Very Good. Smallfolk in Winterfell are the heart and soul of the northern kingdom, and much loved by the King and Queen. The King believes that smallfolk are entitled to justice in the same manner as his own family, and his own sworn nobles. Even prostitutes are seen as necessary and legitimate professionals by the King. Wintertown is not a thriving village without smallfolk, and there are always roles available. Owners of businesses get free housing above their shops. Smallfolk are also allowed to hold several jobs at once, increasing their potential for RP throughout both the keep and in the town. More specific roles can be found here: http://www.winterfell.sevenkingdomssl.com/?page_id=92 Knights. Role Play prospects: Fair “To be be a knight, you must stand your vigil in a sept, and be annointed with the seven oils to consecrate your vows. In the the north, only a few of the great houses worship the Seven. The rest honor the old gods and name no knights…but those lords and their sons and sworn swords and are no less fierce or loyal or honorable. A man’s worth is not marked by a Ser before his name, as I have told you a hundred times before.” Maester Luwin to Bran Stark, page 570 from Game of Thrones. Since the majority of Northern people worship the old gods, the presence of Knights on Winterfel sim is a rare thing. The title of knight does not carry any special meaning to the Northern King. House Manderly and House Cassel are the only houses of the North that actively recruit knights. If you still want to be a knight, prospects for role play best start with them. Otherwise sworn swords and Armored lance men have the same skills and value as Knights in the North, and should be considered as well. Guards, Soldiers and Sworn Swords. Role Play Prospects: Very Good “A sharp rap on the door heralded Jory Cassel. Ned closed Malleon’s tome and bid him enter. “I’ve promised the City Watch twenty of my guard until the tourney is done” he told him. “I rely on you to make the choice. Give Alyn the command., and make certain the men understand that they are needed to stop fights, not start them. ” Neddard Stark in King’s landing, page 274 Game of Thrones. The Starks have always relied on guards to be brave, wise, just and above all completely loyal. They patrol the Keep, Taverns, and special events and try to stop trouble before it starts. They answer to their house lords if hired by a house. Many Lords consent to have their guards serve the King as well. They are heavily relied upon as body guards. They are also called upon to move about town shouting “hear ye” announcements from the Winter King. The Wolf’s Watch is a security force specifically created by the Stark King. Their first duty if to protect the King, his family and his keep. The Captain of the Wolf’s Watch is a position of great responsibility, and as the arm of the king’s Justice has very good role play prospects. Wildings. Role play prospects: Excellent. “…there were folks fiercer even than Varamyr, from the northernmost reaches of the haunted forest, the hidden valleys of the Frostfangs, and even queerer places: the men of the frozen shore who rode in chariots made of walrus bones pulled by packs of savage dogs, the terrible ice river clans who were said to feast on human flesh, the cave dwellers with their faces dyed blue and purple and green. With his own eyes Jon had beheld the Hornfoot men trotting along in column on bare soles as hard as boiled leather. He had not seen any snarks or grumpkins, but for all he knew Tormund would be having some to supper.” Page 209 from A Storm of Swords Every story should have antagonists, and Wildings make some of the best. And although they demonstrate savagery even greater than Vikings or Barbarians, there is much to love about these characters. They are a people who have escaped the confines of the wall, looking to survive by wits and primal brutality. Wildings have protected identities allowing them to visit Wintertown, as well as their own camp to role play in. Wildings cannot be identified as such unless their player gives away telling information in Role Play. They can spy, thieve, vandalize and kidnap citizens as hostages or slaves. Assassins: Role Play Prospects: Poor Assassins were not likely to be used in the northern Kingdom. The Starks preferred to remove enemies through King’s court, warfare or trial by combat. One of the problems with role playing an effective assassin is finding another player who wishes to have their character killed. This a rare occurrence, and as result makes this character’s Role Play prospects poor. Criminals: Role Play Prospects: Very Good Thieves, smugglers, scam artists, bandits and sex predators. Wintertown is a city like any other, and would have its own kind of criminal element. And while the King and his guards have to react to crime as it happens, our sim is structured to allow this role play, as long as it is done realistically. In character actions have in character consequences, so we recommend some OOC coordination with your victims before your crimes are committed. Edited by RoganStark, May 11 2012, 08:40 PM.
