~Quick Glance~ Seat: Last Hearth Coat of Arms: (one of two) Steel Chains crossed on a black background. OR A giant in chains on a blood red banner. Colors: Blood red and black Region: The North Fealty: The Starks The Umbers are one of, if not the most, loyal banner-men of the Starks. They are fiercely loyal to the Starks and when not fighting off the wildings in the hearth they are by their king's side. It is said that the Umbers can raise a levy of some 2,000 men, or more if they are willing to risk their harvests. They are known for their ferocity in battle and said to have been descendants of giants. They like many other houses of the north are an ancient line of the First Men. ~The Last Hearth~ Their seat is the Last Heath, a vast and wild domain. True to its name, Last Hearth is the last noble seat before one reaches the Gift and the Wall beyond. The castle rules a great forested domain, from the road (which will eventually be named the kings road) to the Bay of Seals. A place of wild hills and ancient forests of oak and pine. ~Personality and Appearance~ Large, loud, fiery, and unsophisticated, the Umbers are the kind of men who love battle, mead, and a warm woman on a cold night. They are as fierce in their feuds as they are in their loyalties. Their wildness and huge appetites can cause trouble; many have earned unsavory reputations. They are also known to be highly stubborn, you were warned. The men are known for their great height and large frames. They are said to be decadents of giants, and often fit that role. Women are also known to be slightly thicker and taller though smaller framed women would not be unheard of. Like most houses of the north their hair tends to be darker. Eyes silver, brown or even black. *Keep in mind depending on who your Umber Parent married you may have their genes. Tully red hair, Dorne tan skin, and so on... But the darker hair and eyes would be dominant* ~Enemies~ Besides winning renown in battle, the Umbers are concerned with the threat the wildlings beyond the Wall can pose. Wildlings sometimes use boats to slip past the Wall, causing trouble for the Umbers and other lords of the far North. Their zeal to go to war must be balanced with concern for their own lands and smallfolk. Any house that threatens house Stark. |
