Meditation is a staple for anyone active in the paranormal or spirit-keeping. But it's also something many of us struggle with. So here are some tips to help get things going. Making time - If finding time in a busy schedule is the problem, there is a simple solution. Meditate at bed-time. I know many are probably cringing thinking "are you nuts?? you'll fall asleep!" But if bedtime is the only time you have, what do you really have to lose? Just get yourself ready for bed as you normally do, then clear your mind the best you can. If you have trouble clearing your mind, simply acknowledge any thoughts and promise yourself to address them later. Sometimes, by simply acknowledging our thoughts and reminding our subconscious that we cannot DO anything about them at the present time but will later is enough to push those aside. Focus on relaxing and clearing your mind of conscious thought (but don't ignore random things as they may be messages from spirits). If relaxing is a problem, you might try a simple relaxation technique to relax your body. There are more detailed instructions easily found by a simple internet search...but basically, you start from the top of your head and work your way to your toes tensing and relaxing each part of your body along the way. The idea is to flex each part to feel it and then relax the muscles so that you can feel it release. Don't forget facial, neck, back, stomach or foot muscles as these are often tense in tensed people. Once you're completely relaxed and have cleared your mind, just let thoughts flow as they may. Don't TRY to keep your mind clear as this may unintentionally block telepathic messages. Just relax and let it flow. Note any words, thoughts or images for later but just let it flow. Traditional Method (sort of) for those who have time to sit - If you have time to just sit and meditate, great! There are obviously basic instructions elsewhere on the internet for this as well as numerous books. If you have access to these, then great! I like to recommend Robert Bruce as he has many useful exercises for many uses. But the bare basics of meditation are finding a comfortable position (usually sitting in a comfy chair), clearing your mind of conscious thought (but don't force a clear mind) and letting things flow as they will. One of the exercises you can use to develop focus in meditation and visualization is to visualize a ball. Imagine a red rubber ball...see the color, feel the texture...and HOLD that image in your senses...all of your senses...not just visual. Another is to start with a red rubber ball and move to a softball/baseball...then to a wiffle ball...then football...then basketball...using all of your senses each time the ball changes. You might find a better progression of balls for this but the point of the exercise is to both develop your focus and involve all of your senses. Whatever method of meditation you use, regardless of whether you have time for strengthening exercises...the important thing is RELAXATION. Don't force anything. You have to LET GO and let it flow. Once you do, you will be amazed at what comes through.

Something else I forgot to add is that you want to make sure there won't be any distractions while you meditate. Try to pick a time when you won't be disturbed and will have quiet. Make sure you turn off any phones or other devices that may interrupt you. Also the ball exercises are very good for helping develop your ability to visualize, which is also very helpful to magical practices. |

I have trouble relaxing myself. That's why I prefer meditating at bed time. There is always the risk of falling asleep, but that's when I get the clearest images and messages from my spirits. Sometimes the messages or images can be unpleasant, but if you work with DA, it's something you have to get used to. ![]() I think the biggest mistake people make when first learning to meditate for spirit communication is trying too hard to keep their mind clear. It's important to clear your mind of your own thoughts, but if you try to hard you can inadvertently block out your spirit companions in the process. So the best way is to simply relax and if a thought comes to mind that you know is your own...such as things that need to be done...just acknowledge it and tell yourself that you can't do anything about it right now but will address it later (or tomorrow). This gives your subconscious the instruction that now is not the time for it. This will help to keep your mind clear of your own thoughts but still open to what you're trying to see/hear. |
