there is something that bugs me about this episode. fiona: it may be bipolar disease like our mom mickey: bi bi what? what the f**k is that? ^ I get that Mickey may not be educated about bipolar, but I wondered how he had not heard of it especially where Ian was involved. let me point some stuff out: 1. Ian never brought up the fact that he has a mom who is bipolar? We saw him run frantically to Mickey's house in season 1 when Monica showed up. We never saw it, but he never explained why he was upset? Mickey just went to him at the Kash and Grab without asking "what's wrong?" <---- that makes no sense to me. 2. I know Mickey wasn't in many episodes during season 2, but we see Ian telling Mickey how he wants to be an officer. so i take it that they have conversations about things unrelated to sex? 3. After Mickey and Ian start up their relationship again in season 3, Ian never brings up "by the way, thanksgiving was insane. My mom tried to kill herself...." It's really the writers who are leaving these things out. I find it hard to believe Ian has never talked about his mom to Mickey before. freaking writers. Edited by Gilda, Nov 9 2014, 03:47 AM.

Well, I think Ian tries to avoid talking about his mother as much as possible. In fact, it seems as if the entire family tries to avoid talking about their mom. We don't even find out what happened to their mother until the episode where Monica and Bob try to take Liam. Ian probably tries to avoid talking about the fucked up parts about his family. He actually seems very closed about his family problems outside of the Gallagher house.

Contrary to popular belief, imo, Ian is not big on talking about his feelings. Monica is a particularly sensitive topic for him. In addition, around the times stuff was going down with Monica, Ian & Mickey weren't really at the friendship stage yet so I'm not surprised that he didn't divulge any details about her to Mickey. I always imagined that Ian just told Mickey that his deadbeat mom was back in town. I was surprised that Mandy knew, though. I wonder if it's just a random fact she knows or if Ian confided in her. Maybe Lip. But I can believe that Ian told her. The show doesn't often show it but they are really close friends. |
