Why does Shirley hate Stan so much?

Why? It seems unfair to bully an clearly physically ill old man. He's manipulative but not half as bad as Shirley, he should tell Mick that his sister tried to kill him after how she's treated poor Stan.

I'd say Shirley is the way she is because of Stan, something went on when she was younger, possibly involving their mum and Mick.

I'm still confused by this storyline. Is it that Shirley blamed Mick for their mother's post natal depression (or whatever it was called back then) and therefore tried to drown him or is it the case that Mick is actually Shirley's son?

I think it's because Mick is Shirley's son. Shirley's timeline is all a bit messed up.

1970's: Had her first son Mick at the age of 13 and tried to drown him before leaving.
1980's: Had Jimbo, Dean and Carly. Was with Kevin Wicks at the time of all these births but only Jimbo is his child. She runs off leaving Kevin to bring up the kids on his own.
1990's: Moves in with her 'brother' and his wife Linda, they are all living in Linda's Mum's pub. For whatever reason Shirley burns the pub down and leaves.
2000's: Arrives in Walford seeking Carly and Dean. Carly rejects her as Shirley didn't go to Jimbo's funeral in the late 90's.
2010's: Nearly marries Phil Mitchell, her daughter Carly returns in 2012 before leaving again. Her whole family come to the square en masse......

What a messed up character Shirley is. Not only did she try to kill her son she also burned his pub down! :OMG:
