Furyoku

Essential to even the most basic shaman magic, Furyoku (巫力, furyoku,"shamanic power") is the measure of the sixth sense that an organism is born with. It is generated by willpower and its integrity is contingent upon the being's conviction, but is can be created either naturally or artificially (i. e.Golem). Every living thing (plants, animals, and human beings) is given a measure of Furyoku by the Great Spirit prior to birth to live out their lives, and upon their death, that power then returns to the planet. During an organism's lifetime, they have experiences from which they gain memories, and once they die, their Furyoku returns to the planet, taking with it the memories of the life form to which it had been attached. These memories in turn give rise to more Furyoku, allowing the planet's spirit as a whole to grow, and the cycle of life to continue.

Furyoku can also be increased, but much like the five basic senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste), Furyoku is an inborn power that cannot be improved merely through physical training. The process for increasing a shaman's Furyoku usually involves a "pseudo-death" experience. Ventures such as these usually involve the shaman being stripped of their physical senses, leaving only their sixth sense. Throughout the ordeal, the shaman must contend with the onslaught of negative emotion from their own being, relying only their strength of heart sustain them. After such an ordeal, the shaman's soul would either be strengthened or broken, in which the shaman may never recover.

An alternative method of increasing Furyoku is actual, physical death and near-death. Whenever a shaman is injured to the point of death and subsequently revived, their Furyoku increases dramatically. It is for this reason that the leader of the X-Laws, Jeanne spends her time in her iron maiden. Her Furyoku increases almost constantly, due to the torture she undergoes to keep herself near death at all times.

Reiyoku

Reiyoku, like Furyoku is an essential part of Shamans, although it is not directly linked to them. Reiyoku, is a spirit's energy literally meaning "Spirit Power". The level of a spirits Reiyoku is the power to be able to communicate with the living, and how they are able to use their powers in conjunction to a Shamans abilities. It gives them the abilities to possess, fuse with mediums, and progress as a spirit into Higher Spirits, and even God class spirits.

The biggest thing about Reiyoku, is that if a spirits Reiyoku is higher than a Shamans Furyoku, it then becomes impossible for Shamans to use the Hyoui-Gattai or Oversoul with them completely. Being on level, or lower, does not affect this, except for the fact that it allows the shamans to perform these tasks.

To raise Reiyoku, is dependant mostly on the Shaman, or actions of a spirit. Things such as Hyoui-Gattai, possession, and Oversoul are what raises these levels. The more used, the higher it goes, though progression is rather slow. A spirit who does not belong/is partnered to a shaman may raise this level through forced possessions, although in order to do this, they must have a Reiyoku level higher than the targets Furyoku.

Another way this can be raised, though very risky, is if the spirit passes on, and is brought back by conventional means such as an Itako, their Reiyoku may be increased dramatically.

Hyoui-Gattai

Hyoui-Gattai is the ability for a Shaman to fuse a spirits soul into their own body. The power of Hyoui-Gattai is one of the first general things a Shaman can learn. Although easy to perform and learn, there are risks. The Furyoku level of a shaman MUST be equal to, or above a spirits own Reiyoku, or it will become physically impossible for them to retain and control the Hyoui-Gattai, and can be extremely damaging to the Shamans body.

During the fusion, the Shamans soul, and the Spirits soul are BOTH present in the Shamans own body. Though the Shaman has control over the thoughts, the Spirit has control over the body. The risks in this, are that when the Shaman executes a plan or action, with the Spirit, they must be at 100% acceptance of the shared body in order for the responce to come at the time executed. If only at 10%, the time interval between the thought process, and the actual motion of the movement is slower, and thus is not as effective, as a shaman trained to have 20%, or 30%, ect. Thus, training to 100% acceptance, is a way to reach the pinacle of Hyoui-Gattai.

With the added bonus of having the Spirit be able to fight in battle, the Shaman fused gains all the techniques, experience, and knowledge the Spirit contains for the duration of the Hyoui-Gattai. And so, if the shaman were to fuse with a master carpenter, the experience and training in building and carpentry would be that of the masters. Much like when Yoh fused with the blacksmith, Mosuke, to gain his knowledge and experience in smithing to fix the greatsword Harusame.

A Shaman must reach a minimum of 700 Furyoku aswell as the spirit 600 Reiyoku to reach 100% Acceptance.
