So on a scale of 1-10 how nervous are you guys for tonight? Because I'm feeling about a 90.

On the bright side, the Mickey and Debbie scenes are bound to be a hit and provide some much needed release from all the tension.

I loved the episode.

But Ian. My poor Ian. He is so lost.

Monica will only make it worse for him. And I hope he realises it before it's too late.

For now, I'm just mainly going to talk about Chloe Webb/ Monica/ Ian.

Like, can we just talk about HOW MUCH Chloe Webb and Monica adds to this show and would add if she was a regular? If she would be back for next season, which I'm hoping from the bottom of my heart, I believe that it would be really good for this show after this ~The-Season-Must-Not-Be-Named~ season because I believe that if Monica was back, the stories would be a lot more family centric and we'd get to see a lot more of the Gallagher family dynamic that's been missing so much this season, and therefor next season would be million times better than this one.

Obviously one character can't change everything and there must happen something in TPTB's minds and all but I believe that having Chloe and Monica back as regular (although that's probably never going to happen) would be really, really good for this show that has now became a total mess. I, just like most of us, probably would have wanted to see Monica back on her medication and with her life together just to prove and assure Ian that it is possible to live a healthy life with bipolar disorder.

Monica clearly isn't on medication, and I hope that Ian realizes when watching Monica and her actions, that it's not something that he wants to do. Ian ~doesn't want to be like Monica~ and he doesn't wanna run, and I'm confident that this will happen and Ian will return home in the finale BUT what I would like to see next season (if Monica was back) is Ian being the one showing her mother how you can live a healthy life with bipolar disorder because I doubt they will ever write Monica being the one who would show that to Ian. Ian and Monica's scene in 511 was without a doubt the best scene in the entire episode, and the chemistry, is so good. Chloe's chemistry with everyone is incredibly and THERE IS SO MUCH TO EXPLORE WITH THIS CHARACTER, and with her relationships with her children, not only just Ian.

I just have a lot of feelings about Chloe and Monica and I'm 110% sure bringing her back as a regular would be the best thing happening to this show after this... mess.

Holy shit, I was freaking out thinking of Mickey being caught and charged for murder, thank god for those last two seconds. I can't stand Sammi but if she's to die I wouldn't want it to be Mickey's fault. Phew. The "omg no I didn't touch it I never touched it get your eyes checked" comment made me laugh  Oh and Emma Kenney was great in that roofie scene.

The whole Lip/professor storyline is so so weird, but at least they mentioned the gentrification again?

Ian, oh poor Ian. I knew Monica would manipulate him, I knew she would say all of that. And when she said "I love you" I just sighed, because Ian really needs to hear that from Mickey. He needs to hear that Mickey loves him for him, like Monica convinced Ian no one does. I don't share your Monica enthusiasm, Samuli, I'm completely indifferent to her  Indifference bordering dislike, I'd say. Stay, don't stay, I don't care. I'd prefer she didn't though, she's nothing but trouble and I don't really believe she'd change. She'll probably feel betrayed by Ian if he goes back on his medication and will leave them behind again. That said, the scene between her and Ian in jail was brilliantly acted, the look on Ian's face punched me right in the gut.

That's what I was thinking too, that's probably what's going to happen. I can't see him not returning in the finale, but idk.

Does Frank running off with Bianca mean there won't be any Frank in the finale??? Hallelujah. I watched the previews but I forgot if I saw him there.

On one hand, I feel like Monica is a character who could really breathe fresh air into the series, especially with how disconnected the family has been. I think she's a toxic person, but her scenes with the family are often some of the most emotional in the series, and we saw that in her scene with Ian. Unfortunately, it's pretty obvious she's not taking her medication and an unmedicated Monica is definitely not what the family needs, now or ever, so unless that changed as much as I love the emotion of her scenes I'd be fine with her not coming back. It is a shame, though, because like I said I do think she could be an interesting addition to the cast if utilized properly. Better than Frank, who doesn't even share scenes with his family, although if there's a point at all to his story with Bianca there could be a slim chance that changes in the seasons to come. Especially with them finally bringing up gentrification again, which hopefully will be a main theme next season since it sure as hell wasn't this year and that could help bring the family together again as well.

I mean, no one is expecting for them to not live their own lives, but the thing is a lot of their family moments are happening offscreen, we're being told that they're talking but rarely getting to actually see it. And that leaves the impression that they don't care as much, even if they actually do, because we're seeing 90% of their screentime focused on themselves and 10% focused on whatever family member is going through a crisis at the time. Of course, this could be deliberate, and I'm still kind of holding out for that revelation, but it's certainly fuelled my less-than-positive thoughts about this season.

I'll be the first to admit that Monica is toxic for Ian, now more than ever, but there is just so much potential for the old school Shameless drama that I have been missing so much this season that I can't even bring myself to be worried about it. What Monica lacks in stability, she makes up for in gut wrenching scenes with her kids, and this was no different. It was just really heartbreaking, because Ian was in such a vulnerable state of mind after his siblings listed all the ways he had acted "crazy."

I mean, it was clearly a plot device to drive Ian away from them and into Monica's arms, because they could have accomplished the same thing with having the psychiatrist who evaluated Ian speak on his behalf, or by handing over his medical records, or, I don't know, bringing up the fact that the military should be embarassed they didn't realize a 17-year-old boy enlisted with a fake ID he got at a corner store, using the name of his brother who was enrolled into college around the same time.

But despite knowing that, I can't help not minding much. Ian has a unique relationship with Monica that is not really a good thing but I can't help feeling captivated by. Within the family unit his siblings created, Ian was always counted on for his stability, he kept his personal life to himself and dealt with his problems mostly on his own because he didn't want to worry them. And I feel they came to rely on that and trust him to be able to do that, not realizing that more times than not he really needed them to notice what was happening with him. Lip occasionally noticed and would ask him about it, but there were times when he didn't grasp the severity of the situation and didn't bother intervening as a result. He relied on Ian to handle it and ask him for help if he couldn't, but that's just not how Ian worked. He didn't want to be a burden to them, even then.

The second time we saw Monica return, she heard about what Ian was going through, she reached out to him and in her own way tried to comfort him. It wasn't the best choice, it certainly wasn't good parenting, but all Ian really saw was someone caring enough about his well being to try and make it better. He saw her defend him in front of Frank the way no one else really bothered to. He saw her go against Terry when he came for Ian. Monica has always had this twisted way of showing her love for Ian, and as affection starved as he was, he craved it. He still craves it.

I think, even though Ian has seen what Monica's like before, both on and off her meds (mostly off though), right now it's just not something at the forefront of his mind. He may have said he went on his medication by his own choosing, and maybe that's what he told himself when he agreed with Mickey, but I think at the back of his mind he's still thinking, is this really necessary, do I need to rely on medication for my life? I think that's something Ian struggles with precisely because he has always done everything on his own, and controlling his mood levels is something he just can't. He'll always have to rely on the medication. And right now, I think that's where his inner battle is at, especially with how the medication made him feel and how he lashed out as a result. I do believe that his time with Monica will make him see that he can't live like her, but I think he'll still be struggling with his lost independence because as I said before he is someone who has always handled things on his own. I think it would be good character growth for him to learn to rely on other people, but I would also understand if he felt he needed to figure this out by himself first.

I was going to talk about the other characters as well, primarily Kev and Vee, but I might hold off until the finale tonight and just kind of include my thoughts with that instead. I meant to finish this post ages ago lol but that clearly didn't happen, oops.
