----------------------
StarClan is silent, dead silent. The Medicine Cats are no longer getting dreams when they visit the moonpool, and if they do it is full of death and blood, cats crying for help, or cats running towards them and being torn down by another before they can utter a single word. It is a terrifying time for the Medicine Cats and Leaders of the clans, and the nights are getting darker as the moon wanes its way towards nothingness. Has StarClan abandoned the clans? Or has something terrible befallen the warrior ancestors. And in the darkest of nights cats sworn dead and dishonored by their clans can be seen stalking the forest once again, flitting in and out of view, and able to interact with the world around them.
----------------------
The shadows are coming,
Death is marching.
Famine approaches on pain's black wing.
Among the trees, beyond the stars,
The Dark Forest tears at its bars.

Welcome to the Guide to BlazeClan Culture. Here you will find all you need to know about life in BlazeClan's scenic desert wastelands!! This guide is organized into sections, which I hope you'll find useful. You should read this and refer to it and love it and make love to it.

Table of Contents:
1. The Desert (Climate, Plants, Animals)
2. Clan Customs (Daily Grind, Duties, Lifestyle)
3. Clan Traditions (Legends, Myths, Quirks)

1. The Desert
Climate, Plants, Animals

2. Clan Customs
Daily Grind, Duties, Lifestyle

What with the clan living in a /desert/ I think we should establish a culture for BlazeClan that makes sense for their situation. Like, normal clans and clans in the book have patrols and hunting and such during the day and they sleep at night. That doesn't make sense for a clan living in a desert because it is HOT AS BALLS during the day and really cold during the night.

I suggest that we make it established that BlazeClan hunts and checks its borders between dusk and dawn, and sleeps during the day with like two to four warriors (depending on level of alert & number of warriors) staying awake in shifts determined by the deputy to watch the camp and make sure the other clans aren't attacking while BlazeClan sleeps and such. A normal day might go:

Sunrise: All patrols are in, announcements, deputy announces shifts for watch. First shift takes watch, others go to sleep.

Mid-Morning: Shift change. First watch wakes second watch and goes to sleep.

Sunhigh: Shift change. Second watch wakes third watch and goes back to sleep.

Mid-afternoon: Shift change. Third watch wakes fourth watch and goes back to sleep. (I'd say second and third watches are considered the worst because you get to sleep, but then get woken up for your shift, and then you have to try to get more rest whereas in first and fourth you get one solid block of sleep.)

Sunset: Clan begins to wake. Deputy announces patrols, who depart.

Night: Patrols are coming in and out, prey is collected and eaten. Socializing and training apprentices and general activity occurs now. Depending on level of alert, clan may have watchers posted.

Perhaps sometimes mentors will train their apprentices in fighting during the day so they can get used to fighting in the sun, but not often and such sessions would be lighter because it is very easy to overwork in the heat.

"As tough as the desert where these cats can be found, nothing less than absolute loyalty is accepted, with death the penalty. Perfection is expected as well, mercy optional, but what is not optional is the mark of the clan, or Blood Mark, which is a wound that all new warriors must accept from the leader. It is placed upon one shoulder, and is a triangle with a line through it, but is more commonly referred to as "four lines, connected" to those who do not use the term 'triangle'."

3. Clan Traditions
Legends, Myths, Quirks

The Mark
The Mark, or Blood Mark, is a scar that all warriors can be found with. It is given by the leader once they have finished their training (and can be given by the medicine cat in the event of their apprentice finishing training, but this is optional). It is a triangle, just larger than a cat's paw, with a line through the center, cutting the triangle in half. It must be done carefully, and the young warrior must hold still. In the event that a cat is exiled or killed for crimes against the clan, their mark is clawed away.

However, the winds of change continue to blow! Now that Deadstar is leader, the tradition of the Blood Mark is in danger. As a cat born outside BlazeClan, Deadstar did not grow up with the Mark being something to look forwards to and take pride in. In addition, since he was maimed by his own clan, Deadstar would not want to willingly scar his own warriors. At the same time, cats who did grow up in BlazeClan and who take pride in the Mark might want to be marked. Currently he is omitting a public Marking of new warriors at their ceremonies, but will give them one if they request one.
Perhaps this will create a division between the cats with Marks and without?

I like all the first ideas. More logic, less death!
RE: Bloodmark, Cloud ICly doesn't like it b/c she's so prissy, and OOCly I have no opinion on the matter. If it makes sense for dead to want to get rid of it, go for it in my book.

I think Bumble would probably be required to hunt during the night since yeah. Long coat. And lolol I don't even think Snakestar gave Bumble the mark. But I think making it optional would probably be a good idea.

I think this is a nice idea.
1. I do think that it would be better for the clan to [pretty much] wake up and do most patrols during sunset/sunrise, just for the reason that cats could overheat during the hottest time of the day and pass out. Thus leaving their paws in Starclan. [XD] To me, there isn't a problem with it due to the fact that Shadowclan [in the books] did night hunting and night patrols.

2. The apprentices and their mentors. Perhaps they could train during the morning? Before sunhigh when it's warming up, or even after it when everything's cooling down. Either way, if you do go through with this, it would probably be crucial to know how to fight in the sunlight, being as 3/4 of the clans are awake during the day. The apprentices would, however, have the upper hand if Blazeclan, say, attacked Fenclan, if they did it during the night, Fenclan would be totally surprised and all out of sorts. [DON'T GET ANY IDEAS, CINDER WILL RIP YOU CLAW OFF >:D]

3. The Bloodmark thing. I'm not quite sure, being as I don't know how excited an apprentice would be to have their shoulder cut into a desired shape. I'll leave you to think about that one, being as I don't know much about it. I do think that a cat who grew up in the clans, yet is not a warrior, would want to have a Bloodmark being as they heard it all their lives before Snakestar disappeared.

[When the heck did I start acting like an admin....anyway, enjoy deciding. :round: ]

I like this. xD And you should just go ahead and do what Deadstar would do with the bloodmark. If he doesn't want to scar his warriors, don't make him scar his warriors, lol.

It's funny since we've all been role-playing during the day and acting like Blazeclan is awake during the day. But yeah, it makes more sense for the cats to be up during the night instead of the daytime and blahblahblah.

And Honeyleaf would be completely in disbelief if Deadstar did that, and would request that she still be able to give the Bloodmark to her apprentice when she was ready to be a medicine cat (fully of course, not a medicine cat apprentice). Not to say she wouldn't still support Deadstar, as she would understand, but she would want to carry on the tradition through thick and thin. Out of character, personally I don't mind since I completely understand. But I would think Deadstar would talk to the older warriors and perhaps Honeyleaf before making the decision, as that is a very deep tradition of Blazeclan. c:

Wow! Thanks for all the opinions!

"you should just go ahead and do what Deadstar would do with the bloodmark. If he doesn't want to scar his warriors, don't make him scar his warriors, lol."
That. Is actually. A very very good point. Thanks. xD

"It's funny since we've all been role-playing during the day and acting like Blazeclan is awake during the day."
Yeah idk whether or not to say Dead started that or what because all our RPs were daytime even though logically the cats would have been active at night. <_> OPINIONS ON THAT?!?!?? I don't want Dead to be this huge force of CHANGE in BlazeClan VIVE LA REVOLUTION even though lol who am I kidding he totally already is.

I suppose I'll find time for a BlazeClan RP where I establish these things. After the rp, I'll make a new BlazeClan Information thread or edit Snake's original one.

In the meantime, more opinions are superfab~

I think it would mess with the previous rps too much if we assumed they all happened at night. Cause like, 'the sun was really hot, but let's go hunting!' is in a lot of rps, and it is thought of as normal. It's not a big deal if he changes a few things, the clans don't start out perfect. They are edited and repaired as the new leaders see fit. Sometimes it doesn't occur to the previous leaders to do something a certain way.

I think the bloodmark thing would be a fun mini-plot, since there are some BC warriors that take pride in the mark and would probably be offended if Dead took it away.

OK With that last rp I've gotten everything down except the matter of the blood mark. I'm still deciding if Dead will announce it or just casually slip in "do you /want/ to be marked" to the new warrior or something. HMHMHMMHMHMHMHMHMHMHM I will talk with him.
