I really enjoyed this episode especially the Ian and Mickey scenes. :uwu: I liked the sort of chilled out vibe it had to it. Wasn't overly exciting as nothing big happened but they needed to introduce the new characters and set up the storyline that are going to be happening this season.

I understand where people are coming from with how close Ian and Mickey have become with Svetlana. I pretty much predicted that they would all be getting along and be friends but as much as I love that scene with them all, the bit that wasn't as realistic to me was when Svetlana kissed them both on the cheek. Obviously we don't know what's gone on between them in the, I'm going to assume 4 months but had 6 months to a year have passed then maybe I would find the kisses on the cheek more believable.

I'm really glad they had Ian looked confused and look like he was wrestling with the whole cheating thing, I think it was extremely important to show that so people didn't just think he was out and out cheating on Mickey. Although unfortunately from some comments I've seen people still don't really understand it and think Ian is just choosing to cheat on Mickey, which shows they are either naive or just really aren't paying attention to the show.

It was nice to see Lip showing he cared for Ian's well-being considering they didn't handle it that well at the end of season 4, and also Fiona. Lip and his random "old" friends that we had never seen before made me laugh. I'm struggling to understand his problem though as surely when he started going to Uni he felt out of place but then fitted in, surely that would just naturally happen for him once he's been back home for a while? Just feels like a bit of a weak storyline to me.

I thought Kev was hilarious as usual along with Mickey and Sheila. The three of them really are the funniest characters on the show and never fail to make me laugh.

Now with Sammi, she didn't bother me last season, I was very much indifferent towards her but I wasn't that pleased to hear she was going to be a main character in season 5, which I really don't think she needs to be or should be. I fully believe the only reason they kept her on for season 5 was just so Frank and Shelia had someone else to interact with. The problem with her I think, is they don't give the audience a reason to care about her or haven't done yet. Why should I care about her? Also I don't actually want her interacting too much with the rest of the Gallaghers, I'm okay with her being in the show as long as its with Frank and Sheila. I feel that way because all of the main characters have been there since season 1 and now trying to integrate a new main character in season 5 I just don't like.

Carl and Debbie weren't really in it all that much so don't have much to say about them really. Frank making his own beer i dont really care about so. -_-

Wow. What to say... I loved the episode, I feel like this is will be a very exciting season.
The cheating storyline is exactly like I thought and Cameron was amazing, you could actually see how uncomfortable Ian was during the episode. I hope the writers are going to use the cheating as a way to convince Ian to seek help instead of breaking Mickey and Ian apart(I doubt that tbh).
Anyway, I don't have a lot to say ahah Sammi annoys me so much ugh Oh and I loved how Mickey's relatives (cousins? Brothers?) seemed ok with him and Ian, it's good to see some of the Milkoviches accept Mickey's sexuality ❤️

I liked this storyline, I think it's an interesting thing to explore; that Lip now for the first time really sees how awful that neighborhood is, how stuck the people who live there often are. He feels kind of torn, because on one hand he'll always be south side, but now he's had a taste of something different and he doesn't know how to combine the two in a way that won't paint him as, I don't know, a "pussy" or a "snob"? So yeah, apart from the random friends that showed up out of no where (similar to Debbie's random friends in s4), I think this storyline has interesting potential in the sense that it seems he's finally starting to grow up.

Nette - Yeah I guess I just thought it was weird, as surely he's been going back home quite often? Maybe not as often as before when he had to go back cos Fiona wasn't there when she was in jail and when she needed help the rest of the time but I just assumed he'd still be going home a lot so therefore wouldn't feel that out of place.

Oh well, see where it goes I guess but its a good thing if its making him grow up a little more.

It did seem a bit sudden, considering as you said he's probably been back home quite often. But for the most part he's still been living at the dorms, and with Fiona out of jail he's not needed at home as badly as before which could mean he started going there less and less so he could focus on his school work. He was also brought into Amanda's world a little bit last season, when she wanted him to particpate in that ceremony with her sorority and they went out to dinner after. I think it could have maybe eased into this storyline a bit better, but I honestly always feel like that with the season premiere since it's usually a few months after the last season ended and we have to play catch up to figure out what's happened since. I felt the same way with Fiona's relationship with her boss, with the shifted dynamic in the Milkovich house, etc.

Anyway, back to Lip, I was kind of wondering if his behaviour might have been influenced by the expensive watch Amanda gave him. Like, he didn't really feel the need to be on guard when he was on the train with the higher class citizens, but the closer he got to his neighbourhood, the more tense and aware of his surroundings he became. I forget now what made me think that back when I first watched the episode, if he looked at it or if it was just the fact that it was so glaringly in the scene, but yeah.

Also, I agree with pretty much everyone else that the introduction of these "friends" of his was kind of random. He was never shown with anyone at school outside of Karen, Ian, Mandy, and the occasional student he was writing the SAT's for. Having former classmates recognize him would have made more sense, since they didn't have to necessarily have hung out to know the smart-mouthed genius of the Southside. But, well, it's not really something we're supposed to be putting much thought into obviously lol and on the off chance that wasn't the last appearance of Lip's friends, we'll still probably only see them maybe one more time before he goes back to school.

Shamelessly & Jessica: Oh yes, it's definitely sudden and the writers did make it seem like Lip hasn't been home at all in a year. I also think maybe during the last few months of college he started to feel more at home there, which could explain the "culture shock" of now coming back home for the entire summer holidays. I definitely agree that the storyline could have done with a smoother transition, especially when they've time-skipped quite a bit. I'm into it though, I hope it turns out interesting.
