BACKGROUND

It was a sunny day, the occasional puff of cloud wandering through a brilliant blue sky, carried on the back of an eastern wind. The sun was a blazing yellow orb in the summer sky. But Shinzui was sitting in the shade of a tree, out of the heat. A short head of unkempt grey-black hair framed a pair of dark eyes intently watching the contest before him. A little ways away in the light of the sun, two individuals fought, striking at one another with hands and feet. One of them was a man with sun-browned skin, his long black hair tied back in a ponytail. The other was a woman, her skin pale and soft like a cherry blossom, with long brown hair flying as she went on the offensive against her opponent.

He possessed the advantage of size, in both height and musculature, but she continued to avoid his counterattacks and use her agility to her advantage. They wore simple, matching attire; a short-sleeved shirt of mesh, along with black pants and grey sandals. Shinzui watched the contest before him, fascinated. He knew both of these people well; they were his mother and father. But he was not afraid by their fighting, for this had happened many times before, and there was always a smile on both of their faces. This was just a game.

Suddenly, his father lashed out with his right arm, seeking to finish the struggle with one desperate blow. But Shinzui already knew it was the end; he had seen this before. With a triumphant 'ha!', Mother leaped into the air, her right hand grabbing onto Father's right shoulder as she flipped over him. Shinzui leaned forward, watching with excitement, trying to follow exactly what happened next. Unfortunately, just like many times before, he could see little more than his father spinning around his mother in a flurry of motion before she tossed him aside with a flourish. Rolling into the trunk of a tree, Shinzui's father groaned as he tried to rise, only to stop as steel flashed past his face.

Shinzui giggled with amusement, staring at the shuriken embedded in the tree with childish awe. Mother chuckled, grinning mischievously at Father, the hand that had thrown the weapon still extended. "Dead," she said, winking playfully. Rubbing his shoulder, Father grinned back at her, chuckling as well. With the fight over, Shinzui struggled to his feet and ran awkwardly over to Mother, hugging onto her leg and laughing. Dusting himself off as he got up, Father came over to both of them and hugged them close.

"All right, time for us to go in for lunch," Mother said, smiling. The three of them turned and made their way towards their house. It wasn't very large, but it was home, with a wooden porch surrounding the outer walls. Their home sat in the shadow of a mountain valley, trees on all sides of the grove that their house sat within. On the far side was a garden where Mother grew most of the food that they ate, along with the well that they took their water from. It was a simple life, but it was a good one.

As Mother went to the kitchen, working on preparing lunch, Shinzui sat next to Father, who was reading a letter intently. Father and Mother received many letters, along with regular visitors, like Uncle Takamaru. Shinzui liked Uncle Takamaru; he was funny, always playing harmless little tricks to impress the young boy. However, Shinzui had been thinking about something for a little while now, and he looked up at his father with a smile. "Father," he said. Looking up from his letter, he smiled back down at Shinzui.

"What is it, Shinzui?" his father asked, curiously.

Shinzui grinned. "When do I get to start training, Father? Like you and Mother?" Father blinked, momentarily surprised.

"You're only three years old, Shinzui," he said, giving the boy a serious look. In the side of his vision, the boy could see that Mother had looked away from the food she was preparing, watching them both with a knowing smile.

"I'm almost four," he said, crossing his arms and meeting his father's eyes with his own, his lips twisted into a stubborn grimace. Mother's hand moved to cover her mouth; Shinzui knew she was laughing, and he blushed a little. Father didn't even try to hide his amusement, a rich laugh bellowing from his chest.

"So you are, Shinzui, so you are," Father agreed, still chuckling. And then Mother and Father gave each other a strange look, both of their eyes glowing. Shinzui knew that he didn't understand something between the two of them, and not knowing always irked him. Returning his attention to Shinzui, Father crossed his arms and nodded. "It is time for your training to begin." Shinzui laughed, jumping to his feet and throwing his arms around Father's neck.

"But after lunch!"

The rain never stopped in the Land of Rain. But right then, neither did the explosions, these days.

There was the constant rhythm of cannon fire, echoing from some pitched battle nearby, or fortress under siege. If the cannons were like the steady beat of a heavy drum, then the gunfire was a constant staccato of shots as line after line of riflemen fired their weapons, giving the previous squad time to reload their weapons. That had proven the most effective tactic for decades now; it allowed the common soldiery to lay down a constant barrage of bullets, which even shinobi and samurai would have difficulty avoiding. It was weapons like that, and tactics like that, which had allowed the armed forces of the world to finally contest the monopoly on warfare previously held by those who could wield chakra.

From his post atop a ruined tower of concrete and twisted steel, long ago shredded by cannons, Shinzui watched over the ruins around him with sadness. The soil of the Land of Rain was muddied with the blood of its people, buried under the wreckage left from the Sangaku Shogunate's initial assault. Their mission had been simple; shatter the proud will of the Land of Rain, which had defied all previous attempts by the great powers to bring it under their control. Shinzui smiled slightly, though there was little mirth behind it. Instead of crushing the Land of Rain's will to resist, they had only strengthened it; they accepted the assistance of the Sangaku's rivals, the Tendō Shogunate. And they had hired him.

"Sir, we're preparing to fall back." The short-wave radio in Shinzui's left ear crackled, attached to the forehead protector holding back a head of shaggy grey-black hair. He wore a short-sleeve shirt of tight mesh, along with black pants and grey sandals. Black half-gloves left his fingers free, a kunai held loosely in his right hand, while iron bracers protected his wrists. However, to the untrained eye he might look more like a boy playing at war than a trained combatant; he was still a child, still smooth-faced and a hand shorter than any full-grown man.

A flicker of movement in the corner of his eye, and Shinzui immediately began searching for the source of it. No breathing, no moving, just searching. "Sir?" The radio hissed in his ear once again, and Shinzui silently cursed; if he was dealing with a serious opponent, it could give away his position. A child or not, the platoon that Shinzui had been assigned to work with only doubted him until the first battle. Now each and every man trusted the boy with their life.

Another flicker of motion, and Shinzui's eyes locked on target. Suddenly, his entire posture loosened, and a relieved sigh escaped his lips. Reaching up, he turned on his mic. "Affirmative, Sergeant. Traps are in place, so be sure to take the detour we discussed. Once you reach your position, hold it, and I'll hit them from behind after the traps go off. I'll be the hammer, you the anvil." As he spoke, Shinzui watched as a young girl led a group of children through the wreckage. Though it was dirtied by mud and blood, she had beautiful silver hair, tied back to reveal delicate features. But there was a grim determination to the girl's face; just like this country, she was not going to surrender to destruction. She was going to fight.

Suddenly, Shinzui's eyes narrowed, a grimace forming on his young face. "Damn it." A squadron of Sangaku soldiers had suddenly entered into the clearing. The leader was pointing at the children with a katana, the cruel look on his face all that Shinzui needed to see to know what would happen next. One of the larger soldiers stepped forward, trying to light the fuse of a grenade in his hand. Shinzui was already moving before his hand made its way to his mic. "Sergeant. Change of plans. Children, and Sangaku soldiers. You're on your own for a bit. Sorry."

Having no more time to focus on that, Shinzui sprinted along the sides of buildings, a shuriken in hand. The grenade was lit, the soldier's hand raising to throw it. Shinzui grimaced; he was still too far. The girl had finally noticed her danger, screaming at the other children to run, not willing to abandon any of them. The grenade was flying, and Shinzui was still too far. He couldn't let this happen. He couldn't let those childrens' futures be destroyed. He couldn't let that girl be killed. They were running, but the soldier had timed his throw perfectly; it would explode right in the middle of them.

Shinzui was too far. But it didn't matter. He threw the shuriken. He knew where it needed to be, he knew exactly how to get it there. He didn't even know how he knew, but he knew. As the explosive fell into the centre of the group of children, a small blade whistled in between their heads, knocking the bomb aside. It exploded only a moment later, knocking the entire group off of their feet. Screams of pain filled the air.

Shinzui looked to see what had happened, and he saw... everything. Everything that his eyes passed over was etched perfectly in his mind; every particle of dust, every drop of rain. He could see the face of every child perfectly; some of them were drawn back in grimaces of pain, others were perfectly still, having found a semblance of peace. Shinzui's teeth gritted in anger. They were children; they had nothing to do with this battle between Shoguns. The girl's silver hair lay loose, covering her face as she lay still upon the ground. Shinzui could literally feel his heart beating furiously.

His eyes turned on the ones who had done this. Eleven of them. Ten of them wore the standard attire of the Sangaku armed forces, elite troops in comparison to the peasant conscripts that they typically threw into the meat grinder. The last one was different, however, wearing a breastplate over a traditional warrior's attire, a katana in hand. Their eyes met. He had a warrior's physique, and a proud, arrogant gaze. This was a Sangaku samurai, a warrior-aristocrat thoroughly convinced of his own superiority. Shinzui could see every single scar on him, each one a testament to a battle survived.

The samurai met Shinzui's feral grimace with an arrogant sneer. And then they were gone, both of them vanishing from where they had been only a second ago. And then the air rang with the clash of steel, as they collided in mid-air, Shinzui's kunai and the samurai's katana locked, just like their eyes; the samurai's eyes were dark pools of single-minded hatred, and in them Shinzui could see his own, a single comma-like mark orbiting around each of his pupils inside of red irises. He had awakened his Sharingan...

Faintly, Shinzui could hear the screams of the dying in the background, the sounds of exploding gunpowder filling the air. A garrison of Tendō soldiers, less than fifty in all, huddled inside a muddy trench, half-filled with rainwater from the endless weeping of the sky, mixing with the blood of the dead and the dying covering the battlefield. The pass that they had been holding was one of the only routes into the Land of Rain that could transport large numbers of troops and equipment from Sangaku territory. Until a few days ago, five hundred men had held the pass, but a sudden offensive had left the garrison in shambles; they wouldn't last another day.

That was why Shinzui was here.

Half a mile north, the Sangaku had established a staging area for the offensive, along with an artillery position to support the attack. Shinzui's mission was simple; break the Sangaku offensive, and keep their forces in disarray until reinforcements arrived. And to do it, he had four shinobi, including himself. Not an enviable situation, and yet Shinzui wore a slight smirk on his face; a part of him relished the challenge, even as he knew that there were bigger matters at hand.

"We're getting close." Looking back, Shinzui saw Nara Michiko looking at him curiously. Behind, Akimichi Kenta and Yamanaka Osamu followed, determined faces also watching him expectantly. While the task before him was a formidable one, he had been given the pick of the finest soldiers in the Hi no Guntai for his team. The Ino-Shika-Chō Formation was a legend almost as old as his Sharingan among shinobi, and this trio had illustrious military records separately as well as together; before being assigned to Shinzui's command for this mission, they had been serving with the 3rd Ranger Company.

"All right then, remember the plan," Shinzui said. "You three move into position to hit their artillery battery once I've started the distraction." Shinzui's gaze turned first to Michiko. "You're in command, in the event that a call needs to be made." She nodded, no change in her deadpan expression. "Osamu, try and identify key targets by their chakra signatures, and keep us all in contact with your Shindenshin no Jutsu." He nodded, spiky blond hair waving in the wind as they ran. "And Kenta, hold back on your techniques until I have the enemy committed on the front line; they attract attention."

"Understood, Shinzui," Kenta said. Without another word, Michiko altered her course eastwards, followed by Kenta and Osamu. They quickly disappeared from sight, while Shinzui held his collision course with the Sangaku front line. The smirk on Shinzui's face widened, his Sharingan gazing intently towards the imminent battle. The board was set; the pieces were moving; it was time for the game to begin...

-

Gunfire filled the air as a streak of darkness left from the trees, easily darting between the barbed wire and caltrops scattered across the field. The pass had shrunk to less than a mile in width, and it was at the narrowest point that the enemy had dug in; the Sangaku soldiers fired from gaps in a raised embankment of earth and rock, including several light cannons loaded with grapeshot. Shinzui laughed as rolled behind a boulder to escape the withering hail of fire for a moment. It was an impressive, single-minded defence.

Leaping into the air, the young shinobi let loose a volley of shuriken, immediately followed by half a dozen painful cries. Shinzui could see the agony in the faces of each man he had killed. However, whatever shock his attack had created quickly wore off, and an inescapable wall of bullets and shrapnel flew from the barrels of musket and cannon. A wicked grin was visible on Shinzui's face for an instant before being consumed by a cloud of dust and smoke as the enemy attack hit.

Only the sound of the wind could be heard as a frightened hush descended over the battlefield; as the dirt and debris was cleared by the breeze, no trace of a body could be seen where they had seen their weapons hit the boy, not even a speck of blood. Silence was followed by frightened whispers from the ranks of the conscripted auxiliaries that made up a large part of the Sangaku So-Gun.

Suddenly, half of the front line literally exploded around them, as each of the gun positions were suddenly consumed by fire. Each explosion was accompanied by the screams of the injured, and any remaining discipline was shattered by the sheer chaos of the situation. However, one man stood entirely still as everyone else milled around, consumed with panic and confusion. An eerie grin marked an unusually-plain face, before suddenly the strange soldier disappeared in a puff of smoke, replaced by Shinzui, half his size but with the same grin on his face.

He had used a shadow clone to make his approach across the battlefield, transformed and mixed with the other shuriken that the bunshin had thrown before its demise. During the confusion, it had been easy to transform again into a Sangaku soldier, and quickly plant explosive tags at each cannon emplacement. And just like that, the front line had been thrown into chaos. All right, time for you three to strike, Shinzui thought, knowing that Osamu would transmit his mission to the rest of his team. Enemy reinforcements would move in to clean up the mess that Shinzui had made, which would leave their artillery positions open to assault. Shinzui simply needed to keep them busy until his team could move up behind and hit them from behind again, scattering them to the wind. But step one was a success.

Shinzui, I've identified half a dozen individuals with notable chakra levels. Most likely the samurai and shinobi officers. Shinzui nodded as one hand slipped inside of the pouch belted at his waist, pulling out a knife-like weapon with an additional hooked blade jutting out, attached to a length of black silk rope. In one fluid motion, Shinzui spun and parried a sword swinging for the back of his head, leaping forward and driving his knee into his assailant's chest. Driving his attacker to the ground with his weight, Shinzui buried his blade in the man's throat. With barely a second glance, he pulled his weapon out of the wound, blood spraying all over his hand before he darted away.

I need to know where each of the priority targets is, Osamu, Shinzui thought as he hid from a passing platoon of soldiers, rushing towards the nightmare that he had made of their forward position. As the last of the Sangaku troops passed, Shinzui formed the Tiger hand seal, gathering fire chakra inside of his chest. "Katon! Gōryūka no Jutsu!" Exhaling his flaming chakra, Shinzui propelled an inferno, shaped like the head of an enormous dragon, behind the soldiers. The first few soldiers that turned to look screamed as they saw the blaze descending upon them, alerting their comrades to the danger before being incinerated. As the rest turned, the chorus of screams multiplied as the fire overtook them.

I'm working on it, but things are starting to get pretty crazy back here, Osamu informed Shinzui psychically. A few men had managed to dive to the side, avoiding Shinzui's technique, but little remained of most of those who had been caught in the flames. The young Uchiha didn't waste one second before moving in to finish what he had started; his blade was buried in one man's eye before the others even knew what was happening. With a single yank on the silk cord attached to the weapon, Shinzui returned his blade to his hand and used it to stab a second soldier, who stared with utter disbelief at the child who had brought such ruin upon them all.

In the background, Shinzui could hear the sounds of battle erupting at the other end of the encampment, explosions filling the air once more as his teammates moved on the artillery. Suddenly, the sound of Osamu's voice echoed through Shinzui's mind: Behind you! Rolling to the side blindly, Shinzui could hear the whistle of a blade passing through the air where his neck had been only a moment ago. His opponent was good, to be able to get the drop on him like that; Shinzui didn't have time to deal with the rest of the soldiers here. It was time to fall back.

With barely a moment to think, Shinzui rolled backwards, once again managing to avoid his attacker by a hairsbreadth. He was masked and cloaked in black, both hands wrapped around the hilt of a well-made katana, plated vambraces guarding his wrists. With his Sharingan on him, Shinzui could see that his foe was older than himself, but still less than twenty. His eyes were hard, focused on Shinzui with a cold determination to see him dead. As the young man lunged at Shinzui with the tip of his blade, the young Uchiha smiled, admiring his opponent's swordsmanship. He was good.

Shinzui turned, knowing that his enemy would be right behind him as he sprinted away. He had to get away from the reinforcements that would be coming soon. Looking back for a second, Shinzui confirmed that his enemy was less than ten feet behind him. With a quick glance, he determined that this was an adequate place to resolve this confrontation. With a spinning leap, Shinzui sent a handful of shuriken flying towards the enemy swordsman, sliding to a stop as he watched each of his shuriken get deflected by the katana, the enemy continuing to charge forward. Shinzui smiled, expecting as much. Forming the Tiger seal, Shinzui exhaled a cloud of hot ash, suddenly enveloping his enemy in a smokescreen.

A pained exclamation from inside the haze brought a smile to Shinzui's lips; getting hit in the face with the hot ash of that technique would be quite painful, and possibly blinding. But, more importantly, the noise had provided Shinzui with a means to locate the enemy inside of the smokescreen. Whipping his arm forward, he cast his weapon into the ash cloud, the black silk cord sliding between his fingers. Now, Shinzui thought, grabbing onto the rope. The line went tight, immediately followed by a startled cry, and then a sharper cry of pain. Got you, Shinzui though, a triumphant smirk on his face.

As the cloud of ash began to disperse, settled by the constant rainfall, Shinzui grabbed onto the black cord with both hands and tugged, resulting in another pained cry that was quickly followed by the thud of a body hitting the ground. With the ash settling, Shinzui could now see his enemy once more; the cord attached to the weapon he had thrown was wrapped around one of the young man's legs, the hooked blade on the side buried in his ankle. He stared at Shinzui, and though most of his face was hidden by the mask, the boy could see the hatred in his enemy's eyes, along with the pain and, hidden underneath it all, the fear.

One of the young man's hands still held onto the katana, trembling with shock from the wound. But in the other, he held several shuriken, and with a grunt he threw them at Shinzui. The young Uchiha deflected them with the bracers on his wrist, charging straight through the attack, a kunai appearing in his free left hand. His agony showing through the mask, the enemy ninja raised his katana to counter Shinzui's attack. As Shinzui lunged in, though, he yanked hard with his right hand, tugged on the hooked blade lodged in his enemy's ankle. The young man screamed, his counterattack thrown off, his eyes closed with pain. Easily dodging the katana, Shinzui drove his kunai into his foe's heart.

He watched as his mysterious attacker stiffened, a pained gurgle issuing from his throat. Slowly, his eyes went glassy, the pain and confusion disappearing, replaced by oblivion. Shinzui felt his body go limp, the last breath slipping from his lungs and out past his lips. Slowly, Shinzui exhaled through his nostrils, closing his eyes and pulling his kunai out of the young man's chest. Opening his eyes, he uncoiled the black silk cord from his defeated enemy's ankle, dislodging his weapon from the flesh of his calf. Shinzui wiped the blood off on the young man's cloak, before rising and turning his gaze back towards the camp. One down, too many to go.

PERSONALITY

Shinzui has a warrior's spirit, and a warrior's pride. He takes great enjoyment in battle, often thinking of it more like a game than a matter of life and death. Shinzui takes great pride in his abilities, and can be arrogant at times; he enjoys intimidating his enemies, and humiliating overconfident opponents. However, he does not let his ego get ahead of him, acknowledging an opponent that proves themselves a challenge and taking them seriously from then on. While Shinzui can get caught up in battle, he does not let it distract him from protecting his allies, or from the end goal.

While Shinzui can be a vicious warrior on the battlefield, he also possesses deep reservoirs of emotion and empathy. He doesn't usually have much to say, but he always has a reassuring smile to offer, along with a level head and an open mind. Shinzui possesses a fierce loyalty to those close to him, willing to offer his life in an instant for a friend or family. Even beyond this, he is a committed humanitarian, devoted to bettering the world for shinobi, samurai, and common people the world over.

ABILITIES

Uchiha Shinzui is widely known as a shinobi of the highest calibre. A child prodigy, Shinzui fought in the War of Bleeding Rain at the age of twelve, selling his services to the Land of Rain as a Mercenary Ninja. It was during that conflict that Shinzui awakened his Sharingan. Since then, he has also earned a reputation as a peerless bodyguard, and, sometimes, a deadly assassin.

Ninjutsu

Shinzui is proficient with an assortment of ninja techniques, many of high-calibre. Like most of the Uchiha clan, he possesses an affinity for Fire chakra; his potent array of Katon techniques are what have earned him the name "Dragon of the Uchiha". In addition to this, Shinzui has learned how to mould wind chakra, and can utilize a gunbai (war fan) to perform Wind techniques; this fan is typically stored in a scroll on his person.

Shinzui is also skilled in the use of shurikenjutsu, one of the skills learned from his mother. In addition to the basic Manipulated Shuriken technique, utilizing ninja wire to guide a single shuriken, Shinzui can control up to five such shuriken with the assistance of his Sharingan. One of his favourite weapons is a kunai attached to a length of chain, allowing him to guide the attacks of the kunai or attack his enemies with the other end of the chain. These techniques can be used to capture targets alive, guide extremely precise ranged attacks, or serve as a setup for Katon techniques.

Shinzui is also proficient with the Shadow Clone technique, though his average chakra reserves limit his use of the technique to a few bunshin. However, he uses them to their maximum effect; Shinzui will almost always feel out a serious opponent with shadow clones, allowing him to analyze their strategy from afar as well as receive the close-up experience of the bunshin. In addition, Shinzui is highly skilled in using his shadow clones in order to perform complex strategies or collaboration techniques, designed to take full advantage of any perceived weaknesses.

Shinzui has a summoning contract with the snakes of Ryūchi Cave, allowing him to summon them in battle. Shinzui will use techniques like Hidden Shadow Snake Hands in order to supplement his taijutsu, or to maneuver in midair. His personal summon is a gargantuan black cobra named Shida; the two of them have a reasonably amicable relationship, though the snake is far more heartless than his summoner. In addition to snakes, Shinzui is capable of using the Summoning: Rashomon jutsu, allowing him to summon an enormous iron gate capable of blocking all but the strongest of attacks. The diversity of Shinzui's jutsu is as deadly as their strength.

Taijutsu

Capable in all forms of ninja combat, Shinzui is proficient in the use of taijutsu, if not as skilled as he is with ninjutsu or genjutsu. While his physical strength and endurance are only average, Shinzui uses his agility and intellect to turn his opponents' strength against them whenever possible, outmaneuvering them until they provide him with an opportunity to strike.

Genjutsu

Shinzui is highly skilled in both using and countering genjutsu, supplemented by his skill with the Sharingan. Shinzui can see through most genjutsu easily using his kekkei genkai, and can even turn some techniques back on an unwary caster. Among the Uchiha Clan, talent with Sharingan genjutsu is an important measure of strength, and Shinzui is acknowledged for his skill by the entire clan. With a moment of eye contact, Shinzui can trap an opponent in an illusion, allowing him to put them to sleep or interrogate them at his leisure. Shinzui is even capable of hypnotizing weak-willed individuals, guiding their actions and manipulating their memories temporarily.

Sharingan

As the current head of the Uchiha Clan, Shinzui is acknowledged by the entire clan as a true inheritor of the power of the Sharingan; this is all the more remarkable given his loss of his right eye a decade ago. His remaining Sharingan is fully developed, with three tomoe surrounding the pupil of his eye. Shinzui's skill with his Sharingan makes his use of it almost effortless.

Shinzui's Sharingan gives him incredible powers of insight. With it, he perceives and memorizes everything that happens within his field of vision. He is also capable of seeing chakra with it. The Sharingan also affords Shinzui the ability to cast powerful genjutsu on his opponents merely through eye contact, making close combat a difficult prospect, and one on one combat highly dangerous.

By combining the Sharingan's ability to perfectly memorize anything that it sees with the ability to perceive chakra, Shinzui can copy any ninjutsu, genjutsu, or taijutsu technique that he sees, so long as he possesses the capabilities required to replicate it. Often, by observing minute details in his opponent's movements, hand seals, or chakra, Shinzui is even capable of predicting what they will do before they even begin doing it.

Intelligence

Shinzui is a highly intelligent, and highly experienced, shinobi. He has traveled much of the world completing various missions, and fought against a variety of opponents in a variety of conditions. He is a highly strategic fighter, analyzing his opponents' fighting styles and finding their weakness so that he can exploit it. Shinzui also knows how to use his wide assortment of abilities to maximum effect in combination.

With his avid curiosity and keen intellect, Shinzui has mastered a variety of assorted skills utilized by shinobi. In his youth, he learned how to trace an opponent by sound alone, allowing him to fight even when he is blinded. He is a skilled tracker, able to notice the slightest trace of passage with the help of his Sharingan. Shinzui possesses a working knowledge of human anatomy, allowing him to target vulnerable spots like organs or joints.

In addition to battle tactics, Shinzui is an avid student of history, ethics, psychology, and other subjects. He possesses contacts and subordinates in most parts of the world, regularly providing him with local news, or even government secrets occasionally. While he works as a Mercenary Ninja, Shinzui also influences world events independently, either personally or through his subordinates. His motives, and associates outside of the Uchiha Clan, are largely unknown to the wider world.

It can be used as a weapon on its own, or as a medium through which Shinzui can performed Wind Release techniques. The weapon is inscribed with a summoning contract, allowing him to summon it to him anywhere, and also can connect with the weighted-end of the chain on his Dragon Tail, to use in combination.
