I do agree with you that the season feels different, but I do think it's because of, like you said, Ian and Lip having left the nest combined with Carl and Debbie going off on their own and Fiona being left standing kind of clueless in their wake. I think that's interesting too though, because now she really needs to be a parent, because god knows these two teens needs a good parent right now

Right, and it's kind of interesting as well because she never really had to parent Lip and Ian much that we saw, but with Debbie and Carl, she basically was their mom. And they listened to her like she was a mom, and did what she told them to, and she's used to that with them. Now they don't listen to her the same way, they talk back, they retaliate and rebel, and she's having to completely re-evaluate her strategy in dealing with them. A lot of people thought Fiona was being negligent when she let Debbie have the unchaperoned party, but initially Fiona wasn't going to do that at all. She was going right into mama bear mode until she saw Debbie starting to pull away from her again and she realized she'd have to handle things differently. You have to learn when to trust your kids and when to pull out the parent card, and in that scenario she was trying to trust Debbie until she was given a reason not to. So I do think that's a lot of what's going on, I just miss that closeness and I hope they can get some of that back.

And yeah lol Debbie and Carl are very much in need of parenting. It's interesting because last season Fiona thought, since they were doing their own thing and not really sticking around the house much, that they didn't need her, that she had no purpose. She went through what a lot of parents experience when their kids start having their own lives. And now this season, she's kind of going along with that, trying to find a life of her own to have outside of them and not realizing that they DO still need her, and they'll always need her.
