With the discovery of the eastern continent and the surprise it held, Pern has been shaken. Half the engineered clutch has hatched revealing mutations. Most disturbing of all, are the disappearances of entire Weyrs; but does it have any connection?

Currently it is the End of Summer. The weather is hot and stormy.

The end of summer meant many things; storms, weather becoming interchangeable between hot and ever cooling, and most of all it meant many dragons spending more and more time near the Falls. The usual roosts and nesting spots were good as well, but the darkness of the caves were dreary, and the other ledges were in no way a good defense from the heat of the day. Instead many of the dragons, young and old alike, took to the lake that pooled in place of the normal Weyr Bowl. Some of their riders lingered to bathe them or converse, and over all it was an otherwise peaceful afternoon.

Thread had not fallen for a few days, though it was due again soon, and the Wings from some of the closer Weyrs that were left had been helping out to cover the smaller Eastern Continent. With meetings like those that left the Silver Falls riders able to talk with others from around Pern, it was to be expected that rumors would start flying. The new colors were still only found in the engineered clutch, and speculation was that the researchers of old had specifically made them to tweak the original design. Already there were findings from the dragonets, but it was all theory until they grew more and more things started to show up.

There was another rumor though circling, one that had not become reality yet in Silver Falls. For whatever reason more and more dragons were beginning to dislike firelizards. It was normal for a Queen to chase them away from her clutch, and it was not uncommon for dragons to become agitated by the creatures, but never had they tried to kill them before. No, many of those stories were discounted by the riders of Silver Falls who as yet had not seen such action between their pets and bondmates....until now.

The blue was a wild, and perhaps later people would just brush it off as it being an unknown firelizard, but he was there nonetheless. The firelizards had been chittering together in a corner of the main cavern, keeping out of the way for the most part, though some were quietly out with their riders, but this little blue flew in from the nearby trees and went to investigate one of the greens nearby. She had never been known to dislike the little cousins before, and in fact her own rider had a few, but still there she was eying it with swirling red lenses. Growling low, she got up from her spot laying in the cool waters, her tail flicking a splash of water onto an older blue dragon nearby.

He snapped his teeth together as he looked at the blue, the firelizard giving a little cough as it backed up and away. It wasn't fast enough, and the green's rider who had by now been alerted to the events came into the picture too late. The green dragoness swiped at the flit, the tiny blue screeching in distress as the blue dragon that had been woken nearby by the green reached out and snapped in its direction again. Terror-striken, the blue flit popped into the safety of between...never to return again.

Blinking and stopped in their tracks, the two riders could only stare open mouthed at their dragons as they tried to explain they were only protecting themselves. It didn't make sense though, what could a firelizard do to two fully grown dragons? The beasts could not reply with an answer, they did not know.
