• Deity essay - How would you explain Universal Deity and Personal Deity, to a
non-Pagan?

The best way to describe a Universal Deity to a non-pagan is that instead of many different Gods and Goddesses, you have one main Deity or the “One God” then that One Deity or God can be broken down into many, many different Gods and Goddesses, called your personal Deity, a personal Deity is one that you connect to at the core of themselves. Every religion has their belief of God /Goddess. Each religions Universal Deity is the same, the only difference is in personal deity such as Jesus, Allah, Buddha, and for the Wiccan and pagan community, the Universal deity is thought of as energy, and the personal deity is described in mythology as the individual gods of a cultures pantheon (group of Gods). Greek, Roman, Celtic, Germanic, and hundreds more that could be listed, have individual personal gods that relate to things like, hearth, home, animals, childbirth, cooking, blessings, and everyday issues people deal with. A perfect example of this is Like a Diamond, a diamond has many "sides" or "facets" the diamond as a whole is universal deity, and each side of the “facet” is a personal deity relating to an individual person. Every religion has their own belief system of who they believe is the One God or God and Goddess might be, but in reality they are all the same. Every nation has their opinion and so that nation is also broken up into millions of different types of people so no one person will believe in the same thing you may believe in.

I once read a story called; All Gods are one God and it was amazing it starts with a man who is blaming his bad day on the new girl because she a Pagan and he is a Christian man who believes being a witch goes against the Lord or “his God”, and believing that her Pentagram is the Satanic symbol. He is having a bad day because he keeps getting in trouble for preaching at this new woman Mary Ann about her “Satanic” symbols. Well that night he goes home and asks his God to give him guidance, well they always say be careful what you ask for, His God comes to him and ask him is he sure he wants to be shown the truth and the man wants to know so he says yes. Their journey starts at the Church for Catholics, then God begins to explain to him how he loves their masses and that he enjoys it because not only do they help others like the sick and poor , they also help themselves, as the story goes on they stop and the man notices that God has changed his appearance to greet the man that they saw that had passed away in the funeral parlor and that God changed into a different God that the other person would identify with, then they come to a mountain top with a painted warrior and God changes again, except this time into a eagle, which confused the guy, and this goes on in the story many, many times till they come to a forest clearing and he knows the place is renowned for people that devil worshiping, and believes he sees Mary Ann from the office, but he isn’t sure, And he saw that God walked among them now but not as a man but as the God made three turns around the circle he changed from “a young girl, bouncing with energy, then a woman of middle years, with a tender smile for all Her children, and finally, an old woman, body bent, but holding Her head up with pride” And then he does see Mary Ann and she is thanking The Goddess for joining them at their rite. As they are walking God takes him to heaven and they pass a man or “Angel” that is radiant and the man asks who was that And god says Lucifer “ the man stutters knowing that Lucifer is the ultimate evil” and The God carrying him around explained that if it were true that he were the ultimate evil and stood up against God and was cast out do you think I would allow him to be here, And that the bible is a great book but not for a guideline because it was written by man. So the man has learned that His God is just one he identifies with but in reality his “God” is many different Gods. God then tells him, you have asked for me to show you and now you have seen; only you can take from this experience. When the man goes to work the next day he sees Mary Ann again and begins to approach her and notices her cringe and try to find an escape but he says. “I think I owe you a bit of an apology, I've been a bit narrow minded of late, and I really had no right to subject you to what I did. It's not up to me to say how you find your path to your spirit, and I was wrong to think that was so” Of course this shocks the young girl especially when he says God bless and blessed be.

This is how I would go about describing what a Universal Deity as the “One main God” and a Personal Deity as many different forms of the same deity to a non- pagan. And I believe that there is never a reason to ever judge ones Belief and with whom they believe because in reality they are going against their own God without them knowing it and I think that It is extremely important for other religions to respect one another because you don’t have any right to judge. The most important rule runs through any religion for Christians it’s the Golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, for pagans its And it harm none, do what ye will. So treat others with respect and you will receive it as well.
