Wasteland Blues, Let's Summon a Tortoise!![]() Single Thread: Ryūgami Hiei's Tortoise Summon Contract Setting: - An Abandoned Shrine in the middle of a canyon; Very little activity - 18 Years before current timeline It had been one year since Hiei left his current lifestyle of his ninja village, and although the young man used to being on his own thanks to his reclusive nature he felt a strong sense of loneliness. Despite the fact that he was the one that decided to leave and journey across the Land of Earth to do a bit of soul searching, he still felt as if he wasn’t accomplishing anything during his absence. He missed friend Ryosei even though he thought the guy was a complete jerk, but more than anything he regretted not confessing his feeling to Yukari. However the fact of the matter was he left duly because of the two. They were getting so close that he felt invisible, just how he was when he first got to their village. Sighing to himself the man shock his depressing thoughts from his head and glanced around the area while scratching his unkempt brown hair. The Land of Earth honestly felt no different from the Land of Wind. The two place where both dry and barren of noticeable life and they were notorious for their heat. However the two lands did carry their fair share of forests and plant life, like the village he left; though where he was now was as dry as his scalp. Feeling tired the young man took a seat near on one of the rocks in the dusty canyon. With the sun blazing overhead he could feel the sweat dripping from his brow with let effort or resistance from his skin. Since the man hadn’t bathe or washed in a month his skin felt greasier than normal due to the caked dirt on his face mixing with his perspiration. He wanted to go home and forget about this stupid journey of self-discover he talked himself into. Maybe if i go back Yukari will talk to me again and say that she missed me. Laughing at the unlikeliness of his fantasy, the man sighed while stretching out upon the rock and closing his eyes from the sun. He figured he could rest for a bit before continuing though the canyon. |

Just as Hiei was about to drift off, he could feel the slight tremor of something beneath his back. Curious as to what was making him shake, the ninja raised his head to look around but failed to find the source of the shaking as it soon stopped. A quake? He ran the thought pass his mind, but disregarded it since he had never felt a quake last but a few seconds. Pondering the shaking still, the young man soon overlooked the phenomenon and tried to get back to sleep however he was stopped by a voice. “Get off me…” the voice was gruff and startled the young man, as he fell off the rock and onto the ground. However as she recovered from the fall he soon realized he wasn’t resting on a rock, but what appeared to be a giant tortoise. That was making its home in the canyon. However it soon don on him that something about the Animal was off. “Wait a second, Tortoises can’t talk,” he was slightly taken aback by the animal but didn’t show his fear of the creature for the simple fact that it was just an incredibly slow reptile. |

Hearing the Hiei and his comment, the giant Tortoise narrowed its beady eyes and responded to the young man. “Can’t talk?! What are you implying!” the reptile shouted, leaving a slight more baffled ninja in its wake. “That’s like saying we can’t swim, human.” “Tortoises can’t swim,” Hiei assured the talking reptile before while getting up off the ground. “They aren’t built for water like a turtle is.” Sighing to himself, he could see that he had struck a nerve with the large animal before him however he really didn’t care, he was more curious as to why there was a Tortoise here in the first place. Smaller ones were generally common with within the Earth County however he wasn’t used to seeing them as big as the one before him. It was at least a good five and a half feet tall and was brown like the canyon around them. “So what’s your deal anyway?” the man gave the animal an unimpressed look. “I normally don’t see Tortoises around places with very little vegetation.” The reptile continued to glare at Hiei, however answered his question since he hadn’t interacted with anybody for quite a while. “If you must know human I’m guarding a shrine dedicated to our chieftain, Lord Kurogame.” The tortoise explained as it turned its head to an incredibly ancient and worn down Torii off in the distance. |

Hiei noticed where the tortoise was looking and directed his attention to the Torii as well. Slightly taken aback at the damage and absolute wear of the shine, the young man was left speechless at its appearance. “Uh, just how old is your shrine?” the young ninja commented, trying to get a feel for what the reptile was doing here. Since the shrine looked old, he was having a hard time believing that the animal had been guarding the place based on its appearance. “Long enough,” the tortoise retorted while lying on its hard under shell. “So why is a human this far away from a human settlement?” Hiei sighed while catching on to the reptiles emphases on the word human. He could tell he the animal didn’t care too much about his species however he disregarded the tortoise and answered his question despite the slight hostile behavior he was feeling. “Self-Discovery.” The ninja simply answered, in an almost mockingly sort of way. The tortoise laughed at the answer, only leaving a slightly embarrassed expression across his face. “Hey what’s so funny!” demanding the shelled reptile answer his question, he only got a few more cackles before he spoke out again to try and speak over the tortoises voice. “I already been a year out on this journey, and you should know I become a lot stronger than I used to be.” He tried to win the animal over with his explanation, but only failed. “Such a pointless journey for someone who isn’t even in the right mind set,” continuing to laugh, the tortoise slowed down with its howling, to further explain its reasoning and point in the matter. “Strength is the last thing anyone should focus on in a journey for self-discovery.” “Tch, whatever.” Hiei retorted. |

Slightly irritated at the response the tortoise stomped it two front feet into the ground to levitate a couple of small stone into the air, which he then shot at the young man in front of his. Unable to dodge the incoming rocks thrown by the tortoise, Hiei was hit with the mini barrage of pebbles but stood his ground from the ineffective attack the animal launched at him. “Ouch, what the hell was that for?!” “Take what I say seriously boy!” the tortoise only answered back, dwarfing Hiei voice in comparison. With the young ninja silenced by the animal, the tortoise began to speak once again. “Now then as I was saying,” the animal cleared it throat. “Self-Discovery is all about who you are as a person.” |

As the tortoise went on with its explanation, Hiei only stared at the animal and nodded his head in a rather bored and mechanical manner. Though he was really wasn’t listing to the lecher, he did get what the tortoise was trying to say and understood the gist of it. The way we was going about this journey of self-discovery was in fact all wrong when he thought about it. He left the village because he was hurt emotionally by the two people he really cared about. He wasn’t doing this cause he wasn’t to; he was leaving because he didn’t want to face the harsh reality of rejection by someone he was in love with. When he thought about it in those terms he was getting at what the reptile was trying to say. |

“So, you’re saying I need to find out what kind of person I am to even make a dent in this journey.” He interrupted the tortoise though the animal didn’t really seem to care about the sudden outburst. When Hiei saw the tortoise nod as a reply he slightly looked down at the ground, while siting crisscross on the dirt. “If that’s the case then I already know what kind of person I am.” He voice was low, and he averted making eye contact with the reptile. “I’m a coward…I-I left my village to avoid getting hurt.” As Hiei explained his situation to the large reptile, the tortoise listened to the story in silence. |

Taking in the information he was being fed by the young man, the tortoise on sighed aloud as an initial response to the petty human issue. Making a response of his own, the tortoise shook his head in pity. “You humans never cease to amaze me; being hurt by the affection of a woman is what drives you to turn your back on your village and friends. And I suppose you were going to get stronger and return to the village to try to impress her.” Watching the slight nod from Hiei, the tortoise sighed once again. “Well, I can’t stop you from your stupid idiotic goals. However I can help you to further your strength.” |

Hearing the brown tortoise say that brought young man out of his slump, as he perked up to listen to what the reptile was offering him. “You can make me stronger?” Hiei inquired, while getting up off the ground. Watching as the large reptile gave an annoyed nod, the wandering shinobi scratched the back of his head in curiosity. He wasn’t sure how as tortoise was going to help him, nevertheless he was will to further himself so he could return to the village with his head held high. “So when do we begin?” He asked looking towards he soon to be mentor with a spark of excitement.
